Maple Ridge, British Columbia
Here is a spectacular private holiday getaway 45mins from Downtown Vancouver. This is a spectacular piece of River front acreage on the south Alouette River. A very livable, rustic style 2 bedroom cabin, well maintained and several outbuildings with options for extra accommodation. Adjacent to the Golden Ears park, over 400ft of river bank with beach and river bed easement privately owned. The property is incorporated with the Frenchmen's Pool - a spectacular fishing hold along with several other prime fishing spots. River tubing from the property to the Maple Ridge Park can last as two and half hours long or choose to tube for 10 mins with the 400ft river bank. Tubes and other recreational gear included. The property is over 2 acres.
This is an amazing place! I cannot do just for how magically beautiful this place is. The forest has layers upon layers of spongy moss and greenery, it felt so relaxing to be in it, whether we were in a hammock by the river or relaxing on the deck. My dog LOVED the space to gallop through the property. We (the humans) loved all the options we had for filling our time. There’s a full kitchen for cooking and grilling, badminton, bocce ball, and floating down the river. We just jumped in without any flotation equipment. The neighbors across the river gave us advice for where to go, avoiding the rapids. The property owners also told us we could cool off by sitting in chairs in the river, but we just never got to that. They had one big air mattress, but managing that on the trail down to the river seemed precarious. We were visited by a very large bear on our second evening! He seemed to want to check out the inside of the cabin!! We didn’t see it until it was right in front of the grill and we were chilling on the deck. We stood up and and talked to it, and it walked away. Phew! You should know that we were also visited by mice, inside the cabin. I didn’t take off stars for cleanliness because that hardly seems fair. It was very clean. And we had to stay up on the mice poop. A lot appeared while we were there, as well as scampering around at night. So, warning to those squeamish about mice. But the musty smell was gone. We absolutely loved our stay and would definitely go back.
After we made and paid for our reservation, we were notified there was no internet, the place smelled “rustic” (musty) and the water had a high level of iron in it which stains toilet and sink. If we told these things prior to booking we would have booked at a different property. That being said the property was nice and very private. Don’t trust Google maps. It first sent us the house at the end road which was too far. I sent the owner suggestion on how to improve their property and they seemed receptive to my suggestions. The property has been remodeled and the owners have made it a nice place to stay. They did provide bottled water jugs for drinking and cooking with. My only thing is make sure you are okay with the strong smell of iron in the water and the musty smell inside of the cabin. Do not expect any internet service or the tv/dvd to work properly. They had a stack of old DVDs which worked but the DVD remote did not work so you had to manually start and stop the movie and hope nothing happened or you would have to restart it from the beginning. If you are looking for somewhere secluded on the river and can overlook the musty smell inside and the strong iron smell in the water, you will be happy there. We stayed there 4 nights and with all the fees it was almost 450 a night (Canadian). So it wasn’t the cheapest place to stay.
The Cabin was perfect place for my dog. It has a big backyard with fence around. The sound of the river was very relaxing. Its a good get away from the city life. We had so much fun! Would definitely come back in the future and highly recommended it. It was an awesome experience.
Lovely little cabin in a quiet spot. I enjoyed my stay!
This was a great 3 day getaway for my me and my husband. The cabin has everything you need and very comfortable. The privacy is amazing, so peaceful and stress just fell away. The weather was great so we sat by the river most of the day. Our Dog had the time of her life. I really hope we can make it back there next year. Perfect spot.
a lovely little oasis in the forest with nature at its best a terrific property
Cabin is cozy with lots of open space outside. Refreshing river right by the property perfect for a hot sunny dayqq
The place was awesome and had tons of activities to do in the property and nearby. Host was always very friendly and prompt to reply. Some FYIs I wished I had: To clarify from the post, there is only a small bank where you take off on your tubing adventure - I expected a longer river bank from the description, but it was more than enough anyway. Not sure if there is more we could not see because the vegetation was very high. The post says the recreational gear is included, however, when I asked where I could find the tubes he mentioned they didn't provide any... Koshala was still nice and pointed out where they were anyway which confused me a little bit. There is no laundry. No tarps to cover the wood. I had my own and made use of it. Kitchen utensils are a little bit odd, for example, I could not find a wooden spoon. One bed is very springy and the other one is a hard one, we both had nice sleeps. Tons of movies to watch! Overall, very relaxing place and we had lots of fun. Wi-Fi was great. I would suggest to the Host to have more of a guide to the property regarding where to find things, how to do the garbage, what are the check-out procedures, etc. We had to figure out a lot on our own. 100% would recommend and would very likely come back :)!
juat what we were looking for!
Has all amenities you need for a nice cabin. Fencing is great for dogs. Beautiful river and rock for outdoor hangouts. Great host.
