Sugar Bear cabin was a beautiful cabin, in a quiet area of the woods located very near Pigeon Forge. We went outside of busy season, so the cabins nearby were not occupied. We came with myself, my husband, our 2 year old, and my inlaws. We had one small issue with a sink backing up on our first days, and the Bear Tootin was very prompt in sending someone out to clear it. The ONLY issue we had on our trip was the actual location of the cabin. It is right at the edge of a small cliff on one full side, not even a step off the front porch, which is not mentioned in the listing. With a curious 2 year old, we were not able to explore the area the way we would have liked safely, without worrying he'd go off the edge. As well as the road leading up to the cabins was not in the greatest of shape, which is in no way the cabin owners fault, just merely pointing it out. All in all, this was a very fun and memorable trip, and we would love to stay again, once my son is a bit older and will listen to not go by the edge of the cliff.
Overall we enjoyed our stay. The cabin was relatively clean. The living areas were fairly well maintained. That having been said, it does need a thorough deep cleaning. Some of the carpeting was dirty, dead bugs in the light fixtures, and a considerable amount of dust on some fixtures and decor when I arrived. Luckily, I know better than to just hope everything will be ok and had gotten there ahead of our party to take care of any issues before they arrived. My 90 yr old grandmother wanted to take one last trip to Pigeon Forge, so I wanted it to be as perfect as possible. She had a great time as did the rest of the group, and overall I don't have any major issue. I understand it is hard to do extensive cleaning between bookings, but maybe once a month try to take a day to do a good hard cleaning. And if someone could replace the valve on the left hand mixer on the upstairs walk-in shower. I had read on a previous review months ago that it dripped constantly, but assumed it would have been fixed prior to our visit; I was mistaken.
Pros Location is 5 mins from Pigeon Forge Pacman and other video games Clean rooms Nice Kitchen table Cons Steep driveway Mattresses are awful - they are like a hammock Toiletry supplies could have been more generous Fire pit could have been done better Shower heads were dirty
The stay was not that bad. The road up was terrible. Car scraped a good amount of times. One main problem we had was with the trash. The trash can we had would not lock. We encounter a bear ravaging through the trash because of this. They also wanted to charge for trash pickup in the middle of the week. Overall not a bad place but some concerning problems especially with the bear.
We enjoyed our secluded cabin stay
Nice cabin the only thing I had issues with was the dishwasher and the pots and pans. Pans were dirty and the dishwasher was extremely dirty. Under the sink was leaking and there was foul smelling water in a bowl.
Renting process good. I would have liked to use the fireplace it hot really cool at night. Upstairs shower did not rain well, water puddled kind of felt unclean.
Cook stove only had two range tops that worked. One of those two was warp until hard to use. No ice maker in fridge or means to make ice. Outside grill look like something found in a state park. Deck off upstairs was molded so bad we would not walk on. Property access not kept by any means. However, ,The house was cleaned PERFECT .
I have so much to review. In the beginning I was getting nervous to stay at this cabin. I have seen a lot of bad reviews so I decided to just check it out for myself. EVERYTHING was great. You can’t expected to have an excellent driveway cause it’s the smoky mountains. We took our small car and did just fine. Yes the driveway and cabin is on the Side of the mountain. The cabin cleanliness was great no complaints. I seen a complaint on the smoke detector beaps. Never heard it. Seen complaints on remotes for tv and Xbox that doesn’t work. They do my son played Xbox and we watched tv. All in all I love this cabin and I would stay in it again. Great location. I hope this eases a lot of minds when they read the reviews.
The downstairs bedroom bed is not a queen bed it is a full the upstairs bedroom bed is not good when you get into the bed the front of it tilts down and ur feet goes up in the air. Didn't get much sleep at all. And if that wasn't enough the smoke detectors kept beeping and we ask the manager to send someone to fix it they said it was in the wall and couldn't do anything about it. The road leading up to the cabin is JUST HORRIBLE NEEDS MAJOR REPAIRS. AS FOR OUR VACATION TO PIGEON FORGE. WELL LET'S JUST SAY THAT WE WOULD HAVE HAD A GREAT VACATION !!! IF OUR ACOMADATION WERE AS ADVERTISED. WE ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE QUALITY OF SERVICE THAT WE GOT FROM MANAGEMENT AND NO RESPONSE AT ALL FORM OWNER. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST. WHEN YOU PAY FOR A VACATION THAT YOU WAIT FOR AND WORK FOR YOU SHOULD GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. I WILL BE POSTING THIS ON VRBO . THIS CABIN NEED A LOT OF WORK. AND MORE LIGHTING ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CABIN . I WILL NOT BE RECOMMENDING THIS CABIN AT ALL. THE MALONES
I have never left a negative review for any property. When we arrived there were dirty washcloths draped over the shower and the main bedroom downstairs wreaked of urine. We couldn't find the source of the smell at first. One we pull the blankets down the fitted sheet and mattress cover was soaked in urine. First red flag!! The linens weren't changed on any beds. We spent the night washing the linens and mattress covers but still had to put a towel over the urine to keep it from soaking into the clean sheets. The smoke alarm beeped every 34 seconds 24/7. This was extremely difficult with a baby trying to sleep. I contacted the property owners. They stated that they would send someone over. They didn't until the day before we left. Apparently after renovations at that cabin, they sheet rocked OVER an existing smoke alarm and couldn't disconnect it without tearing into the walls. When I questioned the mattress issue to the crew that came out, they were oblivious. I showed them the email where the owner stated that they were going to come check it out and bring another mattress if need be. NOPE. I emailed the property owners AGAIN and they have yet to respond. Like I said, I've never left a bad review, however the property owners didn't even offer up an apology, nothing!!! I would NEVER stay at this property again. Also, the check out instructions blatantly say to leave the sheets ON THE BED. This was disgusting.
I always go to hotels and wherever I stay wiping down everything and I was disappointed to see how dirty my wipes were especially after wiping the stair bannister. The one bedroom with the key pad on the door in the closet had me a little uncomfortable and , I understand we were way up in the mountains but I didn’t understand why the front door didn’t have a curtain on it. The Wi-Fi was terrible but again I understand that we were in the mountains. My overall experience staying at sugar bear mountain was very relaxing. I thought the cabin was very cute and cozy.
