New Braunfels, Texas
Listed as one of "Ten Great Vacation Rentals Vetted by Texas Monthly Writers", this is a peaceful, cozy 1930's waterfront cottage. The expansive back yard leads to your private Guadalupe River (Lake Dunlap) shoreline, ideal for kayaking, paddle-boarding, fishing, swimming, and wildlife viewing. Kayaks and many other amenities are included -- just bring yourselves!
Need more sleeping space Please inquire about our recently renovated RV on the property, which will accommodate up to 6 guests (Total of 10 guests on the property) for an extra charge.
The cabin is 480 Square feet and built in 1930. A queen, twin, and sofa sleeper allow for a good nights sleep. This is simple studio style therefore all in one room space. A fully stocked kitchen provides the backdrop for a gourmet meal or just BBQ outside in covered BBQ pavilion. Books, Direct TV, WIFI, various DVD's, and board games provide indoor entertainment.
***This being a rustic cabin, it has very little modern day insulation. Please expect that on very hot summer days, the inside temperature may reach the upper 70's, and on very cold nights, may reach the 50's, despite our AC and heaters.***
This area of water is called Lake Dunlap, however the dam broke in 2019, leaving the gently flowing Guadalupe river. Due to extremely limited boat access now, the river is peaceful and quiet, perfect for paddle boarding, swimming, and kayaking. From our dock, the river reaches a depth of 30 feet.
Our dock is large enough for chairs, laying out or running and jumping into the water. We have a grassy “beach type” area in between our backyard and the river. Nearer the cabin, there is a propane grill, a smaller charcoal grill, and a huge offset smoker. All are under a covered pavilion with table and chairs close by.
The back porch and long yard with shady tall trees greet your view of Lake Dunlap. One fire pit with moveable chairs allows for comfort during colder temperatures. Most of your time will be spent here. It's absolutely gorgeous.
This is a great place for pets, but it's not completely enclosed, so bring your leash.

Would have preferred more secluded
Good
Small rustic cabin, but huge property with tons to do. The water level for the river is low and most properties around us couldn't even access the water, but this cabin has great access to the water with a floating pier. Loved our stay there.
Small cabin on the Guadeloupe. Good for one or two people. Fantastic outside facilities.
Overall this was a short getaway. The place is small but very conviently place. They allow dogs so it was nice for them
This was great rental to have during the covid outbreak. With the tubing rentals being closed we still had our on spot on the river, with amazing outside space and activities at this cabin to keep everyone happy and having fun.
It was perfect for us as a couple. Probably best for singles or couples, or small family who spends a lot of time outdoors. And the outdoors here is truly magnificent!! Expansive pecan-shaded lot, stunning sunset and sunrise views on the water, amazing birdwatching, waterfront location with numerous water activities and equipment provided. The neighborhood is friendly, peaceful, great for walking. A fun discovery was the Althauser Bauernhof microfarm stand a block away on Potthast Drive where we bought fresh eggs and homemade dog treats. The cabin is conveniently located an easy drive down FM 725 to New Braunfels. There is a convenience store ~1 mile away and Walgreens ~2 miles away. During our stay we floated the Comal and the Guadalupe rivers, and visited Gruene for shopping and the Guadalupe River state park for fishing and a picnic. We loved the large charcoal grill where we cooked dinner several nights under the new shaded outdoor cooking patio, and enjoyed the floats, air pumps, folding chairs, beach towels, fishing poles, and so much more that is provided! We like to cook so were pleased to find the kitchen well-stocked with most of the cookware and dinnerware that we needed, as well as various spices/seasonings, flour, sugar, salt, pepper mill, tea bags, coffee maker, coffee filters, toaster, microwave. Because of CoVid we came prepared to eat-in even more than usual, and admittedly I did not look very hard because we brought our own, but I did not see a good nonstick pan, a large knife for chopping, or steak knives. I have not found these to be commonly provided items in vacation rentals so this is not a negative, just a heads up to potential renters. Especially nice touches: LED string lights that safely and beautifully illuminate the path all the way down to the river, bird feeders (numerous cardinals and warblers visited), really comfy bed linens and pillows, quality grilling utensils hanging within hands’ reach of the pit, cushioned chairs for relaxing on the porch. Especially appreciated were the extra conveniences provided such as dog bowls, charcoal and lighter fluid, shampoo and conditioner, mosquito spray, and a full bag of ice in the freezer. Thank you :) Amy responded promptly and professionally to all of our correspondences from initial inquiry to checkout.
Had a great time at this cozy cabin. Stocked with everything you need. Loved spending time hanging out in the backyard! Thank you Amy!
We had a very restful time which was exactly what we wanted. The property is excellent. Long grassy yard leading to the water. Fire pit. Hammock. Recreational equipment. Great front and back porches. Cabin is a studio and for two people worked well. Our weather was cold one day and warm another day and there was adequate heating/cooling to be quite comfortable. Only problem was the bathroom —it is very small, toilet a little cantankerous and towels were stored well out of my reach.
Great place with a great owner!
