Stayed Dec 31, 1969My husband and I really enjoyed our recent stay in Maragogi in this apartment. The owner was responsive to our emails, and the caretaker stopped by every day to make sure everything was fine. Since we don't speak Portuguese, communications were sometimes challenging and sometimes funny, but it all worked out well. The apartment itself is very comfortable and the sea breezes kept it cool for us. It's simple but clean and fine. Plenty of dishes, a good size fridge, a comfortable bed, etc. We had access to portable plastic chairs and a beach umbrella as well as a hammock that can hang in the porch area. We could walk to town on the beach and there were several nice places to eat; perhaps less than there would be in the high season, but still all very nice. And the beach couldn't be lovelier. My husband was particularly enchanted with a horse that grazed each day in the grasses in front of the house. He also enjoyed digging for clams which we cooked and ate for lunch. I was excited to see a colorful sea slug, and to find my first ever living conch and sand dollar. Low tide on the beach is really interesting. Bring surf shoes for the reefs. The internet was not working when we were there, but several places in town provided free internet and we found we didn't miss it. But apparently it works off the satellite dish. For tourists coming from the USA, do be aware that you should bring your own towels or, as we did, purchase some inexpensive ones in town. You also may find your language skills are challenged. I was able to get by pretty well with a sort of Portuguese twist on my fairly strong Spanish. Don't expect to find many English speakers, though there are some. You will also need to deal with the process of making a direct payment to the owner's account. You pretty much need to do this at a Banco do Brasil branch, and probably can't do it until you actually get to Brazil. It's also hard to explain what you want to do at the Bank so ask for an English speaker. Once you get to the English speaking teller, though, it's easy and secure.
