The neighborhood
The apartments are located just over 20 minutes walk from the old town of Zadar. The promenade is very beautiful and you walk along the bay that separates the area from the old town. You can view the boats or visit one of the fine bars or cafes along the way. If you do not want to walk there are cheap city buses that take one to the city center and the opportunity to go rowing boat straight across the bay. This small boat trip, popularly known as "barkajoli" is for the townspeople of Zadar as cultural-bearing as the gondoliers are for the people of Venice. The trip is very picturesque and has been around for over 800 years.
The area itself is very beautiful, quiet and safe. You can safely walk around after darkness.
There are many, very affordable and good restaurants in the area, both the food and the wine are top class.
Zadar is a city with both spiritual and materialistic culture. Of course you can add that it is an excellent tourist resort. The city is a perfect place for anyone interested in archeology and architecture of the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
In the city center there is also the host-unique Sea Organ (which plays with the help of wind and waves), "The Square of the Five Wells", "The Captain's Tower", "The City Forum" (largest Roman Forum on this side of the Adriatic), St. Dunatus Church, Zadar city gate and city wall and the local market. There are also several theaters and museums (eg the Archaeological Museum and the Zadar National Museum).
