Foresta is located within the boundaries of Yosemite National Park. Now known as an “inholding”, Foresta (Big Meadow) started as a pioneering area. Two ranches (McCauley and Meyers) provided beef, pork, dairy and vegetables to the Yosemite Valley hotels. In the twenties, it was sub-divided and given the name of Foresta. Created as an “artistic” community, musical gatherings were held by the creek. After the Great Depression, many lots were sold for back taxes. Approximately 75 homes were in use, either full time or seasonally, before the 1993 A-Rock fire destroyed most of them. More than half of the homes have now been rebuilt. Fire has been a defining force in this area, showcasing Mother Nature's endless cycles.
Loved that this cozy cabin was located within Yosemite NP. Everything we needed was there to make our stay comfortable. Located off the beaten path so suggest finding your way there before dark!
My wife and I loved staying at this cabin within Yosemite. It's centrally located between Tiago Pass, Yosemite Valley and Mariposa. We visited each in that order and had an amazing vacation. The cabin is very spacious for two and the kitchen and screened in porch are as well; made use of both during our stay. Parking is super close to the door which made unloading / loading a breeze.
We loved our stay. It was a comfortable to come back to after exploring the park. The kitchen was well stocked. We used the cast iron skillet every night and ate on the screened in porch. Buy groceries before entering the park though the Village store seemed to have a lot. There are coolers to use. Be sure to walk down the road and onto the Foresta trail. Going past the small waterfall provides a nice view. Definitely a great place to stay.
We had to change accommodations due to Washburn fire from Wanona hotel and this quiet location was closer to our hiking trails. Nice screened in porch and roomy cabin for two. Modern kitchen and appreciated the literature and Yosemite book for the park. Very happy week at this comfortable cottage!!!
What a cute place! Clean and quiet and private. Just what we wanted. We ate on the screen porch, then sat out at night to watch the Milky Way. Yosemite was bustling, but Oak Wood Cabin was serene. And the kitchen is huge for a small place!
My husband and I decided to go to Yosemite for our 10th anniversary and we really enjoyed this cabin. It was in the park and the location was very quiet. We mostly spent our days at Yosemite Valley, which is about a 20 minute drive away. Cabin has everything we needed for four days and bed was super comfortable. Highly recommend!
Close to Yosemite Valley and Tioga Road. Comfy couch and bed. Nice working kitchen. Loved the screened in porch. There is room to unpack and put away your stuff in both bedroom and bathroom so you don't have to live out of your suitcase if you don't want to. Directions to the cabin were great. Cell service is spotty in the Park so print or screen shot your directions. Owners answered all of my questions quickly. WiFi is not super robust at the cabin, but who cares. Just wanted to watch a movie after a long hike and it was good enough for that. AC will likely have trouble in the hotter months. Not an issue for me, but my hubby had trouble getting to sleep 2 out of our 5 nights there. I will likely be back to Yosemite at least one more time to finish our wish list of hikes. I would stay here again if it is available. Teresa
Lots of room to spread out, with a large kitchen, large living room and outside back porch. Came equiped with everything you would need for the week, from cloths washing detegerent to cooking spices.
Everything was great: wonderful accommodations, convenient to Yosemite Valley, reasonable price for the area. Only downside was that I wish we had been advised in advance about the drought and the request to limit water usage.
Easy to deal with owners/managers. Cabin just as described. It is a great location just outside the Yosemite valley floor. Would recommend to anyone.
