This quaint and quiet cabin instantly feels like home and is in a scenic location close to many interesting historical and geographical sites.
It was a charming, homey, unique cabin in a beautiful setting. Very quiet and peaceful.
The Crooked Cabin was an absolute perfect stay for a weekend at Geode Fest! The location was great. Close enough to a few towns to have access to restaurants and necessities, and still far enough away to be peaceful, quiet, and safe. The cabin is extremely clean and comfortable. The bed was amazingly comfortable! The kitchen was stocked with everything you need to cook! I didn't have an issue with a sulfur smell from the shower as others have mentioned. Shower was great and smelled fine! Plenty of extra blankets, towels, and fans tucked away should you need them. Superb communication with the host! She is friendly, knows the area, and is a kind hearted soul! The cabin grounds are great! The river is right across the street, and you can hear the frogs talking at night. There's a small creek right next to the cabin that you can walk, and find a lot of geodes easily! This will definitely be my go-to lodging whenever I go back to the area!
Overall, I believe the host does their best to dress the place up, but it is an older cabin, and the biggest issue I had was it felt and smelled like a musty grandparent house equipped with flea market furniture. That being said, you will have everything you need, and you can appreciate that! REALLY, you can!It was clean, with hot water, a fridge, a decent bed, and clean sheets, but sleep at the foot due to the slope in the house. There are a ton of good DVDs because there are three tv channels, so we watched old favorites, which was great. It was like a walk back in time to grandmother's house, and all in all, we learned to appreciate the little cabin. It reminded us of where we once lived many moons ago, but the musty smell was our biggest regret. Definitely a hundred-dollar-a-night stay in this world.
Sweet little hideaway that holds a certain charm for those needing a rest and to sit on the swing and watch that river roll. Perfectly priced and with everything you need.
Perfect, fun place for a small family vacation.
Quaint older cabin, very clean, nicely decorated, very relaxing. Enjoyed watching the Mississippi River traffic. Barges, trains and various waterfowl. Hope to stay again when in the area!
Very good. Easy to live in. Great atmosphere. Well supplied...maybe a few more trash bags? Would definitely rent again.
Clean, comfortable and accessible to everything I needed.
This cabin is full of charm and fun for a weekend away. Julie was great to work with and everything was clean and in good working order!
We just got home from our 5 night stay in this adorable cabin. It was clean, well stocked, cozy, and full of quirky character. We loved it. The owner is friendly and charming. Hope to return for another stay.
Julie was great in quickly communicating all the details we needed. The cabin is charming, we loved being on Mississippi River, and it was nice to be together as a family.
I enjoyed my stay immensely. The property owner was great to work with and the cabin is perfect for a peaceful weekend getaway. I would definitely stay again. Just a ‘heads up’ to any one staying that’s tall, the back door and kitchen ceiling in that area are fairly low. My friend that’s over 6’ had to duck. I’m 5’6” and I did not. The floors are a kinda uneven and wonky but the place is so charming that you quickly get used to it. I loved the close proximity to the river. It was exactly what I needed. Thank you.
For a getaway from all the hustle and bustle really nice place
This unique house was a great little getaway place. It had everything we needed for cooking, sleeping, and relaxing. Great location to spend time in Nauvoo, Keokuk, Hamilton, Carthage, and other quaint towns near by. Driving the river road was relaxing too.
We like looking at the River
This place is absolutely charming. The views are amazing. The swing was our favorite spot. I loved all the notes around the cabin explaining how things worked. Definitely hope to return again.
House is just like the listing. No surprises. Julie was great. Gave some suggestions for things to do in the area. Enjoyed the stay :)
It was just as advertised, no surprises. Comfortable, well located and had everything I needed for weekend stay. And river was lovely with nice sunsets and lots birds to watch/photograph.
We had a wonderful stay at the cozy cabin located right across from the Mississippi River. It was fully stocked with everything to make it feel like home. The floors were a little wonky but that’s what gives it character I mean with the cabin being over 100 years old. We had a wonderful time and will definitely love to stay here again. Thank you Julie for sharing you little cabin!
This is a very cute and quirky little cabin. The location is awesome with the Mississippi River right across the road no trains close by to disturb your sleep. Would definitely stay here again
Very nice and clean the bed is the mostcomfortable bed I’ve ever slept in the view of the river is great
Julie's crooked cabin is just so adorable and cozy! Outside and inside. Located right across from the river, it has beautiful views. One thing that really impressed me is that she goes out of her way to provide every single thing you may need! We just had to get groceries, but heck, she even provides condiments, jellies, sugar, sweeteners, some coffee if you drink it, grill lighters,, wood,, etc.. She let some children of some friends of ours sit on and take pictures with her beautiful horse! We got to go up and take a peek at her beautiful flower garden. We will definitely stay here many more times!
