Want to experience Frankenmuth in the best way How about a room in a bed and breakfast in the heart of town.

Dawdy Haus is Pennsylvania Dutch (Amish) for Grandpa's House. When the kids have grown up and the house becomes too big, it becomes time to turn it over to a child that has their own growing family. The Amish often build a new house for the grandparents - with a guest room or two. This is known as the dawdy haus.

This is our dawdy haus! we look forward to sharing it with you!

(PLEASE NOTE. You are booking 1 private room with a private bathroom. Not the entire home. This is a Bed and Breakfast which is actually a specific thing and means that there must be a host onsite who provides breakfast! You will be the only guests and you will have access to all the common areas of the home, including the hot tub!)

Read on!

Inspired by the Amish, we've decorated in a simple farmhouse style that will make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Our home is all about having a place for family and friends to visit and share time together. Whether it's early morning coffee on a glider rocker on the sun porch, grilling on the patio, or relaxing in the hot tub (closes at 10), we hope you just feel at home.

Like most Amish dawdy hauses, it is a ranch style home so you don't have to deal with stairs. So even if it is smaller than the home we just moved out of, there is plenty of room for sleeping, visiting, and playing. The outdoor patio is private and perfect for gathering most of the year! Even in the winter because of our newly installed hot tub! And the rest of the yard is completely fenced with an extra high chain-link fence which you and your pets will appreciate.

And in case you wondered, we have plenty of electricity. I said 'inspired' by the Amish.

When it comes to accessing the wonders of Frankenmuth, we can't say enough about how perfect the location is. Leave your car in the driveway and walk two blocks to where the traditional Frankenmuth attractions begin. If you know Frankenmuth, you know that everything is centered on Main Street and there is a slight incline from the river up to Genesee Street. We're at the top of the hill, so you get to start with the downhill walk. If you don't want to walk back, we’ll come and bring you back if you let us know ahead of time!

Regarding accessing our home. You'll get a code for the front door and for your private bedroom. The bathroom is shared by the two guest rooms, but we currently only allow one group at a time, so every group will have a private bathroom. If you need a second room, check our listing that offers both of our guest rooms instead.

The common areas of the house are available for your use - including the Hot Tub. As a true bed and breakfast, by definition, we provide breakfast and we reside in the home. This is different than many places that you may find elsewhere. See the During Your Stay section for more details.

As far as accessing other places The Birch Run outlet mall is 8.6 miles from our home. Take the back way down Dehmel Rd to avoid the crowds on Main St. Bronner's Christmas Wonderland is also a little far to walk but how can you not go to a place that has billboards all the way down in Florida.

We split time between Michigan and Florida, and like to camp, so you may meet a couple of our adult kids who help if we are gone.

Speaking of breakfast! We provide a different home-cooked meal each morning of your stay. Check out the pictures, they'll make you hungry! But please note: we don't provide a buffet of ALL the items in ALL the pictures at ONE time. We have to mention this because someone had this expectation and left us a bad review because we didn't!

Outside of breakfast, we will try to make ourselves scarce unless you are looking for our help in experiencing Frankenmuth.

We can get you started with a free wine tasting (ask for details), maybe a guided tour, or maybe all you need are a few recommendations!

We want you to have only the amount of interaction with us that YOU want to make your visit to Frankenmuth perfect!

Regardless, we are never more than a phone call or IM away throughout the day and evening .

We wanted to be within walking distance of the heartbeat of Frankenmuth. Nestled in a quiet neighborhood two blocks from Main Street, its the perfect location for us - and probably for you!

Frankenmuth is made for walking. And from our home you're a couple blocks from shops, restaurants and all the attractions

If you are looking for a place to hold a party because your guests might make a mess of your home, just keep scrolling. We're not interested.

We price based on how many are staying in the home. This is calculated during checkout, so it is important that you enter the right number of guests.

(Please note: This room is ideal for no more than 2 adults and two very small children. If you have 4 adults, look at our other Frankenmuth Dawdy Haus listings instead of, or in addition, to this one).

We have a Mini Golden Doodle puppy and we allow dogs. One dog per guest room only. And a maximum of 40 lbs. All pets must be crated if left alone in the house. And sorry, no cats period. My husband is deathly allergic.

We may consider an exception upon request with full disclosure of size, breed and age of dogs. Any exception would require an additional fee and a security deposit.

When you book you will receive a link to our Guest Portal, where we provide additional services offline. We call these Extras.

Extras include both certain free amenities and items available for a fee. All can be easily arranged through our Guest Portal. We will send you a link after you book. You will be able to: 1) request optional free amenities like setting up a port-a-crib, etc. and 2) select and pay for things like: an early check-in, etc. If you have questions or can't find these on the guest portal, reach out and ask about any of these items of interest.

If you're like us and like to go south when Michigan is cold, check out our other home down on the Florida Gulf coast. You can find our other properties on our profile.

We enjoyed staying there, it was so quiet and relaxing using the hot tub after a long day of walking the shops. Lilac was a good host and made us good breakfast. The house was just like the posting said, it was cozy and comfortable in a beautiful neighborhood!

We arrived late and in the middle of a rain storm and were happily greeted and checked in quickly. The location is convenient and the rooms are clean.

We enjoyed our time away immensely and hope to visit again. Mike and Krista could not have been more gracious! Clean, comfortable, and quiet! We parked our car and left on foot most of the weekend and it was perfect! Thank you again for the warm hospitality, fun conversations, and delicious breakfasts!

We were there for a family wedding. The bed and breakfast place worked for us. We were so busy with family, we didn't spend too much time at the house. When we were there, we didn't see or hear our host. So we didn't feel we were being a bother to her. This is our first time at a bed and breakfast and it was a concern as to how this worked. Lilac was very welcoming and breakfast was nice. The house is located within 5 mins of all the cute shops. We enjoyed our stay.

We stopped here for one night on our way up to Mackinac Island. The location is great and close to all of the attractions in Frankenmuth. The neighborhood is nice and we took a beautiful evening walk that ended by the river. The owners were very friendly and breakfast was good. We knew we were taking a risk staying at a bed and breakfast where we would be sharing a house with others. We did have a private bedroom and bathroom, but felt we had to stay in those tiny quarters. Our only complaint was the temperature in the bedroom. It was uncomfortably warm in our room and there was no thermostat to control the temp. I cannot sleep with ceiling fan on at night because it triggers my allergies. We opened the windows, but it was a very warm night and neither of us slept well. We realize the true Bed and Breakfast experience is not for everyone. The explanation on VRBO is accurate, so we are in no way criticizing the owners. It was a good location for a halfway stop on our way to Mackinac Island.

Although our stay was brief, we enjoyed our time at this house & our hosts. They accommodated our requests and made us & our dog feel welcome. We also appreciated the extra effort when we realized we left some items. Thanks again for being such good hosts!
