Smith Mountain Lake w/ Private Beach ONLY 2 people

Check in was simple and easy. There is not a stove or oven to cook on only a microwave. You have to bring something to cook on or use the grill outside. I’m glad I brought a hot plate to cook on because at approximately 7 pm the sprinkler came on and wet the entire grill. The private beach was cute but wasn’t so private. The host that actually lives upstairs was using the beach with a friend during our stay. Also the entire place isn’t yours just the basement. The dog that he said would stay with him, he let him out on to the driveway. Whenwe returned from our store run the dog was loose and its huge. Overall we made the best of it. It was relaxing we enjoyed the pool table and the sunset/sunrise.

The listing did not include that the location of the “apartment “ was the basement of the hosts. The hosts were pleasant but there were lots of rules.

I greatly appreciated and enjoyed my stay here. It's always a little odd to think of the owner as being on-site while vacationing but that was not the case here. He was a very nice man and sociable. He made sure our outside area was clean and checked the dock and beach area for us. The area where we stayed was nicely kept and we loved the little patio. The weather, lake and environment was perfect for our stay and I would stay here again!

Was a nice place to get away for a weekend. Had a homey feel. Very nice private location and view of the lake.

My sister and I came for a 3 day getaway. When we got there, we were locked out. It was pouring rain and we had to wait for The owner to go through HIS part of the house to unlock it from the inside! There was no lock on the door leading downstairs to our unit to keep him from coming down anytime, yet there was a lock on his side to keep us out of the upstairs! We Felt very unsafe there at night since we are both seniors. A cleaning fee was attached to my cost that I paid but the unit wasn’t cleaned for me upon entering. Sticky stains on the kitchen counter, strands of black hair in tub, spots of toothpaste on bathroom mirror, freshly cut hair in the barstool seat. Coffee pot had mold in it. Playing cards and other dirt and trash behind the TV. (Which kept cutting in and out while trying to watch) couldn’t enjoy the TV programs at all. There was so much dust covering everything that my asthma flared up and I couldn’t breathe inside the house. The sheets were clean but old and faded with bleach stains all over them. I slept on the pullout couch and itched all night and until I took a shower. We were simply forced to cut our trip short due to our discomfort level. We couldn’t even get the sliding patio door open because it’s off track. I’m surprised that VRBO would sponsor a rental such as this. No standards whatsoever! Disgusting!

While the view is beautiful and we overall enjoyed the stay, it could have been cleaner. I was disappointed with the condition of the bathroom and lack of towels. There was also no way to control the temperature. Also, no toaster oven as listed but rather just a toaster, which makes a huge difference when you buy food to heat in a toaster oven. The property is located on a beautiful lake and could be wonderful if some of the money charged for the stay is put back in to the little things.

Lake was beautiful and being that close was great. It’s a plus to be that close to the state park.

We stayed one night only because there was no stove to prepare meals on site. Otherwise the property is OK. We sat on the dock and dangled legs in the water to about mid shin for 15 minutes. We both have rashes up to mid shin, still being treated a week later. SML is completely saturated with the algae bloom and is dangerous for any use anywhere.. Be warned.

We enjoyed the location. The property is beautiful. Enjoyed our visit. Will visit again.
