MOUNTAIN MAMA VACATION HOMES
Welcome to a place of beauty, peace and rest--our cozy, mountainside bungalow overlooking Lake Shannondale is the perfect retreat. Toast to the gorgeous sunset off the deck each night after cooking in the fully-equipped kitchen. In the summer it's just a short drive down to the lake and the Mountain Lake Club for food, local craft beer, live music on the beach, and boat rentals. Wifi speeds are around 45 Mbps, so you can work remotely (if you must!)
We are committed to Rent Responsibly standards. This means we follow best-in-class guidelines to ensure you have a peaceful, safe and memorable stay with us. We care a lot about maintaining good relationships with our community, so we appreciate you following these "house rules" during your stay.
LODGING AGREEMENT: The guest booking the property must digitally sign a lodging agreement immediately following the reservation. The most important terms of the agreement are included below, and the guest may cancel a booking penalty free within 24 hours. If the lodging agreement is not completed with 24 hours then the reservation will be cancelled. The agreement will be sent via text message, so please be sure your phone number is correct before booking.
AGE 25 OR OLDER TO BOOK: The guest booking the property must be 25 years of age or older. We reserve the right to request a photo or scan of a government-issued photo ID. The guest who books must stay at the property--you may not book for others if you do not intend to stay at the property.
QUIET HOURS START AT 10 PM: Our property's quiet hours of 10 pm to 6 am are required by county ordinance and enforced by local police. If the police respond to a noise complaint, every individual on the property may face a misdemeanor criminal charge and be subject to a fine by the county of $300. Failure to abide by the county noise ordinance will result in the immediate termination of the stay without refund.
Past noise complaints have always come from groups of 20-somethings. If you are booking for a group of people in their twenties and you think your group may want to play loud music at any time then do not book this property or cancel your reservation if you have already booked. Find another place for your trip so you do not have your trip terminated early and without refund.
NOISE MONITORING AND SECURITY CAMERA: We use devices that measure volume levels throughout the property (like a smoke detector but for noise) and allow us to respond to noise nuisances before the police are called. The devices are triggered primarily by sustained periods of loud music, not things like loud talking or laughter (which is encouraged!). The devices do not record audio and are 100% privacy compliant. We also have a security camera that records the front door and driveway. This allows us to facilitate remote check in and monitor the property between guests.
ACCIDENT FORGIVENESS: Every stay is backed by our accident forgiveness program. Guests will not be held responsible for damage caused during their stay (up to a maximum of $1,500) if 1) the damage is accidental, and 2) the damage is reported as soon as possible, and by no later than the check out time.
POSSIBLE BACKGROUND CHECK: We reserve the right to use a third-party to verify the guest's identity and check criminal databases to finalize the reservation. Complete terms regarding the guest verification are provided in the lodging agreement, and can be provided sooner upon request.
NO PETS: No exceptions, sorry. Please don't ask whether we can allow your perfectly house-trained, hypoallergenic labradoodle to join because we can't :-)
DOG ALLERGY WARNING: While we do not allow pets, there have been dogs in this house before. Those with severe dog allergies may want to find a different place to stay.
STEEP ROADS: Please be aware that the roads up to the top of the mountain and the driveway to the property can be very steep. In the snow it can be difficult to access the property. At all other times access is not difficult, but driving on steep mountain roads may make some people nervous. If that sounds like you, it might be better to reserve a property that is not along the top of the Blue Ridge. Steep mountain roads are often what it takes to get incredible views like the ones from this cabin, and those who can manage the drive won't be disappointed!
REMOTE LOCATION: Please be aware that this cabin is a good 20 min drive from the nearest full-service grocery store. If you're looking for seclusion, this is it! But if you prefer being close to store then this may not be the place for you.
SNOW-INS: During the winter, four wheel drive, snow tires/chains, and a car with good clearance are HIGHLY recommended in the event of a snow storm or heavy rain, as there is a good chance that a significant snow storm could restrict access in and out of the house. You need to use good judgement as to whether to cancel a trip before it begins or leave the house early.
