Reservations Welcomed for 2026 !!

We are looking forward to another beautiful season hosting guests at our Moonridge Cottage, with the continued anticipation of providing you with a fun and unique place to stay while exploring the Harpers Ferry area, or just hanging out and relaxing. Reservations for a stay at our cottage must be made at least 72 hours prior to check-in time (3pm) on the arrival date. We continue to be very grateful for all of the wonderful folks that have spent time with us these last 10 years - and would be happy to have you all come back in the future. We will do our very best to assure that our cabin is perfect for your stay. We intend to keep our nightly rate constant at $185, regardless of which nights you choose to stay. Our minimum stay is TWO NIGHTS. We do have a few simple policies regarding dogs staying at Moonridge - please read them in this description below.
We continue to offer our mountain home as the perfect place for your long weekend of peace and quiet in nature while enjoying the clean, cozy comforts of home.

Moonridge Cottage is a lovely rustic yet modern cabin just 90 min from DC, Baltimore and Northern Virginia, tucked away at the top of the Blue Ridge Mountains of West Virginia in the Shannondale neighborhood. We invite you to schedule a long weekend in these beautiful mountains and celebrate the beauty of nature's offerings - hiking, fishing, rafting, kayaking, sightseeing, or just relaxing in our cozy home, especially on the large screened porch.
Moonridge is the mountain home of Anne and Paul Eggers and is available for vacation rental during spring, summer and fall (April-early December). This eclectic home (recently dubbed “quirky cool”) is decorated with colorful touches and specially chosen works of art which make it feel warm and welcoming. From your first walk into this charming home to your departure drive back down the mountain, we hope you will make many happy memories here with friends and family. The cabin is all on one level, with only one short step into the entryway from the stone path. It has hardwood flooring and area rugs, no carpet.
Two bedrooms (master with queen bed; second bedroom with two twins). Some small toys in twin bed room. Huge screened porch with porch swing, table and 4 chairs, and new (2023) loveseat/swivel chairs grouping - great spot for morning coffee, evening glass of wine, watching the local wildlife and sunset over the distant Shenandoah River. You are welcome to plug-in the lighted stars, colorful globe, and the little water fountain. The kitchen is well-equipped -new refrigerator (2020) and electric oven (2021), Keurig coffee maker with K-cup assortment provided (2025)), cookware, cookie sheets, cutlery set, blender, hand mixer, toaster, microwave, Crock Pot, roasting pan, large salad bowl, all dishes/glassware/silverware, small Brita water pitcher, Cuisinart waffle iron, and is stocked with basic staples. If you choose to eat-in you are welcome to bring your own food. We are located 20 minutes UP the mountain from the nearest restaurants and grocery stores of Harper’s Ferry and Charles Town, so please keep this in mind when planning your meals.

The main living area has comfortable sofa and chairs, new small (2022) combo TV/DVD with ChromeCast for streaming from your devices on our TV, Xfinity TV, and a DVD library of cool movies. Enjoy our vaulted ceiling with three new, crystal clear skylights, and a Jotul wood stove for those chilly spring/fall evenings. Wood is abundant on our lot, and there are also a couple of woodpiles and a saw and hatchet in the lower crawl space for you to use if you wish. Our home can be heated by a gas furnace, if needed. Our bedrooms have small space heaters to keep you warm at night, if needed. There are five new lighted ceiling fans throughout the cabin, one in the main room, one in each bedroom, and two indoor/outdoor lighted fans on the porch. We have added a keyless-entry door, sliding kitchen window, and two energy efficient air conditioners located in the main room and master bedroom. Our washer and dryer are also new (2025 and 2019). The cabin was freshly painted in the Spring of 2017. Other amenities include hair dryer, umbrellas, Dry-Stix, 2 yoga mats and blocks, Pak 'N Play crib and sheets, a pair of Leki hiking poles, and Weber charcoal grill with charcoal chimney - use of charcoal lighter fluid or other accelerant is prohibited. Charcoal is provided. We recently added 2 comfy folding camp chairs for those who love to sit outside, and 2 vintage teak lawn chairs. We have a small Magnus chord organ and a small steel tongue drum (2021) for our musical guests, a kalimba, and we have a small tuned guitar hanging on the wall. All linens (kitchen, bathroom and bedroom) are included - if you are planning any outdoor water activities (e.g., rafting or tubing), bring your own towels for that, please do not use the cabin towels.
We have excellent Internet and WiFi service at Moonridge, so you stay connected even out here in the woods. Network and passcode are on cards that we keep in the bedrooms and in our Welcome notebook.
We’ve been often asked about the quality of our well water...not only is it potable, it is very delicious, and completely safe.

