Country Delight originally stood in Northern Kentucky. The timbers were dismantled, numbered, brought to Texas, and reconstructed on the current site shortly after 2000. The right room or pen currently used as the dining room, likely dates from the late 1700's and the left pen, the current living room, is guessed to be added on during the 1800's. This type of double pen structures was also known as a saddle bag. The dining room's south wall boasts an old door, likely the original door to the original one room home. The living room has a spacious fireplace (seasonal use only) with a crane which accommodates hanging pots for cooking.
The space between the pens known as the dog trot was typically covered but left open to the elements on each side. Dot trots originally were outdoor living spaces between the pens used for under cover storage and a place for the dogs to bed down. When rebuilt, the dog trot, or open area between the pens , was enclosed to incorporate a functional stairway to the upper level 2 bedrooms and a bath which were also added at that time.

As part of the reconstruction on its current site, the shed roof was attached to the west side of the house to include a bedroom which adjoins the living room, the bath, and the large farm kitchen. Another addition was the east-facing long front porch, which provides a pleasant place to sit on mild afternoons and evenings, affording pastoral views of the countryside.

The floors throughout are old wide floor boards milled from the early beams that glow with decades of life being lived and loving care.
The gardens surrounding the structure display many native and perennial plants. Diverse species of birds, especially hummingbirds, are regular visitors to the site. The adjacent pasture is home to several dozen sheep and donkey (Ida-Belle).

This historic and restful home is situated on 2 acres 8 miles west of Fredericksburg, Tx and is frequently enjoyed by many domestic and international visitors.

The cabin was old with tremendous history. It was awesome. We sat on the porch and watched the full moon and stars at night. It was relaxing and peaceful. I loved the goats and we fed the birds right from the porch. We also saw a red fox in the pasture. It was lovely.

This was a peaceful, lovely cabin for my husband and I as we spent a weekend exploring the area and porch sitting. The hosts were delightful and helpful. We loved being close to their small herd of sheep, Ida Belle and flock of birds.

We really enjoyed our stay. A very quiet, clean, well set up, secluded house for the family. We cooked a lot of meals in the big kitchen and enjoyed an evening fire and games in the living room. The house has a TV, but we never turned it on. Also a beautiful porch to watch the sun rise and the birds play while enjoying a cup of coffee.

The cabin was magical. We felt like we had stepped back in time, but with all the comforts of today. Absolutely beautiful land. The beds were comfortable, cabin was very clean, and the A/Cs worked very well. Pleasantly surprised to be able to park car in barn so that it wasn’t so hot when we headed into town. We’d all love to go back and will stay here again.

Tub wouldn’t drain, owner dropped off Drano. Coffee pot didn’t work. Owner dropped off vinegar. Kitchen pots pans and utensils were sparse and very bad condition. Owner dropped off used skillet and knife both should be donated. Asking me to fix rental problems is nuts. Best part we’re bugs. Notified owner all of this and left the second day after paying for three.

The property is absolutely gorgeous and relaxing. The home is charming and beautifully maintained. While the home is historic, so were the beds, linens and towels...embarrassingly so. We would have enjoyed our stay much more had the beds not been trundle beds with thin mattresses and linens/towels not dated back tot he 70s and 80's. This had a major impact in our ability to relax and re-energize.

The pictures don't do the property justice! The property transports you back to the 1700's, but with modern amenities and comfort. The house was extremely clean and comfortable and the grounds were beautifully landscaped with native plants and pathways. The nearest neighbors were the sheep grazing in the nearby fields. Perfect place to get away to the country and yet be downtown in 9 minutes!!
