About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The historic village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area), and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

The property is beautiful. It also comes retire with pans, cutilery, and kitchen gadgets, there is also amii in ni market close by which makes it convenient. The only problem is that there was a weird smell in the room, as if something didn’t properly

Cabin #78 was cozy with privacy and bathroom for each bedroom. Setting in forest is beautiful. Well stocked EXCEPT no shampoo/conditioner nor hairdryer. TV with Roku and DISH. Needs a cupboard space for food so not having it on counters or mudroom. Perfect to explore Mariposa grove. About hour, windy drive to Yosemite Valley. Small grocery store. Very friendly staff who went out of their way to accommodate our needs. Highly recommend. It's nice to be inside boundary of Yosemite National Park.

Very nice stay. The cabin is clean, the showers are hot. The kitchen has every gadget, pot and pan that you desire (even a garlic press and rice steamer which we did use). The propane grill cooks great! Our only complaint- the couch could use a good cleaning or a replacement. It would also be nice if the property management would supply some basic supplies (ketchup, mustard, etc). Nothing you leave gets saved for the next person. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks!!

This cabin was so easy to find and provided for all of our family's needs. Having two bathrooms made it easy for grandparents and kiddos to share resources and the bedrooms were clean and comfortable. It did get a bit cold at night but with the right attention to the two space heaters, we were very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked - including a huge bonus drawer full of board games- and the kids enjoyed climbing on rocks all around the area. The only minus was that there was a missing remote so the tv wasn't functional. Perhaps the description could be updated to reflect? We actually didn't mind because we were focused on nature time, but others might want to know in advance.

The cabin was as advertised, clean, quiet, in the park. It was a short walk away from the lower chilnualna falls trail. We didn't hang out as we were out hiking. The back porch had a propane gas grill, we grilled chicken for fajitas. Kitchen had all the kitchen gadgets. I would say, it was not well stocked with spices/oil as some other VRBOs (could use a little pay it forward from us guests.) Lots of games if the weather turns south and you get stuck inside. Lovely, would highly recommend and return in the future.

We loved this quaint little cabin. Drive to tunnel view is about 45 minutes but a pretty drive. There is a little market close by with some groceries and snacks. Check in process was great and staff was very friendly. The cabin does not have any air conditioner so in the hot days (90+) it was a struggle but we appreciated the extra fans that were provided. Kitchen is very well stocked with anything you could need. Cabin is close to a pretty falls and it was a nice and enjoyable walk.

We were there to see our daughter who is a law enforcement ranger at Yosemite. If the cabin fits our next group, we would consider staying there again.

Now, this could be my error, I thought all the places had WiFi. House is dated and needs to be modernized. Furniture just didn’t seem clean, same with bathroom which had mold. There was no shampoo and literally 2 slivers of soap per couple.

We really enjoyed this cabin. Wawona is the perfect place . It feels away from the crowds but close to everything. We loved how close it was to the lower falls swimming hole and the swinging bridge. It doesn’t have air and I’m sure it wasn’t a heat wave the cool nights would have been fine. But it didn’t cool off until around 1am. So nights started our hot. But the fans helped. Would definitely recommend
