IMAGINE A WEEK in a brand new park model log cabin on a private, forested mountaintop 'twixt two rivers, with the Pisgah National Forest and its waterfalls at your doorstep. Enjoy fully equipped kitchen, master bedroom, sleeping half-loft for the kids or a second couple, screened porch, gas fire pit, gas grill and almost complete privacy. Up to six people can come if you rent both our cabins. The Dell is nearby with one bedroom. This will make an excellent getaway or a perfect home base for hikers, bikers or fishermen. You could even have a family reunion by renting both our cabins, The Mountaintop and The Dell!
THE HISTORY OF THE TWO RIVERS
The Appalachian Mountains are the oldest mountains in the world. For millenia, our Forkfield Mountain has stoically stood its ground shaping the junction of the French Broad and East Fork Rivers. Their confluence is Mile Marker Zero and the beginning of the world's third oldest river, the French Broad. A short walk upstream in the French Broad brings you to the Estatoe Crossing, used by the Cherokee on their path between villages in North Carolina and nearby in South Carolina. You can literally stand on history and envision a bygone era.
THE MOUNTAINTOP
The cabin is a park model Lancaster Log Cabin built in the Pennsylvania Amish country. Cozy yet spacious, this cabin provides some unique private areas: the kids' half-loft, the screened porch, and a nice reading nook adjacent to the master bedroom. The log cabin is decorated with a collection of original art, many from artists from the Asheville and Brevard area. On your private mountaintop, your outdoor space includes a gas grill, picnic table and a seating area with a gas fire pit.
Your stay also includes a river beach. Pull up a chair in the river and cool your feet as you read or just enjoy the sun. There is excellent fishing in season, river wading and exploring, too!
We have a picnic site down at the river with a fire pit and fire wood for cool evenings
WELCOME TO THE LAND OF WATERFALLS
Our county, Transylvania (meaning across the woods) is an amazing outdoor playground. From our 250+ waterfalls, to our pristine trout waters, to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Pisgah National Forest to our diverse community of artists and craftsmen, the Brevard area does not disappoint.
The nearby Pisgah National Forest offers endless miles of varied hiking trails and such attractions as the State Trout Hatchery, Looking Glass Falls (among many others), the Cradle of Forestry, the Pink Beds, Pisgah Stables for horse trail rides, the Devil's Courthouse and everyone's favorite, Sliding Rock.
Dupont State Forest is less than 30 minutes away. Here, Triple Falls is the headliner. It's an impressive sight, a wonderful picnic spot and just upstream from Hooker Falls, a popular swimming spot where you can swim right up to the base of the falls!
Five miles from Forkfield there is access to over 30 miles of off-roading trails in the Jocassee Gorges Wilderness Preserve.
Brevard offers a charming mountain town atmosphere and boasts a world class toy store (not kidding!), art galleries, local artisans and a nice array of restaurant options from brick oven pizza and pasta to fine dining, two bakeries and a chocolatier! Don't forget to visit and sample our many local craft breweries like Ecusta and Brevard Brewing Company plus Oskar Blues and Sierra Nevada. And keep your eyes out for our famous White Squirrels - they're all over town!
With fishing, hiking, biking, off roading, waterfalls and the Pisgah National Forest, Forkfield makes a great base for your mountain vacation get-away.
We welcome you to come be our guests!
Bring your ATV!
You are welcome to bring your side-by-side for your vacation. On the property we use ours all the time to run up and down the mountain, around in the field and through the East Fork River to get to our car. There are also nearby trails that are ATV friendly at certain times of the year.
Carl and Lois were terrific and made us feel like royalty. We will be comming back to this property.
Our stay was peaceful, quiet and relaxing. It was exactly what we were looking for. Hosts were awesome people. We would definitely stay, again.
We had the most wonderful time at this little cabin. Lois and Carl were so welcoming. The cabin itself was immaculate, it was the cleanest place we’ve ever stayed and so cozy. We will definitely recommend it to everyone and hope to come back again ourselves.
Adorable little cabin! Carl was a super host and made sure we had everything we needed! The property is amazing- loved being able to relax in the French Broad! Great location at the start of the River!
Can't say enough about this place. Weekend getaway with my wife and we loved it. The cabin is great but the property itself unbelievable with rivers on both sides that have easy access to. We will definitely be back!
To begin with, Carl and Lois were fantastic hosts. They were very kind, helpful and so thoughtful. They even left glow sticks for our children which were enjoyed nightly. The cabin is on the smaller side but perfectly big enough and we loved it. The size only added to the family intimacy we wanted. The upstairs space was perfect for the kiddos which they dubbed “The Kid Cave”. Everything was clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The property is amazing and the drive in is especially fun. Do yourself a favor and check with the owners before booking to ensure your vehicle is capable enough. My 4Runner was fine and crossed the river with ease. We were too busy to fully explore the whole property but we did stop to fish and cross the swinging bridge on the way out. You can’t go wrong with this property. We loved everything about our stay and will surely be back again.
I highly recommend! Carl and Lois are accommodating, friendly, and not at all crowding. They know how to provide a great stay! The cabin is super clean and cute! You must cross the river with your vehicle only about a foot deep which was super unique and cool. We saw trout 16” or 18” when crossing. Your in a very remote area yet five minutes from the grocery store. Bring your four wheeler or side X side. You can access mooore of the property if you do.
Carl and Lois have a wonderful little cabin in a secluded spot on top of a mountain. 4wd definitely helps, but we had no trouble getting there and loved the cabin. It's also close to Lake Toxaway, parks, Brevard, and other destinations in the area.
Ee
We really enjoyed our stay. Very quiet and peaceful. Will stay again in the future.
Our stay with Lois and Carl at their mountain top cabin was wonderful. They are amazing and kind hosts. Their property is even better than described! Each member of our family was very happy and all look forward to returning.
Photos on VRBO do not do this property justice. The very trendy cabin was perfect for the two of us travelling for a wedding. Room to relax, room to cook, room to eat, room to retreat, room to cleanse and room to rest and we didn't even use the loft. We also enjoyed the outside grill and fire table, as well as the covered outdoor porch. The kitchen had everything we needed while preparing two meals. We were well supplied with quality linens We took time to play in the river, cross the bridge, cast a line or two and wonder through the host's garden. Things do grow better in the mountains. I would say this cabin is not about the views of distant ranges or the roar of currents, this cabin is about taking time to be. To enoy the leaves, the dappled sun light, the play of leaves on a breeze. What a wonderful place to decompress, listen to nature, smell the mountain earth, identify bird calls - just be. The cabin is secluded and private while also close to Rosman, Cashiers, Brevard and Cedar Mountain. If you are going to be cooking, give Jarret's IGA in Rosman a visit for your meat market needs. This was a very positive and happy expereince. Location, accomodations, hosts - it all blends together into a top notch stay.
