Park Rapids, Minnesota
The perfect combination of woods and water, our Log Cabin is situated on nearly 2 acres of heavily wooded land with a beach and dock on gorgeous Ojibway Lake.
Our cabin is ideal for family vacations or low-key groups of friends. Spend your days lounging on the beach, enjoying a fire in our fire pit, fishing, boating and canoeing. And yes, that is a high-tech massage chair you spy in the photos!
If you have to WFC (work from cabin), there is super-fast fiber optic WiFi, an office (that does double-duty as a small bedroom) with a smart monitor ideal for digital nomads and flexcationers.
We love the absolute peacefulness and quiet of our location - we are far from any busy streets so the only sound you hear is the wind whistling through the poplars and the loons calling. At night the only light is from the moon and the Milky Way (and sometimes the Northern Lights!). And yet we are just a few minutes from the shops and restaurants of Dorset, Park Rapids, Walker and Nevis. The Heartland Trail is close by too, ideal for bikers, rollerbladers and snowmobilers.
Our neighbors value peace and quiet too - this is a lake with primarily kayakers, fishing boats and pontoons. Jet skis and speedboats are rare. If your ideal vacation is a rowdy afternoon of waterskiing and tubing... this may not be the best fit for you.
You can use our included paddleboat, kayaks and canoe for some fun on the water. Ojibway Lake is known for Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike and Bluegills, which you can fish for right off the dock. If you wish to bring a boat please contact us; there will be an additional liability wavier required for our floating dock and we want to make sure our lake and dock/beach are a good fit for your boat and boating plans. You can search the MN DNR or Lake Link for Ojibway Lake in Hubbard County to see more about our lake's size, depth and fish
The beach features a shallow hard sand walkout, great for kids or lazy lounging. Comfortable loungers and beach umbrellas mean you can relax with music, a book or a cocktail and feel your cares melt away in the sun. We provide a paddle boat, 4 kayaks and canoe for use by guests. For avid swimmers, the paddle boat can take you to the deeper part of the lake for swimming in the crystal-clear waters of Lake Ojibway.
Please note there is an outdoor security camera facing the trees and lake.
A few additional notes:
CHILDREN | Our cabin is great for families but there are a number of open stairways. It is not easily childproofed for very small children or toddlers and it is not designed to be indestructible for rambunctious children. Please look closely at the photos if you are coming with children to determine if the space will be a good fit for your family. We do not provide a high chair or crib so if you need those items you will need to bring your own.
WILDLIFE AND BUGS | We have a regular pest service treat the cabin; however it is a heavily wooded property and there will be wildlife, critters and bugs outside and we can not guarantee that an enterprising spider or ladybug won't make their way inside during your stay!
GUEST LIMIT | Our limit of 6 guests is firm and will be enforced. This limit is tied to our short term rental license and we can not accommodate any exceptions. Thank you!
This was by far the most thoughtful and idyllic spot my family has stayed. We had a girls trip for the fourth and the home is cozy and expansive. No detail was left out and the pictures don’t do justice. Even better than what you expect! Danika was super informative and responsive. We had a snafu (our doing) and she was incredibly understanding. Ten stars!
This is a beautiful lakeside cabin to enjoy time away from home. But it felt like home. It had every essential one would ever need. I have never reserved a VRBO with so many special touches. So private, a great deck to sit out on and enjoy listening and watching all kinds of wildlife. Kayaks and comfy beach furniture. Such a relaxing place after a day of biking. Danika shared so much information about things to do and always replied back promptly. Thank you Danika for sharing this lovely vacation home with us.
Perfect floor plan so everyone has their own space. Beds are extremely comfortable and everything is clean. Water is crystal clear and much fun was had on the Kayaks and peddle boat. At night we enjoyed a fire while listening to coyotes howl off in the distance. So much wildlife! Trumpeter swans, pileated woodpeckers, deer, and turkeys. Kitchen had everything we needed and very spacious. Host was incredibly kind and helpful answering all my questions prior to arrival. We really loved our stay and can’t wait to go again. Thank you!
