Stayed Feb 17, 2023Although things with our booking didn't go as planned, we can't say enough good things about our hosts. They went above and beyond to make things right for us. If you're looking for a quiet getaway that gets you up close with nature you may want to book here.

Stayed Dec 27, 2022We wanted a few days away from Houston and this was the right answer. It was so relaxing. It was wonderful to get up, drink coffee on porch, and watch the goats wander by. Boerne is only 8 minutes away and it is a darling little town. Also Luckenbach is 30 minutes down the road if you want to hang with Waylon, Willie, and the boys. The ranch is great and the hosts are very gracious and helpful. We got to feed the horses in the morning and there is a little playground on site. Highly recommend staying at Home Away From Home Ranch.

Stayed Feb 18, 2022We booked the cutest little tiny & perfect “Butterfly” cabin with a loft that brought squeals of excitement from our two sets of twins (ages 6 & 8). We did all the activities on the ranch during our long weekend & left with fresh eggs that we plan to hatch!!! The amount of surprises & animals was completely unexpected. It’s truly a special place that takes amazing care of their animals & it shows. Right before we left we were able to see something completely amazing: 1 hour old twin Nigerian Dwarf goats still getting birth goop licked up by momma goat! This place is truly a great experience for kids! The first night we did the night adventure hike & walked through splendid & quiet darkness, we were amazed at the tranquility & abundance of stars filling the sky. We found deer poop & learned about venomous spiders, & cacti while finding a live vulture looking down at us! We met super friendly donkeys & horses that didn’t want to leave us, they were so super friendly! Our kiddos were allowed to chase a couple of Emus (yeah, that’s not a sentence I ever expected to ever write in my life!), those things are so magestic it was amazing to see them running with such easy while our kiddos were so chaotic running behind them lol All this happened in the dark, really cool & such a unique experience! The mornings were exciting because of the fresh eggs & lively chickens. There is a wonderful array of feathered friends that roam free with the goats through the day, greeting us randomly. We loved how all the animals were given so much free range & were so happy & super friendly! All these rescues truly found the best sanctuary, they are so well cared for! The exotic bird adventure was so much fun, we got to interact with all the birds as they talked & walked all over us, all so very exciting! Our labradoodle was able to run off-leash safely behind a huge fenced open space while our kiddos explored the grounds, finding bugs, bones & delighting their imaginations while mommy & daddy relaxed on our lawn chairs so happy for the down time! We left with amazing memories & would recommend this ranch to anyone, especially to those with kids! Vicky & Micky were super accommodating to our constantly changing plans & worked on rearranging our schedules depending on kids’ needs. We kept constant communications via text & made sure we had everything we needed & had the most magical experience throughout our 3 night stay, especially with our random goat visits!

Stayed Dec 2, 2021I have visited A Home Away From Home Ranch several times and it never disappoints! Whether I'm looking for a quiet getaway for myself, or to vacation with my family, it is our go to spot. This trip out was just an overnight with my four kids as we were visiting family in San Antonio and wanted to stay somewhere familiar and comfy. We've stayed in several of their cabins but this time we chose Butterflies. It was just what we needed - plenty of space for everyone to sleep comfortably, a cozy kitchen where we were able to enjoy a home cooked dinner and a hot breakfast, a screened in porch for late night card playing, and beautiful views all around. I did run into one issue when trying to book the cabin: I was trying to make a last minute reservation around 3pm on the day I wanted to check-in but VRBO did not offer this option. I messaged the owners with my request; they replied promptly and within the hour they had called VRBO to resolve the issue and I was able to complete the booking. And even with such short notice, we arrived to a tidy, well stocked cabin, complete with fresh linens and the thermostat set to a comfortable temp. Vicky and Micky are always a pleasure to visit. They are attentive, engaging, gracious hosts, and we will be returning to visit their ranch every chance we get. :)

Stayed Nov 25, 2021The stove was broken so we had to cook our food in a rusted grill that was provided. We had to put all dirty towels in a Walmart plastic bags because we were only given one trash bag. The screened in porch the screens were broken and my husband had to fix the lock to the patio. This is not what I expected . I at least expected a stove that worked so we could of cooked our thanksgiving dinner and it wouldn’t of tasted like charcoal. All around stay was very disappointing. Definitely not worth the money I just lost .

Stayed Nov 21, 2021Wonderful cabin on top of a small hill surrounded by lots of land to wander around on a private property that is fenced and very safe. During the daytime, lots of farm animals such as goats, chickens, roosters, a pig, donkeys, horses, and dogs wander around looking for food or someone to play with. Mickey offers 4 optional activities: Horseback riding, Friendly Farm Animal Adventure, Exotic Birds Adventure, and a Night Hike. We did all 4 activities and enjoyed them all. Stock up on all your groceries at the local HEB-Plus in Boerne and you will be set for an extended stay here. My kids and I are looking forward to going back again to see what's new there. New animals I'm sure as the animal sanctuary is a 501-3c non-profit. The animals who get to live here are very lucky indeed.

Stayed Jun 23, 2021We decided to stay here to be able to visit with our family. We love the area there so I rented the “Wildflower” cabin. The day we were to arrive, they messaged and said they “upgraded” us free of charge to a “newer, nicer” cabin (The Lonestar)for my birthday…which I thought was nice. However, it didn’t seem like a newer, nicer cabin. The couches were so worn they had attempted to cover them with covers which fell down every time you sat down. One window had no blinds at all (we found an old throw in a cabinet and tried to cover it with that). The blinds were not in good shape in general. There were no washcloths nor paper towels. We had to buy our own. The internet and tv did not work the whole time we were there except for 1 hour when we first arrived. The orginal cabin we rented had other people staying in it before we even left which was odd. From the looks online The Wildflower was larger at least and had a screened porch. On a positive note, The owners did stay in contact with us. I didn’t want to leave a negative review……… however I feel like they could improve some things there.
