We were only in the Darwin condo ten minutes when I could not breathe. The chlorine from the empty hot tub containing mold was overwhelming. We went to open windows and there were no screens. We called Vacasa and within 40 minutes we were relocated to a clean, fresh condo at Creekside. It was a life safer!
Bedroom window was open (and broken!) and couldn't be closed.... In Alaska in the winter!! Although the house did stay warm enough. Black mold on the drapes and carpet. Dirty soap bar and dirty towel hanging on the door in the bathroom. Completely broken TV and very weak wifi (it only worked in the bedroom or kitchen.) Cheap 3 dollar curtain rod repaired with duct tape instead of replaced? Lots of small damage throughout.... This place is rough and way outdated. (early 80's?) except... the bathroom which was remodeled. worst two things besides the TV... the hot tub was way to hot to even use and with no way to adjust the temp! Also the mirrors on top of the bed had no support and could easily break in half and decapitate someone! So go easy when roughhousing in that bed!
Great location in an incredible neighborhood.
When we arrived, the stairs were essentially impassible. They had not been cleared of snow, the snow had absorbed rain and been compressed into ice, forming an EXTREMELY slick 1” thick ice layer. All of us fell trying to climb them. Fortunately we had a shovel and could clear them. The danger of climbing the stairs was compounded by the darkness, because the outside lighting didn’t work. The outside lighting was in good company, because the main inside light also didn’t work. This light didn’t work because the light fixture has loose wiring. Because of the loose wiring in that fixture and lack of circuit diagram, it is unsafe to use any of the inside lights. The kitchen light seems to be on a separate circuit, but because the switch, fixture, and bulb are not matched, the light flickers. The unsafe wiring is especially unsafe because the smoke detector doesn’t work, or at least has been rendered inactive. The insufficient lighting must make things hard for the cleaners; but there was just enough light to see the food residue that had been wrapped up in the bedding of the sofa bed. The kitchen was generally clean. A little food residue on the floor and one filthy frying pan hiding deep in the cabinets, otherwise clean. Good thing only two of us were coffee drinkers, though; since there were only two coffee cups. The kitchen appliances were adequately clean and functional. Some of the reviews we read mentioned a hot tub, to be clear: the hot tub is not part of the rental at this time. It’s still there taking up space in the living room, just empty and covered. The heat and hot water work well. The master bedroom mattress is comfy. The sofa bed is acceptable (barely). The TV works, with cable and a couple of streaming services. The parking lot was reasonably well graveled from the second day on, and management arranged for clean bedding and sand for the stairs. What to bring: Ice cleats for your shoes Shovel and/or ice chipper Headlamps Coffee cups A lamp or two or three Other than the death stairs and the fire hazard, not too bad.
Needs a a cheat sheet on how to work the TV
Upon booking the property I observed the pictures of the place to have a large hot tub in the middle of the living room. When we arrived we found the hot tub to be empty so we contacted the company's 24hr service who then attempted to reach the property owners. The service noted that the hot tub was not checked as an amenity. No property owner ever got back to us. As we left the unit we could not get the outside stair light to function, all light switches were turned but it did not function. The stairs are very steep and covered with leaves (October). Making things rather precarious to navigate. The unit as a whole was outdated and old. All in all we were unsatisfied with our stay and will not be selecting this property again. However, the four cornered bed combined with the mirrored ceiling was an interesting twist.
We had a wonderful stay.
Great location and a wonderful host Will definitely stay here again
Lots of windows, nice layout, and well stocked. Fantastic location! Walked to Girdwood Brewing and then the Bake Shop the next morning.
This place was perfect for out mom and dad weekend getaway!! We had an amazing quite time!! Everything worked great had no issues!
Clean and complete. Adequate kitchen. Quiet and comfortable bed. Hot tub was a plus. Restaurants in town were great.
The place was in a great location easy walking to town and eateries. The place is not modern, but has all convinces you need. The hot tub is a bonus. It was clean and hot unlike some hot tubs. Overall, a cozy cabin feel with a great bed. I slept so good. I do think it was a little pricey, but maybe not stayed at a resort in Denali wasn't half as nice.
This was our first two nights in Alaska, great location for a late first night check-in and then a Train ride to Seward on the next day. We had just enough time to enjoy the hot tub. The kitchen was very handy to make breakfast in the mornings.
