About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area), and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

We had a great time in Wawona! The location was ideal, the cabin was comfortable and well stocked. The Only issue we had was checking in. The cabin was supposed to be ready at 4, but wasn’t actually ready foe us to check In until almost 5. The redwoods staff was apologetic, but didn’t seem anxious to make it right. We also had a mouse in our cabin, but that is to be expected in the middle of a National park, I guess.

We spent Thanksgiving in this cabin and it was everything we could have hoped for. The cabin was clean, comfortable, cutely decorated, and the perfect size for our family of 6. The kitchen was fully equipped - we were able to make a complete Thanksgiving meal - they had everything we could have hoped for. It snowed the entire time we were there but the fire inside was cozy and the space was large enough for us to spread out with games and puzzles. Great location - we went for walks and sledding through the neighborhood and drove to the Valley for a day. I would highly recommend this cabin!

It was the best service an cabin rental We have ever stayed in. The people, were the kindness , helpful, delightful people to come arcross . NO, I do not know them, by chance we had to find a cabin in an emergency , an they help us out 110 percent, never talk with anyone in the office that was moody, or made us feel like we inconvenience them in anyway. Never, We will go back. Thank you to all the Folks at Redwood cabins, You were the BEST. GOD BLESS THE MANAGER AN STAFF. DONNA

We have been staying in the cabins in Wawona since 1977, but had never stayed in your beautiful home. It was the perfect setting for our family while attending a celebration of life ceremony in the valley. We were able to host a large group for dinner very comfortably and hope to find ourselves guests again in the future.

Except for lack of air conditioning and no night lights, the cabin is well-equipped and spacious enough for the 7 in our family who stayed there for 3 nights. Fans were provided.

The cabin is beautiful, quiet, and in a great location. There were a few small things that required maintenance upon arrival and the maintenance staff was extremely quick to respond. There's a great swimming spot with a few rapids within a very short walk in the compound. This was perfect for our family with two teenagers and we enjoyed having the large living room and separate dining space to spread out in after long days hiking.

We had a wonderful time. I had my 70th birthday celebration in cabin 48 and the photos tell the whole story. Despite rain and hail the day of the party we had a lovely party in your cabin for 20 of us without crowding. I would love to stay there on a regular basis but my Shiba, Lola had to stay in a pet cabin this time so no can do on a yearly or more basis when I usually visit the Redwoods.

Cabin #48 is a wonderful cabin. The amenities are superior, the location is fantastic and the cabin has a warm, comfortable yet classy feeling. I would recommend staying here in a heartbeat for those seeking adventure and a good time in Yosemite.
