Summary:

The Rustic Cub is designed to help you unplug and unwind from the stresses of everyday life—perfect for couples or small families seeking a peaceful mountain escape. Tucked away in Cosby, Tennessee, this private cabin sits along a scenic mountain pass that leads directly into Gatlinburg, hugging the edge of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and making you feel truly immersed in the Smokies.

The Space:

The soothing sounds of a spring-fed creek echothrough the surrounding trees, creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere throughout the property. Enjoy the new jacuzzi on the deck with a big-screen TV, gather around the firepit, cook in the outdoor kitchen, or unwind with the arcade games and darts—there’s something here for both relaxation and fun.

Privacy is a priority, with the nearest cabin nearly 100 feet away. Just a short walk from the entrance, a charming bridge crosses Greenbrier Creek, a crystal-clear, spring-fed mountain stream flowing directly from the national park. Wildlife sightings, including black bears, are common in the area. For safety, pets must be kept on a leash at all times, though there is plenty of space on the property for walking them. While pets are not allowed on trails within Great Smoky Mountains National Park, nearby Cherokee National Forest—just a short drive away—offers pet-friendly hiking options.

The nearby Cosby section of the park is especially special, home to nearly 80% of the park’s old-growth forest. Many trails accessed from nearby entrances lead into high-elevation areas filled with centuries-old trees—preserved thanks to their elevation, which once kept them beyond the reach of early logging operations.

The cabin feels like it was designed by a bachelor who spent all his energy adding cool features and absolutely none on cleaning, maintenance, or basic livability. The place was filthy, the bedroom was tiny, the bathroom heater didn't work, and the bathroom door wouldn't even open all the way. Thank goodness we aren't huge people otherwise we would not have fit. The kitchen gave strong I'll deal with it later energy with cracked and dirty glassware, ants everywhere, and drawers that won't open or close properly, as if they're protesting their environment, and a barely stocked kitchen for cooking... not even a single baking pan or cookie sheet, but hey there's like 7 cutting boards! The couch was so uncomfortable and had stains all over it like it was straight from frat house. Then there was the BULLET HOLE IN THE KITCHEN WINDOW. The curtains have holes. The cabin sits right on the highway so we heard trucks and cars all night. The firepit is right in view of the entire road and other cabins. Oh, yeah, the other cabins that give no privacy for the super cool hot tub... pretty sure dude was watching us at night from his porch and felt like shared courtyard awkwardness. And I honestly wouldn't have cared too much about this except for how much I paid. The price of this cabin is way too much for what you get.

Nice place. Smaller than the pictures show. Not really on the creek either. Lots of highway noise. Hot tub and porch were great.

To start I’ll say I did give the manager a chance to make this right. They asked what I thought would be fair and I responded that they should decide. $50 reimbursement would’ve been enough for me not to leave this review. First thing I noticed was overgrown yard then the lawn guy was there mowing 3 of the 5 days for about 1 acre. The tall dead stump near the fire pit has poison ivy on it and I seen yellow jackets entering the stump. We have a two year old. We weren’t able to access the front door with the provided code when we arrived so we made a run to Walmart for groceries while waiting on a response. The cleaning lady did give us access when we got back but the code never worked during our stay and had to make sure we had the spare key with us. The water in the hot tub had a slight smell to it and floating chemical container had no chemicals. The living room HVAC unit doesn’t work great and we couldn’t use the living room fireplace to provide more heat due to not being able to locate the remote. There’s an ant issue. We noticed them around the bathroom and kitchen. One of the island chair backs was broken but I had my drill with me so I fixed it with a screw I found.
