Located in the heart of the 850,000 acre Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest the Cable Area is the mecca for all things trail related. Hiking, mountain bike, ATV, snowmobile, snowshoe and cross country ski trails create an intertwining trail system that is simply awe-inspiring. While many of these trails intersect at some point with another trail, having nearly 1 million acres to play on allows you the freedom to explore at your own pace.
SNOWMOBILING! Right on the trail. Plenty of room for multiple snowmobile trailers. Over 600 groomed miles in Bayfield County with direct connections to Sawyer & Ashland counties. And 1000's of un-groomed forest roads.
Same goes for the ATV enthusiasts!
Steps away from crystal clear Lake Atkins. Small craft boat landing, beautiful park and a sandy bottom area swimming beach.
Short distance to North Country Trail and the Juniper Rock Overlook. Beautiful, easy hiking trails.
Enjoy the Fall colors from any one of the roads within the forest.
The Chequamegon offers a large area of public hunting land abundant with wildlife. Whitetail deer, black bear, ruffed grouse and waterfowl are the most commonly hunted species, but don’t forget the woodcock, gray squirrel, snowshoe hare, coyote and fox. In recent years an explosion of wild turkeys has made the area a great destination to bag your bird. For the hunter who prefers to walk, many miles of trails have been developed, and there are over 11,000 acres of non-motorized designated wilderness area.
