Rome, Lazio
This is an extremely elegant apartment with really special personality, blend of Italian antique furniture. This four bedroom apartment is situated on a super bright first floor of a beautifully preserved building with an elegant entrance. The apartment is composed by a double entrance, a large double living room with a dining area and fireplace, three double master bedrooms, one single bedroom, three bathrooms (bathtub and shower), a large kitchen and an astonishing lovely balcony overlooking via della Croce.
For visitors who wish to explore Rome by foot, this is an excellent point from which to do so, the marvelous Spanish Steps district includes the Fontana di Trevi, Quirinale, Piazza del Popolo and of course the Piazza di Spagna. From your doorstep, in around 5 minutes by foot you can reach easly the Piazza Navona, Pantheon and Campo de' Fiori. All major attractions in the center of Rome are thus within walking distance.
3 E suites, 1 had no hot water, 1 the toilet did not flush all very dirty. The whole place was generally grubby, mattresses and furnishings old and uncomfortable. Visual impression at first blush was good until you looked or sat
Pros: The space was more than adequate for our 7 adults -living room & kitchen were large. Refrigerator was large. Location was primo for us. The elevator was convenient. Cons: A/C was worked on upon arrival - only one fixed of two down (small BR had none, only a fan). My wife fell to the floor upon sitting on a BR chair - didn't notice it broken, only 3 legs (another chair in BR was broken worse). Calls for A/C fix gave us nothing; calls to managers were not answered and one you have a wrong number). Maintenance answered but didn't help. Luxury in apt. was 40-50 years ago; some standing closet doors stuck & had no handle to open. Had a small washer but dryer was a wire rack so was a hassle. We ate out - didn't use kitchen. OVERALL the cost was fair, but we would not return.
I cannot say enough positive things about our stay at the Spanish Steps luxury apartment! My friends were a little indecisive on when to arrive and when to leave, but Maddalena and the management were so nice and accommodated us every step of the way. The apartment is just 5 minutes walk from the Spanish Steps, 10 minute walk to Trevi Fountain, a taxi cab station is 2 minute walk away. It was perfect! We went during early December so there was no noise but I can imagine that in the summer time, on a busy street you will hear noise. But that's Rome and we love it! The apartment was immaculate and even the heat was on when we arrived! Maddalena was so warm and nice and even gave me a birthday gift, snacks and prosecco! The apartment is exactly as described. The 3 bedrooms have en suite bathrooms, 2 with showers and 1 with a tub. There is even a small spare bedroom, which came in handy! You have to walk up one flight of stairs however there is an elevator. Maddalena gave us the best restaurant recommendations! It's also in a perfect location for shopping! All of the best shops are just a short walk away in the neighborhood. And there's a supermarket just one street over. It was just a perfect stay. I will definitely be back! Grazie mille!!! We love you! Your friend from America!
Our 5 day family visit to Rome was tainted by this rental. We had issues w/ plumbing, WiFi (only 2 rooms), coffeemakers, loud morning street noise, & worst of all, suspected Bed bugs. On check-in day we found instructions: Do not place luggage on the bed, that is how bed bugs are spread. Two days after check-in my daughter & I were getting large, 1 inch, roundish, red bites. By the end of the stay we each had 12-15 bites. I notified the rental contact (Maddalena) by text. The next morning she arrived (didn’t bother knocking) & walked right in to find me in my pajamas. She looked at the bites on my back & even took pictures. She pronounced them to be “mosquito bites”. There were no mosquitoes. Then she told me, You complain too much. She seemed upset when I asked her to replace the broken cappuccino machine (she indicated wasn’t working on our arrival). It was not replaced. The toilet in the master bath didn’t work. A plumber was called to repair it. I also noticed there was no top sheet on the bed, only a duvet, unless they washed the duvet after each renter (doubtful) this was not good. They had bed sheets delivered. Before we rented, I sent a VRBO note to the owner asking if this apartment was quiet - the response was “yes”. We were on the second floor above the retail level. Imagine being 12 feet up in the mall packed with people at Christmas, w/ delivery trucks, cars & motorbikes coming through. The worst was glass recycling trucks that come thru every morning between 7-8 am. Stone streets & buildings reverberate the sound of breaking glass as they dump bin after bin of empty bottles into open trucks. My family was startled awake everyday - you won't need to set an alarm clock here! After researching bed bugs, we were concerned about bringing them into our home. Not knowing for certain, we are following bed bug protocol. Our luggage has been sprayed w/ insecticide & is in storage. We have fumigated our clothes & are cycling them through a deep freeze for 5 days at 0F. We have also fumigated other items from the trip & cleaned it all, and have thrown some items away. We have tried to contact the owner via VRBO (8 days ago, no response) to reach a resolution (a partial refund to cover the cost of our Bed Bug eradication). There has been no response. I have photos & video of all of this. We have enjoyed many homes via VRBO/homeaway. This owners lack of response/lies are unacceptable. VRBO shouldn’t allow them to post rentals!!
Overall very nice apartment. The only issue was workers in building and start at 7AM, so noisy especially side away from street. Other tthan that loved the place. tx George
