About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical-drop waterfall in Yosemite) and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup basketball game at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area), and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

The cabin is perfectly set up for a warm, cozy family gathering with plenty of space for our party of five. The kitchen is nicely laid and highly functional. My husband and I enjoyed having the whole top floor to ourselves with our two adult daughters (one with her fiance) taking the two bedrooms below. The secod floor loft over the living room and the fireplace both added some charm. Our proximity to Yosemite key attractions, Mariposa Grove and nearby trails was perfect for our three night stay. Having the Pine Tree Market a block away from us was a big plus. We had a wonderful time!

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our three-night stay at the Wawona Retreat. Being inside the park made our visit so much easier, since we didn't have to worry about entering each day. Wawona is a great location and is very close to the Mariposa Grove. Although the home wasn't huge, there was enough room for our 8-person group. It was also super convenient to be so close to the neighborhood market (right around the corner). The kitchen had everything we needed to make several meals, which we definitely took advantage of. There could have been a few more towels, both in the kitchen and bathrooms. You also need to make sure you provide your own shampoo, soap, etc., but this is nitpicking. We would definitely considering staying here again.

This pros: A/C, the kitchen was functional and it made good use of it space with the beds. It was nice being close to the market. Cons: Needs major updating, the downstairs bathroom was very musty with visible mildew, the A/C had to be set very low to get the upstairs at a comfortable temp therefore making the downstairs bedrooms frigid. The backyard needs shade or an umbrella. Overall, we had a wonderful time in Wawona and made special memories. However, I just don’t feel like this cabin was worth what we paid.

The home was very comfortable and cozy. It was just my wife and 2 teenage daughters, but could easily accommodate another family of 4. We stayed for 3 nights, but we realized we should have stayed at least an entire week, just on the basis of the location and the home comfort the rental provided. I will definitely recommend the house and will be looking for another stay in the future.

The cabin was nice with almost anything we needed. There were 3 not 4 bedrooms (we expected 4). I was very pleased with the cabin. BBQ & kitchen were great. I was charged for insurance and told days later it was cancelled and refunded. I've never seen the refund and have called HB a few times and told the will investigate and call me back. I do not expect it to ever happen.

House was clean and tidy. Bedroom layout was really good for us (2 adults, 6 kids). Two queen rooms on first floor, 1 king and twin upstairs and then three twins up stairs as well. Property location to market was great, right around the corner. Perfect walk for kids. The market is very helpful and owner is super. Also, nice walk to elementary school playground and to river where kids played in the water. Not much of a view here and you are sitting pretty close to neighbors but enough of a yard for the boys to play outside for most of the time we were at the house. Be sure to bring any and all soaps, shampoos, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. There are none available. There is coin laundry at the Redwood check in area but first thing in the morning there is a line. Redwood staff is very helpful and nice. TV and video availability in cabin was good, also video rentals available at market. Wifi available but if you have AT&T you are completely out of service in the park anyways. There is a landline that was helpful. Wish there was a little better outdoor seating and a heating lamp or something like that. Also, bug spray would be nice. Staying inside the Park is awesome. Would definitely return.

We were pleased with the beautiful cabin and how comfortably it accommodated 8 adults. The kitchen is beautiful and well equipped and the bedrooms and bathrooms were spread out enough to offer privacy if desired. We had a great time.

I will definitely be back. This cabin has everything. It is great for a group. There is plenty of room and the kitchen very well stocked. Because there are beds for many, there are kitchen supplies for big groups. No need to worry about renting this cabin.

I've been taking my family to this cabin for several years. It's comfortably decorated, well laid out, with an open living area that opens onto the deck. The children love the large flat area off the back deck for outdoor games. My girls and I love the well equipped kitchen where there is room for all of us to work together preparing meals. It has been very well maintained. It is quiet, convenient to the little market and office, a nice walk down to the river and of course, a beautiful drive down to the Valley. We look forward to our annual trip to our cabin for the whole year!
