Nice quiet place, it was everything we needed for our trip

Upon arriving, we were somewhat taken aback by the foot high weeds and the UN-mowed grass on the property. The inside was tidy, only one tray for ice cubes in the freezer and the place reeked of “air-wick solid” room scent, for which I immediately felt a headache coming on. The wooden cutting board was questionably sanitary with many black (mold?) knife marks, a NOT NEW sponge for dish washing, (a brand new dishwashing sponge should be provided for every new guest as sponges harbor bacteria!), and there were no reading lamps in the living room or bedrooms,…just harsh fluorescent LED lightbulbs in ceiling mounted wire fixtures. The window air conditioner was adequate for the kitchen/living room area, but not the master bedroom; I placed the floor fan provided (which was covered with dust), on a closet shelf, but the oscillation feature did not work. Access to Houghton Lake was somewhat misleading as it was a 6’ patch of sand on the shore designed more for launching kayaks, over sitting and enjoying the lake view. The only place to sit outdoors was a table and 4 outdoor chairs (which had abundant bird droppings on them), in the “backyard” overlooking the weeds, the garage door, and perhaps a sliver of the lake between cottages across the street. All in all it was disappointing, a bit “seedy,” and we left early. ‘Guess this was a lesson in “you get what you pay for.”

Simple, convenient to the water, appropriate for a couple of adults.

I went up with my best friend to attend a wedding on a different lake in a nearby town. The location of this cottage made it easy for us to get to and from the wedding. While the cottage has lake access, it’s not any type of beach front but you can load kayaks easily. However the ease to find a public beach is easy enough. There is plenty of parking for more than one car. The neighborhood is quiet and restful. The cottage itself was very clean and put together and had everything we needed for our trip. The host have been kind and gracious. I’d us it again.

Comfortable beds, a full kitchen, grill, bicycles, kayaks, ample parking, TVs in every room, laundry, and a full bathroom; all for an amazing price.We stayed three nights and cooked the majority of our meals at the cottage. Our family enjoyed the proximity to the local attractions and beaches. Everyone was comfortable and had a very relaxing vacation.

Overall was a very nice little place. The bunk beds were adorable. I would however, recommend having more hand towels in the kitchen available to make dishwashing a little easier, but this is more a suggestion not a complaint.

The cabin was perfectly clean and comfortable. We were there for a wedding so we did not get to use the kayaks but walked over to the lake and it was a beautiful view! Communication with the hosts was excellent!

We were able to spend time with family who live nearby on the lake and yet have our own space. It was clean, convenient & so cute! We will definitely rent again!

I was in Houghton Lake for a golf tournament. Stayed at the property for 3 days. Perfect for me and would be good for a small family also. Very good communication from owners with all the information.

The lake house was lovely! The owners communicated very well. The only thing I would have changed is stating in the ad for the listing that you cannot walk to and hang out at the water. That was the sole reason for booking this location. My kids love to fish and were looking forward to just walked 200 feet to the lake, but we weren’t able to do that. Otherwise, the price was great, awesome setup and quiet neighborhood.

It was very clean and cozy. The weather was still cold to catch any fish so we stayed in more than planned. Located in a convenient spot. Close to restaurants and party store. Just over an hour to Traverse city. Not too far for groceries. Only could stay 3 nights. Communication from owners A. My husband made a good choice for our short getaway. Close to the lake and a marina. I would go back here.

Place was wonderful. Very cute. The owners were great and were very helpful when we needed things. Definitely would recommend for a little getaway trip.

Accommodations were perfect! We needed a place to stay while renovating our property. It was close and worked out great.

This cottage suited our needs for my son and I, and we took our beach chairs to sit at the end of the road, by the water, for a number of hours. Very nicely decorated, and all the conveniences of home. Cute welcome treats were a nice touch.

This small cottage nonetheless has every convenience we could have asked for and more. It is neat and charming in its aspect, and we will quite possibly be returning here again for future anniversaries.

My twin really enjoyed the kayaks & bikes. It was a sweet quaint cottage on Houghton Lake w/ a good location. We are from the south & have very nice high quality water. Saying that, I'm not used to the smell of the tap water, which I was not be able to drink. It was comparable to a sulphur or an egg smell. Not sure if the water softener wasn’t working or not. Over all that is the only concern I had. The owners are very nice & hospitable. Enjoy the cottage & our time spent there.

My husband and I stayed for a week for our anniversary with our kids joining us for the last couple nights. The cottage was absolutely perfect for the week! The big garage with bikes and extra kayaks was a huge added bonus. The place was so cute and comfortable, and we were very close to the lake. We had a fantastic week and would definitely come back!
