Chicago, Illinois
Art-filled galleries. Bustling cafes. Posh boutiques. The Opal is at the heart of River North. This five-story brick building is covered in large windows, mirroring the beautiful skyscrapers around it. Inside, chic decor, in-suite laundry, and a fully equipped kitchen complete your apartment. Step outside, and you’ll be amidst endless dining and entertainment. The cavatelli from Quartino Ristorante is our favorite guilty pleasure. Or, if you’d prefer a home-cooked meal, there’s a Whole Foods Market right down the street. Take your time wandering around the Museum of Contemporary Art or the City Gallery inside a historic water tower. Experience Chicago with a comfortable stay at The Opal.

Home Truths
There's no cable. We've provided a Roku for streaming.
Due to the central location and renovations on the ground floor, noise may be present. Noise machines are available upon request.
I made my reservation with VRBO. I didn't like the company that held our reservation (not VRBO). Was my reservation sold to someone else? Communication was confusing and delayed. I did not like this reservation logistics and communication. No decaf coffee. One herbal tea bag for four days. I wouldn't rent it again honestly. I am not their guest. Bare minimum kitchen supplies. No serving bowls. Had ice trays but no one put any water in them. Loud dishwasher. Poor bathroom sink drainage. No accent pillows or throws which made the space feel cold.
Nice and convenient
Our stay was fine, unit was clean, checkin a breeze. Just an fyi, this building seems to be all corporate housing and VRBO rentals so the unit has what you need (towels, soap) but it’s the minimum. The one bedroom in this unit has a funny shape so you need to climb over the bed to get to the nightstand on the other side. There were a lot of what looked like luggage marks on the walls probably because the bedroom has such an odd shape. I think the unit is fine for 2 people but I think 4 would be cramped. The outside noise was the only real issue. We were there on a Friday and Saturday night. It is very very loud outside this unit on the street and parking lot below. The windows are not soundproof and a lot of hot rodders frequent the area. That combined with people playing loud music in their cars in the parking lot below and I was woken up several times each night of our stay. Might not be an issue if you are staying during the week but it was loud on a summer weekend.
This will be our go to stay whenever we come to Chicago for sure
We stayed at this property around Thanksgiving 2022, seems to be a new property and it was very clean. Easy access to all the Magnificent Mile and other local amenities. Check in process was easy as it was all automated. Going to the local museums best to have a Lyft. As usual, finding parking will be a challenge.
We were impressed with every step of this process and thrilled with the actual rental. We have rented all over the country and this was by far one of the cleanest and most well appointed units we've stayed in. I have been recommending it to everyone and we will absolutely book for future stays.
