Travel along the Mt. Hood Scenic Highway for a stay at this charming home right on the Sandy River. This designer-owned getaway is a real jewel in the woods with bright colors, heated bathroom floor tiles, and a large deck overlooking the river. Perfect for two seeking a romantic retreat, you'll find tall ceilings, lots of windows, and a classic style in the living room. A cozy couch is positioned in front of the wood stove for warming up on chilly nights and there's also a flatscreen TV and free WiFi. A large wooden deck has a grill for evenings preparing meals and dining al fresco, as well as offering scenic views of the Sandy River. Sit outside on the deck with your morning coffee or lay down a mat and do some yoga stretches in the evening.
The compact kitchen may have a small footprint, but it's big in style, with granite countertops and everything you'll need to create delicious vacation meals! Start the day with hearty bowls of oatmeal and finish the day with baked salmon and broccoli for a special candlelight dinner. And although there is no dishwasher, you'll be able to wash and dry together, talking about the day's adventures and making vacation memories. When it's time for bed, you'll find a cuddly bed with a memory foam mattress.
Located about two miles from Welches, and over 42 miles from Portland, this charming cabin in the woods is tucked under towering firs and directly on the Sandy River. Once you are ready to get out and about, you'll love the location of this Mt. Hood cabin! It's in a quiet neighborhood, steps away from the Wildwood Recreation Site, a 680-acre park with many trails, picnic areas, and old-growth forest surrounded by the Mount Hood National Forest. The main trails at this site - Cascade Streamwatch and The Wetlands trails let hikers explore the area's natural stream and wetland ecosystems in a breathtaking, scenic setting.
During winter, you'll have your pick of ski resorts - the closest being Mt. Hood Skibowl at 13 miles away, but Timberline is only a 30-minute drive, and Mt. Hood Meadows is a 45-minute drive northwest. Closer to home, there's snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the National Forest lands. On nights you don't feel like cooking, the Rendezvous Grill is about a mile down the road in Welches for fried Willapa Bay oysters and rib-eye steak with red onion and bacon jam. But you may just be tempted to stay home most nights and enjoy sunsets and cookouts out on the deck.

We both really enjoyed our stay, the cabin was very clean and organized and just the right size for romantic getaway. The wood burning stove was amazing and kept the place warm without making the place too hot (we stayed in December). Having the ability to walk down to the river was very nice and even better was being able to open a window and listen to the water. We will be looking to stay here again in the summer.
Such a sweet little place with everything you'd need for a single/couple or two good friends. Only downside (not the fault of the property) are the two property owners who has obstructed the trail so you can't get through for a long hike along the river. What a shame!
Clean, quiet, and exactly what we were looking for. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed and it was nice having a grill to use. Awesome location and loved listening to the river.
Only left the house once. Mostly sat by the fire reading and writing. This was a personal retreat and this place was perfect. Quiet and peaceful.
My boyfriend and I just finished our stay at Pappy's cabin. The location was VERY clean and cozy. Our only complaint was that we were not able to have our friends stay with us for the night after a long day of snowboarding on the mountain. Everything else was lovely!
This house was very quiet and next to a river. It came well stocked and had a nice wood burning stove. Everything was clean when I arrived. I will be back. One thing that was not good was that the water heater did not work on the 2nd and 3rd day so I was forced to take extremely cold showers in already 15 degree weather.
Quaint, super clean and the location is so secluded even with neighbors!
Comfy cabin on the river with big trees! Near hikes and groceries. Loved it!
We enjoyed our stay. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. Very pretty setting. Only item I can even remotely comment as slightly negative was the lack of any water pressure. Otherwise a great stay! We would definitely book this site again.
We spent two nights at Pappy’s Cabin and enjoyed the sound of the River and the quiet neighborhood. The cabin is well appointed and squeaky clean. Would appreciate a chair in the living room. Would recommend.
Such a great getaway weekend. Super clean, peaceful, and loved listening to the river at night. Definitely will be back, thanks!!!
Cabin was perfect...very clean (even the gas grill!), quiet, and well maintained. Kitchen was stocked with what we needed. This is my second stay at Pappy's Cabin and would come back again and again.
Pappy's was a very nice place exactly as described. The sandy river is a few hundred feet away. It's a perfect place for a couple. We would stay again.
This is a very cute cabin and it was nice and clean. Except for the dishes. Guests are expected to wash their own dishes, so(as you can imagine) they didn't do a great job. Of the 4 dishes I used, 3 were visibly dirty. There are also little unpleasant notes all over the place. Making sure that you understand that you will be charged for any misstep (like not doing the dishes, not putting the trash out to the curb, etc). Also, when I tried to watch TV it said that too many people were using the account. Come on, spring the $4.50 a month to get 4 users at a time. Anyway, it's a very lovely spot and quiet too.
Sweet little getaway in the woods. Has everything you need including a riverfront seat to the sounds of the River. We left the window open at night for a “built in” sound machine. Great little spot for two.
We enjoyed the stay, very peaceful and easy to get to the mountain.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this enchanting little cabin in the woods. We had a wonderful barbecue dinner out on the deck. The sounds of the river was so peaceful. The house is well appointed and very comfortable. thank you for sharing your home. We had a wonderful time.
We had a lovely time celebrating part of our 50th wedding anniversary at Pappy’s. The place was spotless. The housekeeper was just finishing up when we arrived. She was so welcoming and friendly! Give her a raise!! Positives: clean as can be, nice location to various activities, bed was fairly comfortable, fun firepit for s’mores which we did last night. The sound of the river from the bedroom window at night was lovely. Negatives: 1) Checkout is 10 am! Earliest checkout we’ve ever had. I wrote to vacasa asking for late check out since it was our anniversary but no reply. 2) You have to stand on the deck to see the river, Everytime you sit down, the view is obstructed. A wide opening with stairs off the deck going down to the back trail down to the river would provide a much better view from the deck. 3) The neighbors right to the left of us had removed most of the undergrowth between their house and the river, and subsequently had a much better view of the river which is why most people rent along the river. The trail to the river could be cleared better too. 4) Inside Pappy’s Cabin is a very large framed picture of another cabin nearby called Bob’s River Retreat. It looks sooooo much nicer and has a beach area on the river with chairs to sit in. That’s more what I envisioned at Pappy’s and that’s what was missing. I’d recommend anyone looking at Pappy’s consider Bob’s River Retreat instead! Pricing is very similar!
Pappy’s cabin was perfect for the two of us. It is a short drive from the Portland area yet feels so far away once you arrive. It was a relaxing and refreshing weekend as we were able to unplug from the regular grind and just soak in the sights and sounds of nature. It rained on us the whole time so we weren’t able to enjoy the fire pit, but other than that it was an amazing weekend. The sound of the river fills the house if you open the windows and it is so peaceful. I highly recommend staying here .
This was the cleanest vacation rental that we have ever stayed in! You could hear the roar of the river and the rain on the roof which makes for a serene stay. Thank you!
