Casa del Arte is situated in the quiet & beautiful medieval quarter of Vejer, 2 mins from the delightful central square - Plaza de España - with its amazing fountain and its restaurants and bars. It is on the first floor of one of the most historic townhouses in Vejer. The common patio is entered through thick wooden doors and then a wrought iron gateway. The flat blends traditional Moorish features with modern facilities. The interior has been completely renovated, utilising the large floor area to stunning effect. Hand-made terracotta floor tiles run throughout the property, with hand-stained doors and Arabic metal lanterns giving their own special and individual touch.

The thick walls of this historic building protect those inside from the Summer heat so that you feel secure and comfortable inside this hidden gem. Inside the apartment there is a wonderful feeling of space and light. Through each window is a wrought-iron balcony with typical Spanish roll-down shutters. From the living room you can sit and look over the bougainvillea-covered roof of the house next door to the city walls and the countryside down below. The whole flat is bathed in that special light of the Costa de la Luz.

Both bedrooms are a good size and have double beds and balconies. There is also a sofa-bed in the living room that can be used for extra guests.

The kitchen is large and again has a balcony. It also has a washing machine, oven, ceramic hob, toaster, juicer and the usual pots and pans etc. In the living room is a flat-screen TV and blu-ray player, plus a sound system that takes an iPhone or iPod. There are also books and DVDs which guests are welcome to borrow.

The bathroom has a shower over the bath and towels and bedlinen are provided.

High on a hill, nestled between the sierras and the sea, Vejer de la Frontera is a beautifully preserved, white hilltop village. It was voted the prettiest white hilltop town in Spain and a heritage site by the Spanish Government in 1978. Vejer still retains a potent Moorish character so with its Christian churches and convents, Moorish architecture and a Jewish quarter, it is a microcosm of Spain's colourful history.

The wonderful thing about being in Vejer is how quickly one forgets the hustle and bustle of life in the city. The pace of life here is quintessentially Andalucian. The day often starts lazily, with a typical breakfast of freshly-squeezed orange juice, cafe con leche and tostada with tomato, garlic and olive oil, which you can have in one of many cafés.

This was a wonderful place to stay. Right in the heart of the old town - the apartment was bright, airy and had a nice feel.

We stayed 3 months in this apartment and enjoyed it immensely. It’s a spacious apartment with tall ceilings and beautiful light all day through brand new French doors that open to let in the breeze. It retains many old features including wooden doors and tile floors. The eat-in kitchen is very large and well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, utensils, etc. We were able to easily cook most meals at home. The beds were very comfortable and there was an abundance of good towels and linens. The apartment has an IDEAL location in the old town of this charming pueblo blanco. It’s close to the Plaza España but equally close to the Plazuela, which we found ourselves visiting often. Be prepared for the local church bells to ring from 8:00am to midnight. The roof deck has a wonderful view over the Spanish countryside. You need to climb up steep wooden stairs to reach it. We ate some meals up on the roof deck at the dining table, but replacing the other furniture and cushions would really make the experience top notch. The owner is very responsive and retains a handyman in town who arrived within 5 minutes one day when we were having trouble with opening the lock on the unit’s front door. There is no street parking in the old town but we were able to find parking easily every night on the street in the new town or down the hill in the parking lots. We never had more than a 10 minute walk home.Great spot. Don't hesitate to book it!

Spacious apartment in a historic tenement in the center of casco historico. In addition to its fantastic location, the apartment has a cool Moroccan-Andalusian feel that is typical of the region. Well equipped. Close to restaurants but at the same time without their bustle under the windows. Great communication with the owner. We definitely recommend it!

The apartment is tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable with all the mod cons needed and with enough space for 4 people. Loved the fact local restaurants literally on the doorstep. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

We loved this apartment, it's spacious and well equipped with nice decoration. Vejer is charming with amazing views of Africa and plenty of nice restaurants, we stayed for a month in winter when some places were closed but there were enough places open to enjoy our stay. Good base to visit beaches; Tarifa, Bolonia, Conil, Zahara de los atunes, cities including Jerez and Cadiz and Natural parks

As s family of 5 we had a wonderful stay in Ivan's flat which is perfectly located in the pretty old town. Access to shops, restaurants, bars and the beach (El Palmar) is all very easy. A couple more fans would have helped but otherwise no complaints at all.

We stayed for 5 nights in this delightful apartment in the heart of old Vejer, which manages to be close to the action yet very peaceful. The flat is spacious, light and cool, with an excellent kitchen, and the views from the windows and roof terrace are lovely. It was great to be able to step out of the front door and straight into the old streets, with plenty of excellent bars around. We always love the Bodeguita, but the revamped market was a treat; open in the evenings for lots of different types of food, it was absolutely buzzing. A great stay and we will definitely be back.

Lovely old apartment in the heart of the old town only a few minutes walk to bars (less than 1 minute to the nearest), restaurants & little shops, 10 to the nearest supermarket. Great views from the shared roof terrace too. Our stay has been over 3 months & it has really felt like home & although winter time we have had little need for the gas fire. The kitchen is modern and spacious with all mod-cons. Ivan kindly allowed us to keep our bikes here which has been brilliant for exploring the wonderful countryside and coast. No need for a car as also there are frequent buses to Cadiz, Sevilla & south to Tarifa & Algeciras. Also, as its in the old town there is no parking nearby, its just possible to drive outside to unload. Margerita the cleaner is really friendly & helpful. Our favourite bar is El Central, 2 minutes walk, family run with lovely friendly staff and superb tapas. The old town is quiet in winter and in January & February some of the bars are closed but we managed to find good (& cheap) ones 10-15 minutes walk in the 'new town'. Thoroughly recommend the apartment - when we return to Vejer I would happily rent it again.

I have been using 'owners direct' for quite a number of years now and have found its quite usual for owners to put the best light they can on their properties. For instance one place in Berlin neglected to mention that the apartment was next door to a cemetery, in another, again in Berlin, they failed to mention there was no bedrooms and the single bed was actually the sofa, another place, in Vejer this time (which looked great in the pictures) had a distinct waft of sewer in several rooms, but every place i had rented i have enjoyed myself tremendously, despite the slight niggles. In Ivan's case, his apartment, which i stayed in for a month, was the first time that the actuality has outstripped the description. Its big and spacious. The kitchen area with dining table is suitable for any modern home and the abundance of French windows in every room brings in Vejer's beautiful light. God Knows how ancient the building is but the apartment has been very tastefully modernised, keeping all the old floors, doors and high ceilings. The position is second to none, central, but yet quite as the grave (excuse the pun) at night. I would happily live in Ivan's apartment and thats the first time i have felt that way about any of the properties I have rented. I will be back
