Barre, California
Come stay in an apartment in the Maple Grove Farmhouse built in 1823. The house is surrounded by 140 acres of fields and woods for great hiking. Take a walk to the beaver pond that sits at the foot of the hill; if you get up early enough you will see the beavers. Swing under the huge maples or walk through flower beds and vegetable gardens or just sit and write. Cozy up inside with a good book or whip up a great meal. This is a wonderful place to get away from it all. Whether visiting family for a few weeks or viewing the magnificent colors of our New England fall foliage or on a romantic winter escape, enjoy your own five rooms of tranquil space.
Visit Brimfield, the Antique capital of the world, Sturbridge Village, see life as it used to be, Quabbin Reservoir with hundreds of acres of trails, Wauchusett mountain skiing or disc golfing at the Barre Falls Dam. If attending a wedding at Allen Harding Estate, Hartman's Herb farm, meditating at Barre's Buddist Insight Meditation Society, or visiting your student at Eagle Hill School, Maple Grove is right nearby.
Every box was checked for me. Great hosts, beautiful stars at night, comfy rooms and furniture and good wifi! Rebecca was great at communicating . I stayed for 3 months and leaving was bittersweet. I will miss my time on the farm and exploring the quaint towns and trails and lakes. THANK YOU REBECCA AND DOT!!!
They were very accommodating as our arrival was almost midnight. Such a peaceful beautiful get-away. Thank you!
If your idea of an idyllic vacation is clean air, mild summer weather, and woodsy surroundings, then this VRBO is one pleasant Central Massachusetts vacation destination to consider.
We had a lovely stay in Barre. The location worked well for our visit with family. The property is an old farmhouse split into different units. I never heard or saw any other people. The unit was clean and a bit quirky as most older farmhouses are. We had 3 comfortable bedrooms and a kitchen with plenty of space.
I was looking to stay in a country place near the Quabbin Reservoir. This fit the bill. Quiet and private. Kitchen was nicely stocked for cooking though I mostly did take out. Plenty of towels and bathroom supplies. A really nice apt in an amazingly beautiful setting. If you want country- this is your place, hands down.
This place had a beautiful setting and the owner was very nice. Many of the places I have stayed through the home away site has a digital key pad for the lock. This place had a regular key. This wasn't an issue but you do need to make sure that you have it worked out with the owner when you're getting there so that she can meet you. I had made arrangements to call her when we were about a half hour away but didn't realize that cell service is intermittent in that area. The house itself has good cell service the area surrounding the house was very spotty. Fortunately the owner was there when we arrived. One thing I did notice was that the pictures shown on the Home Away site was not the rooms we were staying in. I think there are a couple apartments in the house and the pictures are probably from one of the other apartments. Not a big deal but if you want to see what your renting before you get there then be aware that you may not get what the pictures are showing. Overall it was a nice place to stay. We took the commuter train into Boston a couple days which made travel easier than driving through boston. If I were to come back to this area I would certainly consider staying here again. A big plus is that it seemed like a very safe area. When we were at the house we were not afraid to let the kids go outside by themselves. Safety is huge when your in an unfamiliar area and for this reason alone it is certainly worth staying here if you're in the area.
Quiet and peaceful. Perfect for relaxing. Loads of natural beauty.
The facility was as advertised. It was quiet, quaint and clean in a country setting. Rebecca was very accommodating and it filled the close demographic need for the weekend activity our family was attending. We certainly would stay again should be be in the area.
Nice, clean, cozy place to stay while we visited family in the area. Kitchen was very well equipped including many pantry items which saved grocery money. Enjoyed walks in the nearby woods and also several antique stores and restaurants. Very friendly owner. Would definitely stay again.
We arrived admittedly on a wet day but the whole apartment felt and smelt damp. There is a hole in the bathroom floor that has clearly been there a long time and water comes in through the kitchen ceiling! A very unpleasant odour came out of the bathroom sink when you ran the hot water, the fridge was not turned on and had quite a few condiments from previous guests in it (4 bottles of mustard for example). The bathroom is downstairs, but does have a brilliant showerhead. Saying all of this, we only slept there as we were out from early in the morning until late in the evening and it proved a good base for our travels. The area is very quiet and pretty.
