About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite) and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup basketball game at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The historic village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 110 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer, and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

I visited with my family including my elderly father and this cabin was perfect for our needs. It's across the street from a convenience store (helpful because shampoo is not provided) and provides extremely easy access to the park. Would absolutely stay here again during my next Yosemite visit.

Property was very nice. Only downside was we had a mouse or 2 running around. We did enjoy our stay there.

We decided on a quick (out n back) trip to Yosemite. We arrived on a Saturday night. Entry into the park and travel around the park was flawless. The house was wonderful and allowed us to cook large meals for our 7 person party. Instructions were easy.

We enjoyed our stay at the Terry property. Everything we needed was provided including a washer and dryer, a/c, and kitchen gadgets/dishes, etc. 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms were appreciated by our group of 7. We were all very comfortable. Come prepared with your essentials - bath soap, shampoo, toothpaste, sunscreen, deoderant, etc. And, if you plan to cook, I would recommend bringing foil, parchment paper, spices, etc. as these items are not provided and are quite pricy at the nearby market. It would be nice if two towels per guest were provided. The drive from this property to the floor of the Yosemite Valley is approximately one hour so we left each morning by 7 to ensure that we were able to find parking. The drive from SFO to this property was close to 4 hours. The drive from this property to Sequoia National Park - our next destination was approximately 3 to 3.5 hours.

Our family of eight adults enjoyed a lovely week of hiking and hanging out at the Terry “cabin” @ The Redwoods in Yosemite. The word cabin is a bit of a misnomer as the house is quite spacious with 4 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. The best part was that home was located inside the park close to several hiking trails and the Merced river.

We have had the best time in Terrys cabin (8 adults varying in age from 25 to 60). The cabin was clean, warm and comfortable. The surroundings are peaceful and beautiful with a 5 mile hike from the cabin to the top of a mountain with breathtaking views and a stunning waterfall. It took approx 45 minutes to drive to Yosemite Valley with magnificent views for the whole length of the journey. I don’t think I’ve ever said wow so many times on a journey. I would highly recommend Terrys cabin for the comfort and location.

Nice size house for our group of six extended family members. Pictures are accurate. Overall a pleasant stay but there were some cons. There is no washer or dryer in the house - this was stated in the description but we found it to be a bummer, especially when traveling with small children. Stingy with the towels (we were provided exactly as many bath towels as we had guests and only 2 kitchen towels). Unlike most vacation houses that have certain staples in the pantry (spices, olive oil, etc.) this house had nothing. Come prepared if you plan on cooking.

Read all info when you check in for the towel exchange and what paper products they supply, laundry was at office not in the house. The Deck was awesome, we enjoyed early morning coffee and evenings with glass of wine watching the deer in our backyard!
