The location (called Spyglass Dunes by actual rental company) was convenient. My teen was staying at a state park down the road. It allowed me to be close by but still give my teen autonomy. The ocean is a fairly short walk down a gravel road, but you can't see it until you get to the end of the road and over the dunes. The property had a mildly homelike feel. It wasn't cleaned that well. Some of the plates and cups in the cupboards were dirty. The dehumidifier machine next to the front door was full of water and not working until I figured out that the water reservoir needed emptying. The coffee maker had old grounds in it from the prior client. The carpet had sharp plant burrs in it. We took our shoes off when we went inside and our socks picked up sharp burrs right away. It became clear that shoes were needed to walk on the carpet. This isn't the property's fault, but the mosquitos were relentless! We had to hurry from the car to the house or we were covered in mosquitos. I bought Deet down the road in Westport and that made things more tolerable. There isn't adequate lighting around the property. There is just one working porch light at the front door but none at the back. The adjacent property is sketchy looking and with no lighting around the property it doesn't feel that safe. Staying here wasn't a bad experience, but we wouldn't stay here again. We would stay in the area again.
All good
Enjoyed the amenities, being able to cook in a clean kitchen is great! The beds were very comfortable even the hide-a-bed sofa was good. The one drawback is the yard full of goatshead weeds with stickers. They stuck to our shoes and were tracked into the house where we were going barefoot and suffered numerous stickers in our feet. My dog got them stuck in his paws too. Those stickers HURT!!
Cute little house with easy access to the beach. Nice quiet neighborhood and close to town. Will be back
I rarely like to give less than good reviews, but this poor place needs some serious help. It feels there was/is no concern for the appointments inside the home. It's a hodge/podge of everything from a low end thrift store......mis-matched everything: Bedding, towels, dishes, furniture, all around decor. Upon arriving, the home had an odor that needed windows open to help flow the odor out. There was already a window open by the front door with an air purifier adjacent. (Bedroom window was open too). The yard is not maintained, therefore seasonal goat heads or burrs are EVERYWHERE. You cannot walk barefoot let alone let your pet walk through the yard. In less than a few minutes of letting our dog go outside, I had to help him 3 times get the burrs out of his feet. We then had to keep ONLY to the gravel road for him to potty. It wasn't possible to use the yard whatsoever. I called the HOST who said I needed to call VRBO, who said I needed call the HOST. Complete run around. Then it was too late to contact anyone. An email was received apologizing for the dry yard. It was so very disappointing to stay 5 days and can't go in the yard that is PET FRIENDLY. Unfortunately, given it's high season, there wasn't anywher else to stay. We grinned and bared it and chalked it up to one of life's little adventures. ASIDE from the house, we had a GREAT time crabbing, sunning on the beach, trying all the local chowders and meeting up with great friends!
We enjoyed our stay. The house was adequately equipped and clean. The house is in a nice and quiet location. The public beach access is just down the road.
Me and my family (including our doggie) had a great time. The proximity to the beach was perfect and house itself was fit all our needs. Thanks again for our wonderful beach vacation!
This was our second stay at this property, and we had a great time! The kitchen has an interesting assortment of equipment (no liquid measures or sheet pans, but 6 different pairs of grilling tongs for example) but that's pretty standard for a rental house. If you're planning to cook a lot, maybe bring your favorite tools with you like we've learned to do. There was a bunch of work happening at the next house over, with a lot of noise, but that isn't in the owner's control. Thankfully there's a sizeable lawn between the houses so it wasn't unbearable, anyway.
Everything was really good. I would suggest a new coat of paint on the interior.
This is our second stay and we love it here. Close to the beach, clean, plenty of space to cook and lounge. There is even a fish cleaning station outside. We will definitely return!
Had a short notice visit to the beach for clamming and crabbing. This place has everything we needed. Location is great too.
Nice clean place. Very comfy and close to the beach. Will do it again.
It was easy check in, but a little hard to find the place at night. While there was plenty of room for us, the beds were uncomfortable. Aside from the spiders in the bathroom the rest of the property was bug free and clean.
We enjoyed our stay. It's not a fancy place but it's cosy and comfy and perfect to relax! The walk to the beach is not long. We liked the layout and could see that it would be great for a larger family group. It felt like visiting a grandparent at a beloved vacation home.
We loved the Privacy and the access to the beach. Bedding is a little outdated in the Master bedroom and the bed is a little hard for my likings. Could use a good deep clean. Overall we wouldn’t definitely stay again if they would have us
A very nice place, private, quiet and comfortable. All the amenities needed for a Beach walking Vacation. The only thing I would have liked is a firmer bed. Personal preference.
