Coastal Garden - Anchor Pier Lodge - Meredith Lodging

You’ll enjoy charming accommodations and a fantastic view of a bustling fishing harbor with a stay in Coastal Garden, a spacious studio right on Newport’s Historic Bayfront. With sea lions barking from the jetty, large boats motoring past, and seagulls wheeling through the sky, you’ll enjoy a unique, ever-changing show from your bay-front deck each day. The mural of a leaping whale and the landing dock for Marine Discovery Tours below you provide extra local color—you may find yourself signing up for a whale-watching tour or fishing trip to get further acquainted with your surroundings. Your adorable studio includes a sumptuous queen bed, a gas fireplace, a TV, and a sweet twin bed tucked into the window nook overlooking the harbor. A tiny kitchenette supplies all you’ll need for coffee, drinks, and snacks, and a small dining table gives you a spot to enjoy breakfast or takeout from local restaurants.

Newport’s Historic Bayfront is right out your door, with a smorgasbord of eating options, colorful murals, and unique shops; the bustle of activity as the day’s catch comes in off the boats reminds you that this is a working marine town. Enjoy seafood from Clearwater Restaurant, Local Ocean, or Ocean Bleu Seafoods at Gino’s, or bar fare from Rogue Ales Bayfront Public House or the Barge Inn Tavern. Walk further down the Bayfront to see the marina full of fishing boats, or up the hill to enjoy learning about the area’s history in the Pacific Maritime and Heritage Center. Hop in the car, and the Yaquina Lighthouse, Oregon Coast Aquarium, Hatfield Marine Science Center, and Nye Beach are minutes away. After you catch the sunset at the beach, you’ll happily return to your cozy studio, switch on the sound machine to mute the barking of sea lions, and drift off to rejuvenating sleep for your next round of coastal exploration.

Anchor Pier Lodge has five adjoining homes, so you can invite your friends to join you at Ocean’s Edge, Bayfront History, Surfer Dude or Captain’s Quarters!

Great location. Perfect view. Enjoyed the sea lions and their continuous barking Surprisingly noise machine blocked out all noise at night, so slept good. Could use new mattresses! Old and lumpy. Front entry stairway carpeting needs a through deep clean. All-in-all a sweet place. Good memories made. Thank you.

Nice room with a great view of the bay. Everything was very clean and comfortable. The room was noisy due to the many sea lions in the area, but ear plugs were provided as well as a white noise machine which helped a lot. I do think that listing it as having a kitchenette is a bit of a stretch. There is a hotel/dorm mini fridge and a microwave located across from the bathroom sink. I personally do not consider that a kitchenette. There are several local restaurants within walking distance, however, and the two that we tried were both very good. Overall, a fun stay!

Clean room, cute. Great view out the window and door. Wish we’d been made aware of the volume of the sea lions and that we’d be advised the day we received the combo to get in that we’d need to pick up ear plugs and a sound cancelling unit in the room. Other than that very cute and very good location.

My daughter picked this property to stay at because of the little window seat/bed which she wanted to have all to herself. She loved it! We heard a few sea lions but not many. It was fun to watch the boats go by. The deck needed to be cleaned though.

This was the perfect spot for a lovely solo trip for myself to Newport. The room was in a great location and beautifully decorated. The daybed in the window is great for enjoying a coffee and a book. The balcony overlooking the bay is a great amenity as well. I would definitely stay here again!

The one big negative is parking! You have to pay for where you park and have to move your car every 4 hours. The place should offer some kind of pass for renters.

Our stay in the garden room at Meredith Lodging far exceeded our expectations. The room was clean and cozy. We absolutely LOVE visiting the sea lions at Newport and being able to enjoy them day and night was the highlight of the trip. The bayfront is a very special place for my husband and me and we will definitely return hopefully sooner than later!

Pros: exceptionally clean. Nice view. Lots of storage. Great viewing deck. Cute. Parking OK if early in the day. Fans, including a ceiling fan. Comfortable. Fun to see the lights on the water, and to see the boats go right by our deck at night. We didn't mind the sea lions; their conversations lulled us to sleep. The bayfront is fun and interesting. Cons: Must pay for on-street parking between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. from May through October and on weekends year around. There is free parking on the very steep hill across the street, but it fills up quickly in the summer. We love the bayfront, but one day of it is enough - we were reluctant to leave because of the parking issue. The only groceries on the bayfront are at a small convenience store. However, these issues aside, this is a nice little place to stay.

We could not get the fireplace to work. Called the number given but were unlucky to get instructions because the call was from the car and they lady could not hear us. A sheet with instructions would have helped. Lock on the balcony door only turned around and around but did not lock. There was not enough regular coffee. All was clean, shower could use an anti slip matt.

This place was so cute and cozy! Our daughter loved having her own bed to look out the window. You could definitely hear the sea lions, but not too bad. They left in the evening so didn’t bother us while we were sleeping. Overall, lovely stay, despite the rain.

I rented this place for my sister and her friend while we visited Newport. Sister declared it totally cute. The view of the bay is excellent and the whole Bayfront neighborhood is right outside the door. The sea lions are a bit much but for just two nights, they were more funny than anything else.
