Our cabin is located approximately 15 minutes to downtown West Jefferson on a graveled country road. Front wheel drive vehicles will not have any issues. However, we do strongly recommend 4WD/AWD vehicles during the snowy/icy times of winter. Our cabin is not motorcycle friendly.
Main Floor: As you enter our cabin from the covered porch, you’ll walk in and find T&G wood with high ceilings in the living room. Enjoy the gas stove in the living room during the cold fall/winter days and snuggle up to watch your favorite movie on the Roku TV (your login is needed). The kitchen is fully stocked including a Keurig maker and a regular coffee maker. There is access to the covered deck from the living room where you can enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature and the sounds of the nearby river. Enjoy making your favorite grilled dinner on our gas grill on the deck.
There are 2 spacious queen size bedrooms and 1 full bathroom on the main floor. One of the queen beds has a Sleep Number bed for the ultimate comfort.
Upper Floor: The master suite is located on the upper floor with an En Suite full bathroom and TV with Apple TV access. The loft is great for reading, taking a nap or just relaxing with a futon (not for sleeping).
Lower Level: The lower level is amazing and there is plenty of seating, Roku TV, another gas fireplace, and everyone will enjoy a friendly game of Ping Pong! There are several books to read as well.
The 4th bedroom is located on the lower level with 2 twin beds along with a full bathroom with a tub/shower combo. The full size washer/dryer is also just off the bedroom for your convenience. There is a lower deck with seating to relax and take it all in.
At "Rustic River Escape", we believe that nobody should be left behind. Why leave your pet at home when you can bring them along for the adventure. Well behaved dogs are welcome for a 1 time nonrefundable pet fee of $75 per dog plus tax (sorry, but no cats allowed).
Outside: Create new memories, roast marshmallows, roast hot dogs or just sit around and listen to the crackle of the wood in our fire pit in the yard (firewood not provided). Take a short hike down to the river and go fishing (fishing license required), swimming, or enjoy the sounds of the river. There is plenty of room outside to roam and explore. Take long walks on the graveled road, enjoy your favorite beverage on the covered decks, grill your favorite meal on the gas grill, and breathe in our fresh mountain air! This is a TRUE mountain experience!

Love the cabin location. Kitchen was very well set up with all cooking utensils.
Beautiful location and a very well stocked kitchen!
great location.easy to get to West Jefferson. The path to the river is steep and in need of light repair.elderly are unlikely to be able to get to the river by this path. Children will need help. House was great with very good living space and kitchen.Great yard for family ( including dogs). will be back. Property manager was terrific !!!
Wonderful home with a great hike to the river. We will be back.
The house was wonderful. We came with our kids and another family and their kids. The children really enjoyed fishing and swimming in the river. The basement in the house was great for the kids as well. Highly recommend.
My family enjoyed staying at the Rustic Retreat! My 87 year old dad was able to move around the main level with no issues. We could hear the river, which was beautiful! However, getting to it was too much for our group. We would stay at the Rustic Retreat again.
We really enjoyed staying at Rustic River Escape. Great quiet location in a beautiful area. House was super clean and well equipped. We really enjoyed it and will be back!
Everyone agreed that this is a great house in a beautiful location. We were lucky to arrive when the river was frozen...a real treat to us Floridians. The trail to the river is steep but all of us, even the grandma in the group, made it down and up safely, and the riverfront area is absolutely beautiful. The beds were very comfortable and the bedrooms a good size. The kitchen had everything we needed, including crock pots and cookie sheets. It was cold, so we did not sit on the deck, but you will love it in slightly warmer weather. It is large and the furniture looks comfortable, and the view is amazing. If you are there in the winter, do heed the warnings to have a four wheel drive vehicle. We were very happy on the icy days that we had the traction provided by the 4wd. Once you are settled in, I highly recommend visiting the New River State Park. It is beautiful and has a nice hiking trail, and picnic tables by the river. We had an altogether wonderful trip and did not want to come back home.
This property was very clean and provided enough space to spread out. The kitchen provided everything we needed to prepare our Thanksgiving meal. Neighbors, visiting and residents, were very friendly. Furniture in the main living area could use some updating but that is really the only negative we found. Views from the wrap around porch were gorgeous. The trail to the river was strenuous but gave all of us a good workout. Location was convenient to local shopping and trails. Overall our stay was very enjoyable.
Great cabin! Fully equipped, lots of room, decorated nicely. Will be going back!
My family and I plus our 2 dogs loved this property! It was a peaceful retreat nestled in a beautiful natural environment. The home was spacious and well outfitted for cooking, relaxing, playing games, and enjoying outdoor activities. We highly recommend it!
Our family enjoyed this quiet hideaway. There was lots of room to congregate in two indoor sitting areas, outside porches with furniture, or around the fire pit. We enjoyed our hike down to the river and back. We also spent a day canoeing the river. It was very relaxing.
We were looking for a place to take our four kids to get a quiet weekend away. Convenient to downtown West Jefferson with an excellent, challenging hiking path down to the river.
