Hayward, Wisconsin
Classic Northwoods Log Cabin....read the reviews...they tell the whole story. I built this cabin myself 31 years ago. We live in Hayward and this cabin was built as a family retreat...a quick quiet and close getaway.
We have been hosts on VRBO since 2004...we were the 5th home in Hayward to sign up. We have had great guests...it has been nice to share our special place.
The Cabin site is extremely private in a very wild and scenic setting on the famous Chippewa Flowage...only 18 miles from Hayward. The 'Flowage is a 17,000 acre lake with hundreds of islands and 200 miles of 95% undeveloped lakeshore. It is one of the more famous wilderness lakes in Northern Wisconsin and the Hayward Lakes Region. The home makes a wonderful four season retreat...very private...with spectacular and private water views!!
The Adirondack style log cottage sits on a large 60 acre parcel with an abundance of lake frontage in a very private wooded setting. The views from the home are 100% natural...nothing but trees and undeveloped shoreline!!! The large screen porch has great views to the lake making evening dinners seem in the outdoors... the lake side fire pit and chairs create a great place for reflection or marsh mallow roasts...the 3/4 mile private wooded trail is lined with huge pines and is perfect for quiet walks... the kitchen-great room is decorated in a classic northwoods decor with many handmade rustic furniture pieces. (The cabin and much of the rustic furniture was built by the owner.) The second floor loft-bedroom has three beds...two doubles and a queen... it is very spacious and is lined with windows creating beautiful views to the lake. Wood floors, rustic furniture and an abundance of windows add to the Northwoods feel of this unique property. Please note (the walking trail is not open 9-1 to 12-1).
The home is located on the North East corner of the very famous and wild Chippewa Flowage. Paddling or boating adventures up the river are close and easy and a kayak around the bay is even easier. This section of the lake is truely a wilderness area...make a left off the dock and it is miles to the next home. All 17,000 acres of the Chippewa Flowage can be your boating playground!!
With the famous resort town of Hayward just 18 miles away you can choose from a variety of world class attractions, restaurants and shops. If you are looking to relax in private with your loved ones this is a place that exudes family time. Whether it is canoeing up the nearby river, boating out the lake to the ice cream shop, a boat ride to one of 10 lake resorts for a cheese burger, catching some fresh fish for dinner, walking on the private woods trail, biking on the forest roads or reading on the screen porch, you will be able to relax undisturbed in this unique northwoods retreat.
Winter is a very special time here...a true winter wonderland. The snow is a pristine white...the solitude at a level that forces you to unwind. Whether it is a snow shoe down the shore of the lake to the river...a slow cross country tour down the private woods trail or a candle lit dinner in front of the fire...winter is a great get away time. Try the winter...you will be glad you did!!!

Truly relaxing. Beautiful view, nice cabin.
Nice cabin with a great rustic feel and access to water for great fishing. The perfect Northwoods.
We enjoyed our long Labor Day retreat at Fred & Sue's cabin. The north woods cabin is beautiful and reflects that it was built with love and skill by the owners. It's a true get away!
Great little Cabin in the middle of the Woods. If you are looking for some peace and relaxation, this is the place. We loved the screened porch because the Mosquitoes were really bad when we got there !!! Our 2 dogs were in heaven, seeing & barking at all the different Wildlife. Fred is a great and generous Host, who will help you with all of your needs & questions. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you for sharing your great cabin. Mark & Chris and the 2 dogs
Fred was a wonderful host. Nothing but good things about this cabin off the beaten path. View was great, thanks for sharing your awesome place!
Cabin was exactly what we were looking for. Great solitude and a breathtaking view from the cabin & dock. Our only regret was not asking the owners for some fishing spots because we didn't catch much. Our fault! Thanks Fred & Sue. Tried to leave the cabin as clean as we found it, hope we didn't let you down! We will be back but next time with a fishing guide.
Fantastic!
The place was clean, and well taken care perfect rustic cabin feel. Enjoyed the stay. Loved the view of the lake and isolation of the place!
This was a winter retreat for our 26th anniversary with our 2 dogs. It was really a beautiful experience. The cabin is perfect for small groups ( large room with 3 large beds. The screened in porch and back porch were amazing and I can imagine how beautiful it is in summer and fall. We got snowshoes which was perfect. The flowage is lowered in winter so the side of banks are safe to snowshoe or cross country ski on ( we did both) Each night we marched out to a certain spot where a larger root/ driftwood was exposed with the lowering of the water. It was a great bench to watch the sunset. Deer would come out everywhere… the white terrain was magic to our soul. Our dogs were in heaven. Thank you for sharing your craft and lil slice of magic!!!
We stayed here for a XC ski weekend. Cabin was well appointed, very clean, and cozy. The woodstove was a welcome after a day of skiing!
My husband, dog an I spent New Years at this picturesque cabin. It’s like what is in the pictures but better. Practically everything in this place is bespoke. It’s got all the amenities you’ll need for a north woods getaway. The space makes you want to cozy up and relax around the fire. Truly a special place. A note about bringing a pet: no dogs allowed on furniture or beds. If you have a dog who you know won’t follow that rule, be prepared to pack a lot of covers and blankets. Fred was very responsive to all my questions, especially impressive during the busy holiday season. A suggestion to Fred would be to please confirm with the renter that it’s okay to bring a large dog before the window to get a full refund closes. I was a little panicked when I got the check in email asking to confirm that we were bringing a dog 3 days before the trip. It all worked out in the end, but I think would be helpful to reduce unnecessary stress for the renter. If you’re on the fence about booking this cabin, I’m telling you… book it. You won’t regret it. My husband and I are already talking about coming back next year.
Very simple place. Owner built the cabin and much of the furniture. Beautiful setting, easy access to trails, nature and walking out the door. Can’t count on WiFi, but that turned out to make for a better experience.
We enjoyed relaxing by the lake, having a fire, reading in the hammock on the porch, and dinner on the porch. It was a little bit creepy sleeping at night as our dogs woke us up quite a bit as they must have heard things. I snuck down stairs to turn the light on quick and found rodents scurrying across the floor and counters. So the dogs knew they were there and letting us know there were rodents in the house. I advise to keep food in fridge and cooler to keep the rodents and ants out. Other than that, it was a pleasant place to stay and a great location on the flowage. Perfect weather the weekend we went.
A beautiful and peaceful place to stay. Lots of solitude and quiet. Very private.