Park Rapids is an adorable town with so much to offer everybody. We enjoyed our stay at the cabin relaxing and exploring outdoors and added adventure by heading to Itasca State Park and downtown Park Rapids. Everything at the cabin was just as we expected and the stay was just what we needed to rejuvenate.
The cabin was beautifully equipped, from the beds, to the kitchen, right down to the bathroom and beach towels. Everything was first-class, decorated with an up-north, log cabin vibe. The communication with the hosts was clear and timely. There was a well-written binder with details about the cabin and the surrounding area on the dining room table. Our stay was in early October. The colors were spectacular. We saw loons, geese, squirrels and based on the number of sunnies swimming around the dock, the lake must be teaming with fish. It didn’t rain during our 5 days, but if it did, there were plenty of games, books, streaming channels and a well-equipped kitchen to bake bread and cook a favorite meal. Although the cabin is tucked away in the woods and surrounded by towering trees, we were still within an easy drive to the cute little town of Dorset or the big city of Park Rapids. This trip was a trial run with just the two of us. We’ll be back with kids and grandkids. There’s plenty of room, a sandy beach with lots of water toys. In summary, this property was warm, inviting, private and peaceful. If you’re looking to experience all that the Park Rapids area has to offer, we’d highly recommend this cabin on Lake Ojibway.
It took me a full week to write this review because I didn't know how I would begin in order to do this beautiful log home justice...so I will start with two simple words: It's perfect. The home itself is gorgeous and has all of the amenities you would need....no leaving the comforts of home behind (you will more than likely gain a few). The property is secluded and the lake access is just steps away where you'll find the perfect sand bottomed swimming beach- no water shoes required. The dock is the ultimate fishing spot for those looking to catch sunnies or small bass, and you can paddle out a little farther to find larger bass. Our nights were spent by the fire overlooking the lake- Danika and William were the perfect hosts and even left us a cute smores kit to enjoy. The beds are SO comfortable (Danika sent me the link so I can buy the pillows) and we appreciated having plenty of towels onsite so we didn't have to bring our own. The location of the cabin is GREAT. We went to Musky Day's in Nevis and Park Rapids is a short 15 minute drive where they have everything you need. Walker, a 30 minute drive is also a great little town to visit with shopping and a new brewery. Tip: On your way to Walker, stop in Akeley to get your picture taken with a two-story Paul Bunyan. We've already planned our fall trip in a few months and I can't wait to come back.
We could not have been more pleased with our stay at this beautiful cabin on Lake Ojibway. -The Cabin: It is an authentic up north cabin with all of the comforts of home. It was spotless, cozy, and offered a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces to relax, nature walk, read, enjoy a meal or glass of wine. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we could possibly need to prepare meals, including a really nice outdoor grill. We especially loved the high tech massage chair! -The Lake: The cabin is located in a beautiful setting on Lake Ojibway. It is very easy to get to from the main road, but it is completely private with no neighbors on either side. There is a small beach area allowing you to walk directly into the lake. It was perfect for kids of all ages to play and swim. And the fishing was phenomenal! Our 12-year old son spent hours at the end of the dock catching a variety of sunfish. The owners provided us with a great variety of ways to get out on the lake. We opted for the paddle both (The Sundolphin 5!) which allowed for faster traveling that I would have thought. We even took it out fishing! -The Area: When we took a break from enjoying the lake, we visited local restaurants. Zorbarz is less than 10 minutes away. We loved the fact that it had an arcade area, allowing the kids to stay entertained, while the adults enjoyed the happy hour. Priceless! (or at least worth the $20 we gave then for the games) We could have easily spent an entire days in Lake Placid. I enjoyed the consignment and boutique shops-my husband the brew pub. There were some great shops for kids as well. My son was thrilled to discover a vintage Spiderman comic book at the nostalgic toy shop. -The Owners: Danika was the perfect hostess. She provided us with very thorough information upon our booking, everything from details related to the cabin to a personally created guide to restaurants in the area. She immediately responded to any question we had. Most important, it was obvious she genuinely wanted us to enjoy our vacation and for the cabin stay to be as easy and comfortable as possible. She has put a lot of thought into what guests might want and need while staying at the cabin. We would for sure book here again, as there is so much to do and yet the nature setting also encourages you to just relax and do nothing.