THERE IS NO OUTDOOR BURNING OF ANY KIND ALLOWED ON OUR PROPERTY, and Moonridge is strictly a No Smoking home. Firearms are ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED at Moonridge. We do not have local trash service as we cannot tempt “critters” in the wild, and we ask that our guests pack out their trash, or if that’s not possible, that it be left inside the cabin (or in the crawl space) for us to pick up after you leave. We also have a dedicated recycling bin - you can leave your recycles, or take them out with you. Usual check-in time is 3pm, check-out is 12noon, but these times can be flexible.

Area attractions: explore Harpers Ferry National Historic Park, the Appalachian Trail and ATC Visitor Center in town, Charles Town Races and Casino, Antietam National Battlefield, Historic Shepherdstown, fishing, tubing, canoeing, white water rafting and kayaking on the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. Zipline and treetop course nearby at Harpers Ferry Adventure Park, unique local dining, shopping, wineries and breweries, and antiquing in quaint historic towns (Shepherdstown and Charles Town, WV, Leesburg, VA, and Frederick, MD). Hiking and biking along river roads and the C&O Canal, or simply relax and enjoy your escape from the outside world. Kids might enjoy the Leesburg Animal Park in Leesburg, VA. For auto sports fans, we are about 20 minutes from Summit Point Motorsport Park. We are only 2 miles from the Mountain Lake Club, home to a 55-acre lake that provides beach time, boating and kayaking all for a day pass fee.

RE: Handicapped Accessible - The paved driveway is quite steep, but parking at the top is fairly level. The stone path to the house from the driveway is not smooth but is lighted with small solar lights. There is one stone step going into the cabin - guests with walkers will be OK, cottage is honestly not wheelchair-friendly. Bathroom doorway and bathroom itself are narrow.
This is a very prop-your-feet-on-the-furniture spot, for making yourself totally at home. If you're squeamish about about stink bugs and little spiders, this is probably not the place for you. The cabin was built in the 1940's, and altho it’s far from a glitzy hotel room, we are sure that it’s clean, casual setting is the perfect place for relaxing, recharging, and refreshing body and soul. It's about 800 square feet, and with only one bathroom, more than 4 people will be very tight.
RE: Kid-friendly - Kids love building forts and rock cairns in the surrounding woods (cabin sits on 1/2 acre of woods), sleeping on the porch in summertime (BYO sleeping bags!) and wading/rock-hopping in the Shenandoah River, which is a short drive from Moonridge. There may be wildlife visible from the screened-in porch and all the windows. Kids love the Moonridge Scavenger Hunt that awaits them.
Smoking is NOT allowed. NO smoking on the screened porch either.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at no extra charge, and must be on leash at all times outside the cabin. We also require that they be crated when left alone in our home, and they are not allowed on the furniture or on the beds. No other pets are allowed. We offer a small water dish and small leash. When booking your stay, please indicate that you will be bringing your pup(s) along with you.

We are currently into our eleventh year of hosting guests, and are excited about welcoming you in the coming season. We did appreciate that especially the years of 2020-22 our guests were seeking a clean, safe, and secure place to spend time off ....that is what we offered, and continue to offer, to everyone. It’s our pleasure to open our door wide to new adventurers, and our “old” friends alike. See you at Moonridge!

Moonridge Cottage is absolutely wonderful! From the moment we arrived, we knew our stay was going to be lovely. The pictures just don't do it justice. It's so welcoming, cosy, and homey. You can tell Moonridge has been loved for many, many years - it's got such a peaceful and happy feeling. Anne and Paul provided so many little extras, like wine and coffee cake and extra toiletries, and I loved the large selection of teas! They made our anniversary stay so special. The cottage was super clean, and we enjoyed sitting on the porch wrapped in blankets on chilly mornings and watching the deer. It's a great location to go exploring nature and a close drive to the Appalachian Trail. We loved everything about it, and will definitely be back. Thank you, Anne and Paul, for sharing Moonridge with us and making our anniversary special!

We had a wonderful stay at the Moonridge Cottage. It had everything we needed and even a little extra. Annie even had an amazing homemade coffee cake waiting for the adults and a scavenger hunt for the kids. The kids loved playing outside, building forts, and creating a music with the instruments in the cabin. It was the perfect relaxing getaway our family needed. Definitely recommend and will be coming back!

It was a Beautiful house and the porch was really cool. I definitely felt spoiled with all the little snacks left for us :) The dogs did lile the porch but i think they'd rather be outside and able to run around so if we come back we will be leaving the dogs behind. It just reinforced our urge to have our own cabin in the woods.

Words can’t describe how incredibly happy I am to have found this gem of a cabin. I will undoubtably be returning. It’s just the right size to be cozy while still allowing my family of 4 to spread out comfortably. It’s situated deep enough in the wood to be private but close enough to the main attractions of town. Anne is an amazing host, who has thought of every little thing to make us comfortable and feel welcomed in her beautifully decorated home. She has really created a space in this busy world to relax and slow down and just enjoy the mountains.

