The Gales on Lake Superior I Stunning Lakeshore & Views I by Relax Open Air

We had a great stay here. The property is right on the lake with some of the best views we’ve ever had—absolutely beautiful setting. The home itself was excellent and exactly what we were looking for.The only recommendation I’d make is to provide a bit more clarity on parking. It would be helpful to mention that the driveway is immediately after the house when coming from downtown, as it’s easy to miss the first time.Overall, a fantastic place, and we would definitely stay here again.

The location, property and host were all terrific. Right on Lake Superior, we enjoyed watching the full moon reflected on the icy water. The property itself was fresh, clean, well supplied and very comfortable for our group. The host was attentive to any questions that arose.

Great space and very clean. Easy parking and check-in. The view of the lake from inside is beautiful, even in the winter! We didn't get to use the patio due to the January weather, but we would definitely stay here again.

This is a beautiful home, gorgeous view. Everything you need is available. We only wished it had been warmer so we could have enjoyed the fire pit! We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again!

All was terrific and as advertised! One suggestion: Paint the Gales sidewalk’s one step either yellow or red or anything other than white. White was tough to see in snow, even after we shoveled the walk.

Our stay was fabulous! The place was great with amazing views of the lake. The home and all the furniture in it was extremely comfortable. Couldn’t have picked a better place to relax and unwind for a few days.

Property was very clean and well stocked, great view of Lake Superior, and good location to access Duluth and the Northshore. Only problem was the constant sound of vehicles driving fast on London Road.

We were very impressed by how well the units were stocked. Every conceivable pot, pan and utensil was available for our use. The unit was very clean and the locations was perfect! Convenience to the grocery store was amazing. We didn't utilize them, but there were two kayaks available for guest use. We did use the lakeside fire pit as well as the propane heater on the porch. You could probably find a less expensive VRBO listing, but you would be hard pressed to find a better unit. I give this property my highest recommendation.

Our unit was ready early so we were able to check in an hour early. Beautiful property! One member of our party had stayed here before and recommended it to our group. The beds were comfortable, everything was very clean and nicely decorated. We enjoyed our stay and would come again.

It was so nice to drink coffee right by Lake Superior. The house and location were wonderful. We would come back.

Beautiful location and view of Superior. We were close to everything: hiking, restaurants, walking distance to a grocery store, brewery, and liquor store. The host was great, resolving a minor issue immediately (door lock needed a new battery). Definitely would recommend this rental.

Sometimes when you book a VRBO, the pictures sure look better than the actual place. Not the case here! This place was SO amazing!! The location, the amenities, the view, the rooms, etc. My adult children absolutely adored it, wish we could have stayed longer. Definitely recommend this place! 12/10 stars!!

Overall a great place with beautiful views and awesome location. Just one criticism. The chairs/couches in the family rooms are very uncomfortable.

Fabulous place. We would definitely stay here again. Tabitha was wonderful to deal with & very responsive to any questions we had. Even when we had to change our dates of travel, she worked with us. The home was in a beautiful location, very clean, and they offer anything & everything you could possibly need while staying there. The view was awesome as well, it was a great stay.

The location was superb, the proximity to get to everything was spot-on. The cleanliness and updated amenities and bathrooms were appreciated. The towels and bedding and beds were clean and comfortable for a 4-night stay. We used the dishes to make meals and loved the ice-maker in the fridge. Definitely felt like enough room for the 4 of us in that space and close to everything we experienced in and near Duluth. The only suggestion I would have is to get a different/bigger couch in the main living area, that one was smaller than a futon and uncomfortable for a full grown adult. Otherwise, everything was perfect! Would love to stay again someday!

A lot of thoughtful attention clearly went into designing and furnishing this lovely property, and it's obvious that the hosts prioritize ease and comfort for guests. It's cozy, quiet, and restful. The rooms and kitchen are well provided -- far more than everything we needed. And the light! The view out of all the big windows overlooking the lake was fabulous. It was unfortunately a bit too cold for us to take full advantage of the outdoor area; in warmer weather, we absolutely would have enjoyed the patio and a fire.

The house was fantastic, as advertised. Every detail accounted for. The lake was beautiful.

Very comfortable, well appointed and well suited to our group of 5. Beds were excellent. Several very nice little extras such as coffee pods, a small snack basket, and bath essentials. Kitchen was well equipped (a colander would be a good addition as well as more than one dish towel). Dishwasher instruction that the door must be closed before end of 'count down' would also be helpful. Clean approach to decorating was appreciated by all in our group.

The location was beautiful! Would love to stay in warm weather and be able to be outside. Very clean and simply but beautifully decorated. Well stocked with all the essentials plus some. Tabitha was very responsive. Would stay here again.

The three of us always plan a trip during MLK holiday. It was perfect for us. We each had our own bedroom, a comfortable table for playing cards, a kitchen with all the amenities and a comfortable living room to watch TV. Thanks for the beautiful place to get together!

