Campbell River, British Columbia
Private-access apartment on 2nd floor, 2 bedrooms with additional office room that can accommodate another bed, kitchen, bathroom, and large room with wonderful views of the marina, the ocean and the islands beyond. Funky and charming, and within walking distance to almost everything.
I would rate this place a 4 or 5 star, it is fantastic, but there are a few small areas that could use improvement. Overall, as 1 adult couple we found the pros far outweigh any small cons. Pros Location location location!!!! Walking distance to restaurants and shops. Right above the marina office too, location was perfect for us. We’d head over to “Shot in the dark” for some brunch, then to Tyee Marine, bought ourselves some crab traps and a measurer, walked back to marina, set our traps. After we caught our dinner all we had to do was go upstairs to our apartment. Fantastic location I was tickled pink about. We needed a kitchen, this place had it. Full fridge and freezer, stove/oven. Microwave. Pots and pans, utensils. Very pleased with cleanliness. Washer and dryer for laundry, and laundry detergent. I watched from the bathroom as a couple sea lions played right outside our window. Free parking Cons 2 of the 3 beds are air mattresses. Which is only a problem if you have more than one adult couple staying at the place. Naturally we chose the real bed, but if we were there with another couple and got the air mattress, I woulda been a little uncomfortable sleeping. They are all queens. An upgrade to another real king mattress would really make this place the best!! Some staples were missing, like salt and pepper. We bought a big container of salt and left it for next people. We had to buy groceries anyways. Sometimes parking was full
Unique and pleasant property. Clean, had everything we needed. Very well lit and very convenient location. Seals came and played outside our window almost every day. A couple of things you should note: the property is close to the ferry docks and it can be a bit noisy when the ferry is loading (motor vehicle traffic and ferry announcements). It didn't bother us, but might bother some. Also, only one of the beds is a 'real' bed. The others are inflatable. We found them quite comfortable, but again, some might not.
We were hopeful this would be an interesting place to stay but ran into several issues with the property and manager. On the plus side, the location is great and the view is nice. On the negative side: the property is exposed to the ferry dock and the marina office with minimal sound proofing, both are very loud in the day and night time. The whole place was dirty. The place is sparsely furnished with some broken furniture, the sheets were uncomfortable and pilled sheets, there were no duvets and, as mentioned in other comments, 2 of the beds are air mattresses. To gain access for check in, we had to message the host multiple times. The host refused to communicate through Vrbo and the cleaning people were not able to clean the suite so we offered to clean for reimbursement of the cleaning fees. We cleaned more than one stays worth of grime and dirt, especially in the bathroom. The host agreed to reimburse the cleaning fee and then never followed through and stopped responding to messages after we checked in. Overall a very disappointing stay especially given how expensive it was.
The owner was unhelpful, absent and borderline rude once we paid. It says he lives in New Mexico but when we went to the property two days ago and found out who owns everything there (from his own lips). Pretty sure the listed owner is an alias. The owner lied effortlessly to me three times so it is not a big stretch. We basically walked in and then out of the property (in under 5 minutes). The place was disgusting. We were in shock...absolute filth! The stove top was covered with grease and grime.. The fridge was full of partially eaten food, take out containers, at least 4 partial mayo bottles, open drinks and more. The floor was covered with lint, dust and food. Beds were inflatable airbeds, sheets in balls in corners, thin brown foam toppers, open garbage cans full of personal items. We called both the owner and VRBO immediately and followed up with pictures. VRBO was a waste of time, I spent almost 7 hours on hold over numerous days, talking to them or at least trying to. We were disconnected three times and they never called back as they had promised. They did not offer any refund from their portion of our booking fee. VRBO is owned by Expedia group...I expected more protection. There was none. To date there has also been no consequence to the owner for his gross property misrepresentations. He initially promised to refund me on the phone and via a text (I have the text conversation). He then disappeared. He will not respond to emails or texts or even calls from VRBO. The place was supposed to be Covid clean...what a joke. VRBO is not allowing me to post my Facebook info. I have the pics to support what I am saying (so do they). Seems like you cannot post pics in these reviews. In order to get this posted I had to resubmit it to meet their standards. We are out 3 nights of fees and did not spend five minutes in the place . The owner has ethical and moral issues... Renters you have been warned!
A few of us were in for chartered fishing trip for a few days. The location couldn't be better. However, there is only one real bed. The other bedroom is just an inflatable bed. The third bed is also an inflatable, but has a leak (owner is aware of) and have to constantly pump it up (even in the middle of the night). The couch folds into a bed, but it was dirty. Couldn't use it. The fridge has ton of left over food from previous people and it hasn't been cleaned out. The place could use some TLC inside. Owner did not reach out to us for check in. I messaged in vrbo and no response. I had to personally call his cell phone to get the check in access information. There is no information once you get inside about check out process like garbage, dirty sheets etc. Overall, the price reflected the quality of the stay. Location is excellent. If you just need a roof over your head to sleep this place is for you. If you want to bring your wife and kids, this place won't get you any brownies.
Air beds - NOT, maybe for surprise guests but not a 2-bedroom unit. Table should not be in a dark corner, out in the middle of the loft area with chairs. Blankets - could use some. Kitchen very functional but really could use more dishes and cutlery. But If I was going to charter a fish boat, this is where I would go, but not if you're bringing your own boat.
Very private, clean as can be, one beautiful location. Had a couple fishing friends over and enjoyed fish and chips from the restaurant downstairs. Fabulous
Thank you! My sons had an amazing time, especially waking to the seal family playing! Was central and easy access. Grateful for marina owner to be so kind and helpful.
Bright, incredible views and close to conveniences. Really enjoyed our meals from Dockside Fish and Chips and Quay West Kitchen. The last evening the rain poured with thunder and lightening and we were treated afterwards with a beautiful rainbow and sunset! The suite was very spacious and comfortable to be . The kitchen would benefit from more dishes and utensils. Also having condiments such salt, pepper and a small amount of sugar. Maybe even a few teabags. Quality of air mattress for a bed was passable but did not meet our expectations. Would also be helpful to have a designated parking spot as at times we needed to park at different location as the lot was full.
Everything bunch of guys need for golf n beer weekend
Parking was a bit tough but location was great. Unit is spacious and the views are nice. Definitely need real beds though. Was a bit rough for a bunch of old guys with bad backs haha! Communication was quick and easy!
LIKES: -Large, spacious, bright with lots of windows -Clean with basic household supplies -Comfortable living room chairs -Friendly & helpful marina manager -Comfortable beds - 2 air mattress + 1 conventional mattress -Very unique stay + experience, close to everything DISLIKES: -Aggravation on arrival due to key not being accessible as stated by host: we had to contact a 3rd party, the marina manager, to get in. Resolved within 1 hour. -Host was not immediately accessible despite informing him of approximate time of arrival: not reassuring for 2 female travellers -Shower stall grime -Wall stains above bathroom window -Dust in kitchen -Would have been helpful to have printed instructions within apartment, e.g., how to access wifi, the access code to marina after-hours, recommendations for local eateries, etc. SUGGESTIONS: -1 full-length mirror -recycling bins -more ambient lights e.g., lamps vs overhead lighting (though not a deal breaker) While we appreciated the complimentary shampoo & shower gel, more gender-neutral products would be a better idea (because women don't want to smell like Old Spice 'Timber' or Dragonblast' or Krakengard' LOL)
