Grand Lake, Colorado
Get away from it all at this gorgeous cabin retreat in an Aspen grove, right next to Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park! This tranquil home began its first life as a ranger’s cabin, and was moved to this location and updated to fit up to 8 people with 2 bedrooms, a loft, and a spacious living room with pull-out sofa. Warm your feet by the fireplace after a long day of skiing, or sit on the back patio to watch the sun set over the mountains after hiking… there’s nowhere else as peaceful!
The cabin is a rustic retreat in a peaceful neighborhood above Shadow Mountain Lake, with details and beautiful hardwood from the original ranger’s cabin built in 1938. We think it’s one of the most beautiful and homey places in the world, and we think you will too! There are 2 bedrooms with queen beds, and the third bedroom is a loft with a queen and double bed which is partially open above the living room and accessible with a ladder. The living room also has a pull-out couch with a queen bed, and a cozy wood-burning fireplace. Access to two pairs of show shoes is included for your winter adventures, and a blow-up paddle board in the summer!
The neighborhood is peaceful and allows for miles of walking amongst aspens and tall pines. The Roadhouse Bar & Restaurant (a great local dive) is right down the road, and the town of Grand Lake with restaurants, shops, boat rentals, and kayaking is only 5 minutes away. Just beyond that is the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, with endless hiking, nature, and wildlife year-round. Grand Lake, Rocky Mountain National Park, and endless hiking and country country skiing/snowshoeing trails are just a few minutes away. Winter Park Ski Resort is 30-40 minutes, and Granby Ranch Ski Resort is 15 minutes away. Shadow Mountain Lake, Lake Granby, and Grand Lake are all within just a few minutes, and guests can use the stand-up paddleboard in the summer, and snow shoes in the winter! The cabin is roughly 2 hours from Denver.
Note: there is no firing of any weapons, or lighting of any campfires or fireworks allowed on the property or in the neighborhood. Thank you in advance for keeping our community safe! 2 pets are allowed with a pet fee of $25/night each.
We had an amazing time at the cabin. Heidi and Matt were very responsive and helpful throughout our trip. We would highly recommend staying here!
The host (Heidi) was very responsive and very easy to do business with. The cabin is just lovely and well stocked. Also, an easy ride to the lakes, hikes, and restaurants. We enjoyed our stay … played cards and board games, which are in the house. I would recommend this home for anything looking for a great place to stay at the lake.
Heidi & Matt are lovely hosts! They thought of everything to enhance our stay from spices in the cabinets to a generous collection of board games and novels and a whole-house humidifier! The cabin’s history makes it all the more endearing. We came from 80 degree weather to a snowy twenty-some in late Spring. Truly, the warmth of the Herrons’ hospitality helped make it an enjoyable visit.
Would stay here again.
The Herons nest was perfect for our family Christmas in the mountains. We loved cabin and the setting. Great winter hikes close by as was a great little town for shopping. The host was great to work with, very accommodating! Would love to stay there again!
My family loved staying here. Only 5 or 6 minutes to the park and close to other activities. Clean, comfortable cabin.
We loved the property and had a wonderful time. It was so close to fishing, atving and hiking. Our grandson cried when we left. He loved it so much Thank you for the great experience
We had such a great time staying here. Heidi and Matt are wonderful hosts! The charm of the whole place was just wonderful. Our kids were obsessed with the cute ladder up to their beds in the loft. The hubby and I loved cozying up next to the wood burning fireplace. The perfect place to come back to and relax after a long day of skiing. We hope to visit again in the summer!
This property is a beautiful blend of history and comfort in one of the best Colorado mountain town settings. This place is perfect for all types of guests-family, friend groups, etc. Located in a quiet and small neighborhood, it is close to nearby towns and a plethora of outdoor activities, RMNP. Very welcoming place after spending a day out. The place is well equipped with we wanted for nothing. Heidi and Matt were warm and accommodating hosts. They were very responsive to all our requests. You can really sense their passion and love for this home and ensuring that guests feel welcome.
