Outstanding service! They have a concierge chat an we were informed and confirmed from there. Excellent service since the moment you arrive. Facilities are very clean and personnel willing to give us a good service. We will be back soon!
The place breathe taking the minute you stepped off your balcony
The apartment was sparkling clean and comfortable. A/C, beautiful sliding doors onto the patio/balcony, good kitchen and living room and bathroom. Bed was very comfortable. The kitchen could use a few items: there are nonstick fry pans, but only metal utensils which will damage the pans -- so a few teflon spatulas would be helpful. Ditto with a juice squeezer of some sort. The restaurant that is part of the complex is good; we ate there for breakfast once, and dinner once, and were happy with the food. The infinity pools are lovely. And one can watch whales, with binoculars, from the apartment balcony or from the terrace by the pool. We saw plenty of activity daily. We also highly recommend Kim Bedall, at Whale Watch Samana, for a great and conscientious whale-watch tour with naturalists who love whales. Got to see a 4-week old calf breaching multiple times on one tour, it was very exciting. Thank you to the folks at Vista Mare for your friendliness and helpfulness, and for the beautiful place to stay.
I spent two weeks in this beautiful paradise I am already looking to go back. Best beaches, food, pool view was great, room service was awesome, Staff was very helpful and pleasant. The view was amazing one of the most romantic places to be with your loved one.
We stayed in 4 different places in a two week recent trip to DR and by far, this was the best. We could see whales from our balcony. The staff is very professional and thoughtful. The two infinity pools are perfect. The view of the bay and low mountains that ring the bay make for gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. Our apartment was well equipped, tastefully designed, with tall ceilings and a large footprint of bedroom, bath and living room/kitchen plus large outdoor deck. Not to mention 2 beaches! We will definitely return.
My fiancee and I were blown away by the views of our condo. We felt very secure here and enjoyed the service, minus not having the wifi working at all. The walk to the beach can be deathly, but it is definitely worth it! Food at the restaurant was great and staff! Condo was in great condition and very spacious for 2 people. We would definitely recommend a suite with a hot tub next time :) Overall, I would give a perfect 5 if the wifi worked, since it was an integral planning piece for our excursion. Cheers!
The views are addicting. The humpbacks are visible (binoculars) from a large balcony off the bedroom and the living area. The unit has daily maid service, which is excellent. The AC is beyond excellent. The staff was consistently friendly and helpful. The pool is well maintained with another pool and cool jaquzzi below. The beaches are very private, but 88 or 112 steps down and up. We are mid range and it is worth the walk. The restaurant is very good, but options may be limited. Negatives: Very limited housewares. No salt No pepper No anything. Simple cooking and serving options were limited The grocery is across from Scotia Bank and they are very helpful. Know your currency exchange rates and possibly convert some for gas stations.
We arrived at Vista Mare after dark (after a slightly harrowing drive avoiding motoconchos and buses...), unaware of what lay before us, and awoke the next morning to the most spectacular sweeping views of Samana Bay. Vista Mare is a gem of a hotel with comfortable accommodations, a good restaurant and two beautiful private beaches. It is impeccably maintained. We took day trips to Las Galeras, Las Terrenas, Cayo Levantado, and went into Santa Barbara de Samana often for meals, and each time we returned to Vista Mare we knew we'd made an excellent decision. If you're looking for all-inclusive bustle and entertainment, this is not the place for you; but if you're looking for a beautiful, peaceful place to relax, you can't go wrong here. Be advised that the photos are of a representative unit, but all are similarly furnished, and a car is a must if you want to get around.
Our stay at Vista Mare was amazing and my husband and I would love to return there in the future. We visited in January and had good weather about 75% of the time. It sprinkled almost every morning, but the afternoons were very sunny and the temperature was perfect (high 60s, low 80s). The hotel was almost empty for most of our trip, which was very nice because it felt very quiet and private. There was almost no one at the beaches and very few people in the restaurant. However, on the last few days more people showed up, and on our last night there was a large party with very loud music playing at the pool. It continued all night, and there was no where to go in the restaurant to get away from the loud music and have a quiet dinner. (I found out l later that January 21st is Our Lady of Altagracia Day.) The food we ate during our stay was all very good. The fresh fruit in our kitchen on the day we arrived was some of the most delicious fruit I have ever tasted. Likewise, the food at the restaurant was gourmet quality, reasonably priced (US$ 9 for a pasta dish) and the service was exceptional. My husband and I speak very limited Spanish, but the friendly servers spoke some English, so this was not a problem. We also ate some delicious dinners in Samana. Vista Mare itself is an amazingly beautiful place. Each unit has a balcony that has a breathtaking view that overlooks the beach and gets plenty of sunshine all day long. The resort is built onto the side of a very steep hill which makes for incredible views from the restaurant and pool at the top of the hill. We watched whales from our breakfast table all week long. The hill drops more than 200 hundred feet from the main gate to the beach. We are young and healthy so this was not a problem for us, although I would not recommend this place for people with bad knees or who can't climb more than a few flights of stairs. The room was cleaned everyday and the maid even tended to our dishes. All the employees at Vista Mare were very friendly and very professional. Humberto and Jose, who work at the restaurant, were excellent. The front desk concierge spoke enough English to make up for our poor Spanish skills, and the maids and security guards always greeted us with a smile. Vista Mare is gated and most of the units are set back from the road. There are security guards stationed around the property, which contributed to the overall feeling of safety.
My wife and I spent a week at Vista Mare after two days in Santo Domingo. We had a great time. The unit is just fabulous for two people. The king-sized bed and daily maid service were just right. We loved the balcony that looked out over Samana Bay. We spent several cocktail hours at sunset there enjoying the wonderful view. We even ate two meals out there after enjoying several restaurants in Samana for larger meals. The private beach at Vista Mare was empty during our one-week stay although we did a lot of exploring: Playa Fronton, whale watching El Limon donkey ride, etc. We loved the Dominican Republic and the friendly people. We also spent a week in Punta Cana as part of this trip and liked the Samana area better. Will plan to go back some time in the future.