Nestled up in the mountains of WV, this quiet refuge from civilization is only 25 minutes from Harper's Ferry and a few hundred feet from the Appalachian Trail. If you're not lucky enough to enjoy a rainy afternoon on the enclosed porch, the cabin itself is filled (inside and out) with delightful little curiosities to discover. The hosts also created a scavenger hunt for the young ones that was as much fun for the adults as the children. The nearest full service grocery store is about 25-30 minutes away, but the hosts graciously a provided a lovely bottle of wine, plenty of coffee, tea, and a few food staples. We spent three nights in this charming getaway and loved every minute. Highly recommended for small families or couples.

The cottage was just what we were looking for! Slightly more costly than an equivalent hotel room, but - oh my - was it ever worth it. Easily room for the 4 of us, and we thoroughly enjoyed the large, comfy sctreened in porch. So. very. peaceful. And the hosts were exceedingly accomodating and real to interact with. We would prioritize the cottage if we had reason to stay in Harper's Ferry again.

Have done dozens and dozens of short-term rentals. Anne and Paul are about the most dedicated owners I have encountered. Beautiful, extremely well-stocked kitchen, good beds and about anything you’d need really complement the wonderful peacefulness enveloping the cottage. Anne and Paul (Anne has hiked the AT, in full) did amazing things to make this visit with my AT-hiking wife a very memorable time. In reading the guestbook, this is how all clients are treated. I encourage you to visit this charming place and see what’s in store for you. Thank you, Anne and Paul. The dedication to sharing wonderful experiences is evident.

The Mountainridge cabin is the perfect blend of rustic and comfort. Anne and Paul have added so many nice whimsical touches to the cabin…a feast for the senses. In addition they have outfitted the cabin with every comfort for an enjoyable stay. We felt pampered by homemade pecan coffee cake and a bottle of wine upon arrival. Even our two mini dachshunds had special attention. The mountain air, surrounding woods and nature made for a perfect Blue Ridge getaway. We are returning home refreshed and relaxed.

We would like to express our amazing appreciation for the wonderful getaway at the Moonridge cabin this past weekend. The responsive communication, welcoming small gifts and personal touch made our stay one of the best getaways we have experienced thru VRBO in many years. We spent most of our days out and about exploring the park, the great wilderness, bike path and local towns & restaurants. The highlight of ALL our time during our stay is coming back to the comfy cabin, the wonderful porch, and a great cup of hot coffee. We would like to personally thank Anne & Paul for going well beyond others in making our stay VERY special and well beyond anything we have ever experienced at other VRBO rentals. Thinking we just may have to come back :)

We stayed at the Moonridge Cottage for Thanksgiving 2024. First and foremost the hospitality that was shown by Anne was unlike anything we have ever had in any stay. The snacks, wine and health bars were so appreciated. The cabin was so cozy and had everything you could ever want, including musical instruments for the makings of a family band. We had a wonderful hike on the Appalachian Trail which was so close to the cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back in the near future. Thank you Anne for everything.

We have rented many VRBO properties but never has one felt so homey! Every room was like a museum - taking in all of the decorations!!! So many unexpected things . . . musical instruments, games, puzzles, even a scavenger hunt for my 12 yr old granddaughter! The fridge was stocked with many staples (ketchup, mustard, reg and decaf coffee, creamer) AND a homemade coffee cake! Anne's thoughtfullness, instructions added to our experience. We came back East for a wedding and to see family, and with every event we couldn't wait to get back home! Thank you so much, Anne!!!!

The Cabin was perfect for our stay and Anne was an amazing host, truly one of the best we've ever had. Our stay came personalized and included a scavenger hunt for our kids- they truly enjoyed exploring all of the fairy-garden grounds and keeping watch for deer and wild turkeys in the forest (as did our pup). The screened in front porch is perched in the tree-canopy and gives the house a tree-house vibe with perfect spots for bug-free reading on a fresh rainy evening. Kitchen is well equipped with everything we needed for dinners in and was better stocked with staples (condiments, oils, coffee/filters, etc) than most cabins we've been to. Wonderful escape for a long weekend! We are grateful we came here.

We had a wonderful 3-night stay at Moonridge. A cute cabin in a great location. Pretty much everything that you need is there except food if you are cooking in. We spent a lot of time on the screened in front porch playing games, morning coffee/tea, watching the deer that hung out in the area and just relaxing. It rained a couple afternoons during our stay and the one afternoon I just curled up on the chair and fell asleep listening to the rain in the trees. The host Anne is awesome! Very accommodating and welcoming. We very much enjoyed the coffee cake and the wine she left for us. We’ll return to Moonridge for our next trip to Harpers Ferry or just an R&R get-a-way. Highly recommended.