BUGS: This is a house in the woods--that means there are lots of bugs, especially in the summertime. Even if you are careful some of those bugs will find their way into the house. The best way to minimize the number of bugs inside is to keep doors and windows closed at all times. Please also carefully clean up the kitchen every night and securely package up all food.
NO SMOKING: Smoking is never allowed inside the house. You may smoke outside as long as you clean up after yourself. You may not litter cigarette butts on the deck, in the yard, or anywhere else--butts must go in the trash after they have cooled off.
SHEETS: At the end of your stay you will be asked to strip the sheets off the beds that were used and leave the sheets on top of the beds.
SEPTIC SYSTEM: This house has a septic system. Grease and oil must never be allowed down any of the sink drains. Feminine hygiene products must be thrown away in a trash can and not flushed down a toilet. Never flush solid trash down the toilet or into a sink drain.
NO FIREWORKS: Fireworks are not allowed.
NO FIREARMS: Guests may not bring firearms or ammunition inside the house.
NO ILLEGAL DRUGS: Guests may not possess or consume any illegal drugs on the property, including cannabis.

Loved everything, property managers attention and help was great. View is breathtaking
Amazing property for a large group. Everyone had plenty of space and couldn’t get over the amazing views. Communication with property manager was fantastic.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Rebel’s Rest. Everything was perfect and the host provided many suggestions for activities and restaurants. The view from the deck is amazing! We were very comfortable and happy with the layout and amenities in the cabin. Great place for a romantic getaway, family event, or a girlfriends weekend. Well done Mountain Mama! We plan on staying at your original cabin on the lake next time. ?
This place had the most amazing views of the mountains and the Shenandoah river. The place was very clean and the beds were comfortable as well. There was only one issue with the TV in the play area, but that was resolved. We will definitely stay here again sometime in the future.
Rebels Rest is just like it looks in photos. The views were great. The drive up was easier than I expected. The rooms were comfortable. Everything you need in the kitchen is provided. I love the library room. The book collection is incredible throughout the house, along with games and puzzles. The wifi was solid, too, as shown. The deer came to the side yard and we saw 2 pileated woodpeckers. A treasure spot.
If you are looking for a getaway from all the noise, then this is the place for you. The back balcony overlooking the valley was perfect for relaxing and watching sunsets.
We really enjoyed our long weekend here. Quiet. Beautiful view. Plenty of room and fun things to do for our teenager. Close to Harpers Ferry and great hiking trails.
We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. The place was perfectly set up for our group of adults & kids. The property was well cared for & clean. The view can’t be beat. And communication with the manager was seamless. Would stay here again. Thanks!
Nice place with a killer view and a great fireplace to keep you cozy and warm.
Beautiful home and location. Great space for a weekend away!
Excellent view, cozy house, good amenities. Great boy negative no clear communication there was only 1 TV in upper level Master.
The pictures don’t do it justice. The view is amazing especially at sunset. The cabin is clean and with more space than expected. The fire pit was beautiful. An added bonus is that it is walkable to the Appalachian Trail for great hikes. We’ll be back soon!
We had a girls' weekend at the cabin in mid-October and it was the perfect place. Great base of operations for local day trips, but we always made sure to get back to the cabin in time for cocktails to enjoy the amazing sunset views. The cabin is very well equipped and just the right size for four adults.
This was by far the best stocked home we have ever stayed in. Views from the deck were breathtaking. Would highly recommend.
I stayed here with a friend to kick off a sabbatical season, and it provided just the right amount of distance from normal life, scenic views, comfortable furnishings, and opportunities for fun. We spent most of the time sitting on the back deck reading, spotting deer, enjoying the amazing sunsets, and watching a powerful thunderstorm roll through. I also loved the reading nook and spent a good bit of time enjoying the pop-a-shot game in the basement. We rode into Harper's Ferry historical site a couple days to take advantage of hiking and restaurants. There is plenty of room for multiple families or friends to stay comfortably. I plan to return with my family in the coming months.
