Alma, Colorado
Bristlecone Pine Lodge is a cozy, knotty pine adorned 3bd 2ba retreat located in the Placer Valley area of Alma, CO, which is just 16 miles south of Breckenridge, CO. Each room in the house features incredible views of the S. Platte River and the surrounding 14K ft peaks that are covered with pine and aspen below the tree line and snow above. There are panoramic views of these white-capped peaks all year long. The Platte River is right across the road and offers fly fishing or fishing from the bank.
A quick trip up the pine spiral staircase takes you to the main level, which is a sun-filled open concept layout that features a huge vaulted ceiling and accompanying bank of windows with panoramic views of the white-capped mountains, a classic antique wood stove, plenty of seating, a dining area, the second full bathroom. The spacious kitchen has all the amenities (including a dishwasher) needed to easily prepare meals for a large group. Another jaunt up the spiral staircase takes you to the spacious loft, which features two comfortable queen futons situated around a 42" television with DirectTV and a DVD player. There is also a Foos-ball table and air hockey table here.
Fairplay is known as "The Base camp of the Rockies" because of its fantastic central location. You can take a different day trip every day or just stay right in Fairplay and never grow bored. Fairplay has so many outdoor activities. You can hike, mountain climb, ice climb, fish, hunt, explore ghost towns, ATV, explore jeep trails, go on motor tours across mountain passes, horseback ride, and so much more. The famous restored 1800's mining town of South Park is located right in Fairplay.
Some of the day trips you can take from the home include going to the Victorian town of Breckenridge where you can ski and snowboard at the world class resort. They offer ice skating, snow tubing, an alpine slide, mountain biking, a gold coaster, lots of unique shops and great dining. Another great day trip is going white-water rafting on the Arkansas River. The best rafting in Colorado is just 25 minutes away. The cute ghost town of St. Elmo is very close too. Be sure to feed the chipmunks. They flock to this location. If you want to do a day trip on ATV's you can rent them at the St. Elmo General Store and take an unguided day trip that is a loop with lots of old mines, ghost towns, and the highest alpine tunnel around. You can eat lunch in another ghost town called Tincup where only ATV's gather for a fabulous burger. It is a great ATV trip or if you are up for a day hike, it is a gorgeous trail.
Many of the famous 14'ers surround the home and Fairplay where you can hike or climb to the top. They offer some of the most amazing trails in Colorado. If you are interested in going to the Colorado Springs area, it is only 90 miles away. You can visit Garden of the Gods and Royal Gorge in one day trip. I recommend going to Florissant Fossil Beds in Florissant which is only about 45 minutes away. If you like to fish, the Platte River is right by the home and offers Gold Medal Fishing. Montgomery Reservoir, Lake Jefferson, Antero Reservoir, Spinney, and Eleven Mile Lakes are also very close. It is also a hunting paradise. Horseback riding is just 10 minutes from the home at the South Platte Ranch. They have awesome day trips and evening steak rides. If you come in the winter, I personally recommend the Keystone sleigh ride and tubing at the top of Keystone Mountain. If you like to ATV, Park County is an ATVers paradise! There are trails in every direction. Just call us for specific recommendations. One of my favorites is going over Mosquito Pass where you can ride right into Leadville and have lunch and shop at one of the many unique stores. Staying at Bristlecone Pine Lodge is a memory you and your family will hold onto for a lifetime!

It had the most amazing views! The cabin was cozy and had everything we needed.
A unique place, with great views! We even saw moose swimming.
Beautiful home. With amazing views. Our kids loved the upstairs loft with the foosball table. It was nice being able to have a big table for family dinners. All the beds were very comfortable and clean. The kids corner
We loved our stay at Bristlecone Pines, very comfortable home in a beautiful setting. Great wildlife, mountain views and friendly and responsive property management. Hope to be back soon!
The views were incredible, close to great fishing, hiking, off-roading, exploring, etc. The property had excellent amenities—everything one would want and then some: great grill, games, stereo and fantastic collection of music, fishing gear, kitchen accessories, fire stove, etc. Would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend.
Loved the fuse ball table. Convenient to Breck and private.
We had a great stay here! It was so great that the property had everything we needed and offered special amenities such as an infant high chair and a dog kennel. The view was spectacular as well. Thanks for a great vacation.
Bristlecone pines was everything the property manager advertised it as. Dog friendly, close to Breckinridge, and amazing views. Saw several moose during our stay as well. Beds are very comfortable and plenty of room for multiple guests. Lots of windows so very bright and gorgeous to drink your coffee too in the morning and look out. The spiral staircase going through the middle of the cabin was unique and one of a kind. We loved it, 5 stars all the way and I would recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay.
Very happy with the property. Convenient to Breck and great rustic/mountain feel. Hopefully will be available next year.
Size and the views were spectacular Even loved the wood stove
Overall very nice, appreciated well equipped kitchen. Great location and mountain views. Only caution is the very step and narrow steps in house. We did fine, but renters should be aware.
Really nice mountain view. All amenities to stay like home. I am going back for sure.
besides location and repeating all the positives: provide cleaning products/ we bought a spray to clean surfaces do not store paint jars under bed, like - really? do some weed whacking outside king size bedroom - who wants to look at dandelions from the bed? provide a non stick pan to make eggs update the main level furniture incl rugs - way past prime with no closet space or hangers provide some storage solution mesh door on main level entrance to keep flies out
We had a really great time. We had everything we needed to comfortably stay in the house for two weeks. The views from all windows are gorgeous. Although we have two suggestions for improvement: 1) the widows need cleaning; we cleaned the ones we could reach, but it’s a shame such views were obstructed by very dusty vale. 2) dishwasher needs deep cleaning, and its rinse section cap was missing. The night sky was stunning when clear. It’s a good spot for stargazing with no light pollution. Very peaceful and quiet valley with wildlife and many beautiful trails nearby with various levels of difficulty. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you!
Had lots of snow and roads were closed. Management really took care of us. Great communication.
Very nice getaway in a beautiful open valley very scenic and quiet. A bit outdated and stuffy with dusty air, but warm and homey a place you felt very comfortable relaxing for the day. Very food for a secluded private getaway, except a hot tub...lol
Beautiful home! Neat and tidy. Had everything you could need for cooking, grilling, and bathroom/laundry needs. The staircase is tight but you can also access the kitchen from the patio steps. We went in mid-June so it was a bit warm in the late afternoon/evening but cooled down quickly once the sun slips behind the mountain. My only suggestion is maybe a patio umbrella or awning on the top patio. Other than that we loved it. Comfy beds and cozy pillows and blankets. Plush towels for the bathrooms. Not too far from town and we loved Almart! Great place to stay.
This cabin fit all our needs for family and friends. Just a short, beautiful drive to Breckenridge and much more affordable than being right in the ski town! We would definitely stay again and would recommend this cabin to anyone looking to be close to all the ski towns on a budget! Thanks again!
Beautiful views and the place was really nice. Would book again
