Ennis, Montana
Harris Hideaway is a charming little cabin tucked away in the Gravelly Mountain foothills, 10 miles south of Ennis, Montana. Perfect for two to four people, up to 6, the cabin has one bedroom, one bath and a sleeping loft as well as a Q sofa sleeper. Sit back and enjoy the stunning view of the Madison Range and Madison River Valley from the deck. The cabin is well located for the fly fishermen in your group as the river and several fishing access sites are only minutes away. The quaint western town of Ennis offers shopping, dining, and golfing as well as a lovely library with free wifi. Wildlife in the area include pronghorn antelope, whitetail and mule deer, elk, bear, mountain lion, big horn sheep and moose. Head south to Yellowstone National Park to view wolves, buffalo and grizzly bears.
House is old and needs sealed up. Western conifer seed bugs. Relative of a stink bug. Soon as we turned on the heat. They came from everywhere. They said it was a Montana thing. I think it was just way too easy for them to get in. Had to spend the first night in a hotel. No one offered to reimburse us. Also, millipedes. It would have been great if not for the bugs. We saw a couple of mentions of bugs in the reviews but never expected the sheer volume of them, bugs on the bed or find them crawling on us while watching tv. That was our experience. Hope yours is better.
This beautiful cabin is appropriately called a Hideaway, because it's a retreat from the world. To sit on the spacious shaded porch overlooking the Madison River and the Rockies in the evening with silence but the wind blowing is heaven. The cabin is fully equipped with more than you'll need, except food of course, and we were impressed with the quality of everything, including the attention to minute detail; even a fully filtered pitcher of water in the fridge. I could go on about the wonderful shower, including the nearly instant hot water from a water heater that never seemed to run low. We slept in both upstairs and downstairs bedrooms and the upstairs loft was my favorite, partly because I could open the windows wide and let the cool wind blow head to toe. My sleep was amazing. We cooked out twice on the downstairs porch. The gas grill was clean, is in good shape, and there was an extra propane can. I turned the rig around so I could grill while facing the mountains, but I replaced it such that they'll never know ;) Nothing was broken. The washer/dryer are in great condition and were such a bonus. Disregard the ominous notes on the fridge about what to do when the wifi goes out. Simply unplug and replug the 5 plugs in the power strip behind the TV and wait a couple minutes. Even the dishes and utensils are nice. The owners have a beautiful vacation home in this cabin, and it's a tremendous blessing that they share it with others. It felt like our own home within a couple days, so after 8 days we didn't want to leave. Careful care was taken in the cleanliness of the entire cabin. Thank you!! We didn't wash a single dish or pan before we used them. Don't buy coffee filters. You don't need them. Ever. Watch your head walking downstairs or upstairs. If you're not paying attention, each direction holds its own mercilessly unyielding wooden beam situated horizontally across the top of your head. Fair warning. If you're looking to get away from everything except an occasional beautiful animal (we saw a magnificent antelope in the front and some deer in the back), here's my recommendation: I give this cabin and the owners my very highest rating. Ever.
beautiful view in a quiet neighborhood!
We thoroughly enjoyed the stay, and the location was top-notch. It's just close enough to town to grab groceries as needed. We enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the wildlife, including Prarie dogs, Antelope, Rabbits, and even a Badger. I can only imagine what it would be like to live here all the time.
House is wonderfully located to enjoy peace and quiet. We saw wildlife from the deck. Nice scenic drive to Yellowstone. House had all the amenities to make cooking meals easy. We would definitely stay here again!
We loved spending time on porch overlooking Madison River valley. The town of Ennis was fun to visit.
Amazing view of mountains does not begin to describe the view from deck. Every hour the colors are changing. Excellent food in town. Did I mention fishing?
Great location...quiet and peaceful! Awesome property manager...very responsive.
Kathy was so easy to work with, the property had everything we needed and she responded to all our questions quickly.
My husband and I were delighted with our stay at the Madison River cabin. Everything we needed was on the main floor. It was a comfortable and relaxing stay.
