Sedona, Arizona
A Cabin that is steps to the river with Mountain Views and a back entrance into the most popular West Fork Trail in Sedona, AZ on the Oak Creek River. 20min to Flagstaff and 10 min to Slide Rock we are in the most perfect and sought after location. If you don't want to be stuck in the traffic of Sedona and get away from it all then consider making this amazing place, your next Arizona vacation.
This 3B/2B Cabin was built in a very special area to this red rock region which is secluded just outside the main congested city of Sedona. This is the area everyone comes to see and visit while they hike and fish and this cabin is perched 150yds above the river in the middle of it all. The amount of time you will save not having to drive while you circle the area for hours looking for a legal parking spots is priceless, especially when on vacation. Behind our two level cabin is the National Forest that provides all the privacy you need to relax and enjoy pitch black nights that smell of pine needles and wood burning stoves. With this seclusion does come some draw backs and that is snowing weather with rapid melts that swell the river and can at times, make our small private road that crosses over the river difficult. * Read below for all the details. 95% of the year there is no issues with accessing the cabin.
Comfortably sleeps 7 (4 adults/3 kids) Three bedrooms...Master King and bath with shower, 2nd queen bed and 3rd upstairs kids bedroom bunk bed with pullout trundle bed. 2nd bathroom on top level has a larger shower with a larger full size stack-able washer dryer. Large open living room with amazing canyon views and extra large balcony for outdoor eating, BBQ, lounging and sitting around the safe propane fireplace (no wood fires permitted due to fire hazards within the cabin) 3 cars max with three parking spots up on our parking pad. There is no parking anywhere else as you will block the road or our neighbors parking. The driveway is steep and can be a problem in the winter, not allowing you to park in the designated parking area. If there is snow or ice on Shady LN we require you to have real 4x4 This is a cabin tucked in a canyon with only a few other homes close by so we ask all guests to be mindful the road and parking.
There is a small country store down the road with a coffee shop and limited amenities. Although we have satellite internet (Starlink) which works great for internet browsing and emails it is not consistent enough to stream Netflix and other apps on a consistent basis. We have a large DVD collection and Direct TV DVR. We as owners enjoy the fact we have limited internet and can really unplug from the rest of the world and take a true vacation. Verizon and other major carriers have decent LTE coverage out on the front part of the cabin.
Weather issues explained in more detail:
There is a dry river crossing and short dirt road with a steep driveway access to the cabin for 95% of the yr that even a sports car can easily use but winter months can make access difficult. Let me repeat this may only happen a couple times a yr during extreme winter snows and flooding, this does not happen very often but when it does you need to understand this information below. The worst time is simply snow (3" or more) a few times in the winter which most 4x4's can handle with off road style tires but the real problem is if the driveway freezes and gets icy not allowing you to get up to the parking area. Then after the snow stops and is followed by warm weather or rain it can cause the river to flood. Best thing to do is book your stay around those winter months then reach out to us and we will advise you best we can if snow and floods are going to be a possible issue. Up to date weather info is only available 2 weeks out and not super accurate till days before. If weather prevents your stay we will refund you according to our refund policies. Two other things that can cause issues is if the state closes the main highway but, that is usually only during extreme weather and if they haven't plowed the road yet or second if the weather has been sever leading up to your reservation we still need time to get our cleaners in to clean after bad storms and it has been keeping them out. We will try our best to alert you of stormy weather but we cannot guarantee it. If it overflows or the road is closed while you are at the cabin you will not be able to drive out but there is always walking access out through West Fork parking/entrance by using a 1 mile long trail that is accessed at the end of shady lane via trail head which that has a very high bridge over the river. That trail might be muddy or snowy so I don't recommend it for elderly or small kids, but it is there and you can get out to the main highway. When I personally stay there and I feel like there is a chance that the river will rise on me I will sometimes park a vehicle at the West Fork Parking and leave a note for the rangers telling them not to tow and why I am parked there with my phone number. So I can walk out and have a vehicle. We will do everything we can to keep house open and available during those times.
Finally there is a septic tank so you must be conscious not to flush anything other than waste and septic safe toilet paper. Most cabins in this area have self contained sewer so we are one of a few that has the convenience an actual septic tank.
With all that said this is a special place despite it possible difficulties in the winter. You can fish along the river with a fishing license (rangers patrol and write large tickets if you don't have a lic) we just ask to be mindful of our neighbors, their private property and not to over fish the small creek. We practice catch and release with the browns and brook trout and when we want to keep fish we catch at Sedona Rainbow Trout Farm a few miles down the road. Very easy for everyone and guaranteed to catch trout for $. In late summer there are wild blackberries and crab apple trees which you can pick right around the house and all along the river. Pretty amazing to catch your dinner, pick fruit for desert pies and drink spring water collected only a few miles north.
Max 3 cars. Two cars is more do able but there is room for 3 if need be. There is no parking for any additional cars.
Propane tanks are available at the cabin and sometimes may be full, but refills are the responsibility of the guest and can be done at the Home Depot in Flagstaff or any gas stations that offer it.
Trash Cans must be strapped closed and there is an additional cleaning fee if renters negligence allows wildlife to shred open the trash and make a mess. it will happen trust me even if you leave open one night. The raccoons don't miss a meal...ever.
**Please note that we do have security cameras located outside at the property.
Absolutely beautiful house and nicely secluded. I have to note the house smelled amazing inside. We had some bad weather and the owner's communication was excellent about how to handle it. The kitchen was well stocked in supplies-- we were able to cook Thanksgiving dinner with all the pots/pans and utensils provided. Our guests with at&t could not get a good signal, but verizon worked perfectly. A nice trail is conveniently located by just a short walk, but the views from the porch are amazing. If we get the chance to be in the area again, we would definitely stay here again.
