The Coyle Cabin has been completely redecorated — back in the 1970’s! But let me first provide the pluses: you’ll find a good and efficient air conditioner and heater, old-but-comfortable mattresses, land-line international phone service, and a TV with cable. On the minus side, we were welcomed to the smell of soot and ash every time we entered. Although we didn’t use the fireplace, it’s smell permeates the home. There is no style to the decor — the motif throughout is brown-on-brown-on-beige. The entire house is dark inside, complemented with a very tired mottled plush carpeting throughout and beige tile with chocolate-brown grout in the kitchen and baths. The carpeted master bathroom (ewwwww) has no vent fan and an inoperative wall heater, so count on a very steamy room after a shower. Furniture is thrift-store quality; appliances are generally 3+ decades old. Servicing by the Redwoods at Yosemite is marginal. For example, the dishwasher was full of dishes when we arrived, with the “clean light” not illuminated, so either the dishes had not been washed, or the dishwasher had been opened after washing to turn off the light. So we had to wash the dishes before using them. There was almost no firewood in the bin inside the house, but a boatload outside ready to be hauled upstairs by the next renter. Many lights in the house did not work, and some non-dimmable LED lights were wired to dimmers, which creates a terrible flicker and a potential fire hazard. Multiple lampshades we’re ancient cracked/broken plastic. There was a guest book in the living room with a welcome of “Feel free to use the many games in hall closet”— but this closet is one of many doors locked by the owner to renters. I would not stay here again.
Excellent
Cabin had great beds and kitchen but, very old carpeting. The deck needs to be stained and some repairing......but, the overall property/location was great!
We were so lucky to have found this cabin at the very last minute (by Yosemite standards, which was 5 mos before stay). The cabin was spacious and comfortable. We loved it and will definitely be coming back!
No issues, just as advertised. Only problem was, we should have planned to stay longer.
all you can ask for in vacation home. very cozy and inviting place. will definitely come back.
Good location (middle of Yosemite), but also close to other houses and to a market. Clean and a well maintained. Not many dishes. I recommend for children and family.
We love Cabin 40!! It is bigger than we need (two couples), but there are so many things we enjoy about this cabin, especially the kitchen (except for the knives - terrible)!! We also enjoy the short walk down to the river and to Chilnualna Falls. One suggestion I would make would be to add a Blu-Ray player. They are not that expensive, and those of us who have all Blu-Ray discs would like to be able to play them in the evenings by the wonderful fireplace.
We are a group of 6 adults who live to hike. We chose this place because of its proximity to Yosemite valley. Nothing is close but we never minded the drive to the valley, Glacier Point, and Tuolumne Meadows because the scenery is so beautiful. The house itself is fine and the kitchen well stocked with cooking hardware. Our only two comments are that the beds are hard (easily fixed by putting down blankets) and the wifi is very weak. Emails are fine but only one person can be on the Internet at a time. However, about a hundred feet away is the property manager building and you can access their internet when sitting on the porch. We didn't see this as a big issue as we were there to disconnect anyway but for those of you who must be connected it may be an issue. We would definitely use this property again. Some of the neighbors are park rangers.