Its a nice property, but there are some things that make it feel this is not a labor of love for the owners. Positives:That VIEW!Well stocked kitchen (including a garlic press!)Nicely decoratedHvac system keeps the home plenty warmClose to duluth and surrounding actvitiesManagement was very responsive.Good selection of games providedNegatives:I dont think the bedding was washed. The comforter in the main bedroom along w one of the robes definitely smelled of mens cologne.The washing machine is very dirty and has an intense mold smell and needs to be cleaned (regularly for a front load since the door gets closed a lot)The water heater is not sufficient for the amount of guests this location advertises as able to accomodate, and all 5 of us had to take cold showers one day even tho the dishwasher and wash machine had not been run 10 hours prior to showers.There was an issue w water leaking through the rock walls in one of the bedrooms (tho thus was addressed quickly)There was a black headband and a wine box discovered in a guest bedroom upon entry to the cottage which again indicates cleaning is not strongly emphasized.The front porch steps are exceedingly slippery on a cold morning following a foggy night...non skids should be put on the steps as several of us nearly fell down the stairs. No washcloths or hand towels provided in the bathrooms. We had to seek them out on our own from the locked storage area. Would i stay again? Maybe. But i would

Even better than the listing made it look. The kitchen was perfect and had everything needed to cook whatever you would want. Not just bare bones pot/pan and a couple plates. Fully equipped. Even had basics like spices and cooking oil. Very clean and beds were comfortable. We will be back.

Perfect place - 3 couples fit well. Kitchen was well-equipped so we had breakfasts and a supper there. Easy access to get to Bentleyville and the Glensheen Mansion. Loved listening to Lake Superior and watching the steam off the lake because of the cold!!

We had a wonderful stay at the Gales! It was the perfect location for our group of 6.We met our adult children and their significant others for a holiday weekend. The house was clean and had everything we could ask for. The view was breathtaking and we were able to enjoy fun time together as a family while also having space for everyone to sleep and relax. If another trip to Duluth is in our future, we will definitely stay again and likely for longer. Thank you for an amazing family weekend and lots of wonderful memories made!

Stayed here for the anniversary of the sinking of the Edmond Fitzgerald. Watched the lighting ceremony at Split Rock. The location was perfect to explore Canal Park and watch the lake traffic. The house was super clean. We built a fire almost every night and watched the sun set. Beds were very comfortable and nice pillows. The living room couch is very low to the ground so stacked some pillows on it to make it easier to get up. (We are all senior citizens). Great views of the lake. Would stay here again.

The place is beautiful! Wonderful views of Lake Superior. The house was very clean and well maintained. We ran out of propane in the outdoor heater but the property manager responded immediately and quickly brought a new one. We would definitely stay here again.

Location is awesome, inside is bright and clean, you can hear the lake at night, right on the scenic trail, you can watch the ore ships go right by, everything we wanted!

Nice amenities, right on water. The only negative is there is a unit above and you can hear everything. Them walk, flush toilet, drop stuff on the floor. If you are a light sleeper, like me, you cannot sleep in main bedroom. I had to sleep in one downstairs for quiet. Location is great, place is immaculate and has extras like games, spices etc ...

Three retired couples who enjoyed this wonderful property!!! We loved the bonfires by the beach!! If I were to suggest one improvement, it would be for more comfortable living room furniture.

I cannot begin to put into words how amazing this property is. The cleanliness, the style, the comfort of the beds, the furniture. Everything was above and beyond. Tabitha, you are such a gracious host. We enjoyed the outdoors, I was on a kayak and swimming for 3 hours. The water was shockingly warm. This house is absolutely lovely and tended too by gracious giving hands. We cannot begin to thank you.

Wonderful place to stay.

This property provided my sisters and I the perfect getaway. Everything we could have needed was readily available, including a neighborhood grocery store, brewery, and liquor store within easy walking distance. One thing the listing is not clear on is that the house has 2 VRBO listings... the main and lower level that we rented plus an upper floor. Each has a private entrance. Our first night at the firepit, we found ourselves competing with the voices coming down from the upper balcony and through our open windows once we moved inside.

Everything was exactly as listed. The home was very clean and fully stocked. Exceptional views made it the perfect spot for us to take elderly relatives for a brief vacation. Everything they needed on one floor. It was perfect!

Super pleased with our stay at The Gales! House came with everything from Keurig coffee pods, shampoo, bathrobes to hybrid kayak-paddleboards, life vests and fire wood. We brought our own kayaks and had calm waters 3 mornings in a row for paddles around Brighton Beach. Fire pit, fenced backyard and stairs down to the lake were fantastic. We rented adjoining property The Vue and had extra room for the rest of the family. Highly recommended!

The house is even more beautiful than the pictures show. The views are incredible, the location is perfect. It couldn’t have been better. We were impressed beyond our expectations in every way. We will be booking on our next visit for sure!

We had a lovely week at The Gales with dear friends. The space was thoroughly accommodating, very clean and well appointed. The Gales is positioned directly on the Lake Superior shore and provides lovely views at sunrise and dusk. The alluring white noise of the waves was an added peaceful feature. The owner contacted us the day of our arrival about a scheduled repair to the air conditioning system that evening and provided a sizable refund to use for dinner at one of Duluth’s many lovely restaurants while the HVAC crew was working. The repair was completed promptly with no intervention whatsoever from us. That proactive service was remarkable. We recommend The Gales and plan to return to this lovely home!

Great location. Great lake views and access. Really nice interior. Fire pit was great. Only knock was two bedrooms on the basement level and for whatever reason I didnt realize it was next to another unit.

First class property! From the moment we walked in, we were WOWed by the beautiful home and the unbelievable view of Lake Superior. All of the amenities were top notch (like coffee pods, monogramed towels, toiletries, etc.), there were even snacks left for us and the furnishings were top of the line. The house was immaculate, the grounds were so inviting and the whole experience was a solid 10!

When we arrived, we were in heaven seeing the property. It was modern, so clean, and it had everything you could want to enjoy your time there. The decor was simple and the beds were super duper comfortable! The bonfire area and how close we were to the lake was spectacular! Tabitha was super quick responding to all our questions. We will return again!!

Everything was absolutely perfect. Couldn’t ask for a better location. Some solar lights on the steps leading to the lower fire pit would be nice. Would definitely stay here again and again.