Great home with plenty of space for a family of 6 to 10. In the middle of Flagstaff and Sedona but closer to Sedona. Secluded enough for plenty of privacy and peace. Great place to visit.
The property was in great condition. The beds were very comfortable and cozy. The WiFi password was not listed correctly, and the host did not return our call when we checked in. We had some trouble with the light switches, but overall, we had a very nice stay and were able to walk over to the West Fork Trail
We enjoyed our stay with our family and fantastic access to the trail. The house is super cozy, with comfortable beds and everything you need to have a wonderful time in Oak Creek.
Home was comfortable but older outside. We had a mouse staying with us. He chewed up the spare toilet paper in the main floor bathroom. I would suggest putting a blind or shade on that bathroom window as well so guests feel privacy. Should probably let guests know how steep the driveway is and the road going into the property.
The location was absolutely perfect for us. Gorgeous, peaceful, just what we needed. We were able to work from there using the satellite internet and still make a getaway with our family. The proximity to the things we wanted to do made this a place we will likely come again in the future. The host was helpful and accommodating in letting us add a small dog on to our stay right before our stay as well.
We had such a lovely stay at the Oak Creek Retreat. The cabin was clean and kitchen was well equipped. Great location in oak creek with west fork trail in walking distance. Hope to vacation here again.
Close to everything & yet out in woods. House had all home necessities. worth the money for the stay.
Beautiful cabin, very well kept and updated interior. They thought of everything!
Nothing beats waking up to magnificent views of the Sedona Mountains and the sound of Oak Creek!
My Husband, Daughter and her family enjoyed celebrating my husbands birthday! The house had great views of the canyon walls and forest! Very clean and comfortable! We spotted two dear by the house ? Also had a black bear walking behind the house!!! While we were cooking dinner! Amazing ? Thank
Bedrooms were adequate this time and clean, however, All four outside Garbage cans were full of trash. All four natural gas tanks were empty and we could not grill or use outside fireplace. There was plenty of wood but inside fireplaces were locked and forbidden. Inside AC did not work. Two portable AC inside were useless. We were hot and uncomfortable and all the activities we were planning to do at the house didn’t work. Lots of movies, however, movies were not advertised and not the experience we were looking for.
This is the 2nd time we have stayed here. It's a beautiful secluded location. If you bring your dog, know that there is no fence or enclosure so pup should be off leash trained. There are tons of games movies etc if you're stuck inside but i highly recommend walking and exploring the woods and babbling brook. I spread my dad brother and dogs ashes here...it was so cathartic and peaceful I'll definitely be back!!!
This property was in a great location, within walking distance to West Fork, and an easy drive to Flagstaff or Sedona. However, that was the best part. The house was not as expected based on photos. Communication with the owner was quick and as expected. However, the cleaning person was still there on our arrival and didn't leave until a few minutes after check-in time. Even still, there were cobwebs all over the property inside, and there was a musky smell for a property having just been cleaned. Not to mention, it wasn't very clean. Then, the ceiling fans in the living/dining area upstairs didn't work, and it was July during the hottest time of year. I messaged the owner about this, and the response was simply one might work without any meaningful solution to it. A plank on the bunk bed upstairs was broken, though thankfully, my child staying in that top bed was old enough that it didn't present a safety issue. The water pressure in the kitchen sink was terribly low. Speaking of bathrooms, the primary bathroom in the ensuite had a shower that was tiny and nearly unusable. It was old, not well cleaned, and the shower head was so low my husband couldn't use it. We all showered upstairs in the other bathroom/laundry room. The primary bedroom had no closet, so everything had to be folded and placed in small drawers in a side table, which wasn't great for business clothing brought either. While the outdoor spaces had potential to be so beautiful, the furniture was worn out, a wooden baluster/plank of the patio fencing out front was loose and a hazard for a toddler, there were webs and bugs everywhere (clearly no outdoor maintenance in quite sometime), and the hammock in the photo wasn't present at all, which was disappointing. All in all, for the price paid, I would not stay here again, but at other rentals in the area where we have stayed that are better kept and cared for.
Exactly what we were looking for and needed can’t wait to come back!
We had a great time here! The place was clean, and so convenient as we could walk to the creek and to the West fork trailhead! Didn’t move our cars all weekend! The only negatives I would say is that there are amenities that use propane, and there were 4 empty tanks there…no close by services to fill that we could find; also in some of the areas behind deck where our kids wanted to dig and play was a lot of dog poop, and in driveway…please clean up after your pets! We would love to come back again!
The entire home was clean and had everything we needed for the stay. Beds were comfy and the deck space was very large. Only took about 2 minutes to reach the creek where my children played most of the time and the West Fork Trailhead was maybe a 5 minute walk
The pictures and description are not accurate with respect to the property being secluded. There were houses very close to the property and early morning construction and loud music. The property was extremely dirty with dust, mouse droppings, all sorts of bugs, and clutter everywhere. This has been the only rental experience (out of many) I had to write a bad review for. This is not worth the price and was not a comfortable stay. We were very disappointed in this property especially for the price. Future renters be warned!
We had an amazing stay at this property for our family trip. We loved the location and felt like it was the perfect mixture of seclusion and convenience to multiple hiking trails and Sedona. The property was clean and well stocked. It was perfect for what we wanted and needed. We would definitely recommend this property!
