This was the perfect alternative to staying at a hotel! It was exactly what we needed for a getaway trip that still allowed for being away from crowds. Imagine a 1 bedroom suite at a country lodge and you'll get the picture. It is a guest cabin built on a neighborhood street so the outdoor isn't private but an occasional neighbor walking by is still better than a crowded hotel. The back patio with the hot tub is mostly enclosed (open to the stars) so no one is watching you there, but you could still be heard. I was hesitant to stay initially due to the comments from other reviewers about this but I did not have any concerns once we were there. The WiFi was slow and spotty which is my only complaint. Only 2 & 1/2 blocks to the main street business area made it a great location. Overall a good place to stay for a trip to wine country. I recommend
Visiting for a quick 2 night wedding anniversary trip. We are generally easy to please and generally prefer a rustic and private setting. The cabin itself is very fun. I’d probably be fine to stay again if this property was better maintained and managed and at a much lower price point. For that rate my expectations were higher. We checked in to an unclean cabin. It has not been serviced and still had wet towels, wash rags and dirty sheets. We informed management and they asked if we could go out for a bit and they’d get it done. It took a little more time but got it cleaned…except for cleaning out the fridge which still had items in it. Interior is host to more bugs than you’d like. The couch is quite old, stained , and worn. The bed was fine other than being very soft , which wasn’t my favorite albeit a Personal preference. The hot tub will power on but the temperature control board is either disabled or locked. The water temp felt like it was in the 80’s and couldn’t be increased rendering it useless for us. The Roku on tv is locked with a pin # and although the tv instructions tell you to use the Roku spectrum app for local channels, a 4 digit pin is required to do so. I asked for the pin but was did not receive any support. I assume they just didn’t know the pin but never did find out.. The outside is poorly kept with weeds, lots of loose limbs, and unkept vegetation, certainly nowhere close to the listing picture.
There are pros and cons. We liked: the walkability of this location to Ottos restaurant and a nice little corner ice house. This is a cute little place for 2. Loved the large shower and the privacy of the hot tub. We took our 2 little dogs and loved the fenced yard. The bed was comfortable. What we hated: it was marginally clean and the hot tub water was gross, and the hot tub panel did not work at all. The back porch was unswept. The rugs in the bathroom were just gross! I didn’t want to use them even with shoes on. The previous people left trash in the bedroom and a fridge full of old food. We always wear shower shoes, but I’d encourage you to bring them! There is an obnoxiously large pet fee per day per animal and when you arrive their is a sign saying no animals on the furniture. I feel like for the amount of money you just made off of me for them to be there, along with the cleaning fee then you can vacuum the couch! It was quite filthy anyway, maybe clean it once in awhile? The most inexcusable thing to me was the level of weeds and tree debris in the yard. I know we just had a terrible hot drought summer, but weeds and debris along with an inoperable dirty hot tub are just inexcusable. If you don’t want to keep it up, hire someone to do it for you. 4/10
The location is perfect! Walking distance from Main St. The place super cozy and comfortable. The only thing to note is that we did found one cockroach and one dog toy under the couch. No big deal for us really. Other than that, great stay!
My husband and I took a trip for our 10-year anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed La Rouge! It’s pretty close to one end of the main drag, although there aren’t particularly good walking conditions (no sidewalk, little bit of a hill, required to walk on the side of the road) until about block away from the house, so keep that in mind when you’re looking at walking distance/ease. The house itself was almost exactly what we were looking for and we LOVED that the bedroom was cool and dark, even after the sun came up. The refrigerator is definitely a small hotel room-sized mini-fridge, so that is also something to keep in mind. The hot tub worked beautifully and it was very private. Great stay and a marvelous time!
Fabulous, adorable and the perfect getaway. Loved it so much I want to live there!!! Loved the walk-in shower, the bed was very comfortable .The only issue we found was the Dorm room size refrigerator but we managed, it was close to main st shopping but we still drove due to how hot it was. Would stay again anytime but I’d bring a cooler for ice.
The refrigerator had a note on it saying out of order, when we called the property manager she seemed put out about getting a replacement so I ask if we could get some ice while they found one, although they did bring ice and a firelog refrigerator was never replaced and we were there for 2 nights
We had a great stay at this spot. Few minor issues with the wifi and a/c, but very promptly addressed by the company - we really, really appreciated that!! Location is fantastic and you can walk to Main Street if desired. We spent a lot of time at the Pacific War Museum that was around the corner. Hot tub worked perfectly and was really nice after walking the museum all afternoon. Enjoyed German food, quick trip to a few wineries and the Japanese garden too. Everything was very accessible from this location. We loved the double shower and log cabin feel. The bed was literally SO comfy I woke up late the day we were supposed to leave. Literally didn’t want to get up out of bed. Might need to know what mattress and topper that is….lol. Thank you for a great stay!
We rented during the week so it was much cheaper and for that we were pleased but had we rented at the weekend rate, we would have been disappointed. Entire property is for sale and apparently the house is vacant and it shows. Fallen leaves and branches were all over the roof of the house on the side of the cabin. Leaves covered the yard and sidewalk of the cabin. I live in the country and used to leaves but they could at least get a yard service in to clean up. Do not plan on a “working vacation” as the internet service was out most of the time and Verizon service was pretty bad in the area. Pros: Quiet street Plenty of parking Interior was clean Close to town Cons: Internet only worked about 20% of the time Exterior was in pretty rough shape Back porch light at door was out Could use some instructions on the cup at a time Keurig
Enjoyed our stay.
Comfortable, clean, provided everything we needed. Easy check in/out.
Very close to downtown. Easy to find. Property was large enough for the two of us. Was hard to relax due to the property next to this one was housed with rowdy college age renters so sitting in the hot tub was not fun listening to loud noise coming from next door. The towels could use some washing as they were stiff and smelled like mildew.
My husband and I spent our honeymoon last year at LaRouge and loved the cottage. It is in a perfect location to walk to main street. We decided we wanted to return for our first anniversary. It did not disappoint us.
