Set in an isolated position on Penlee Point, The Old Signal House is a stunning period property overlooking the sea and offers guests a unique break on a very special piece of the Cornish coastline.

Originally built as a home for the staff and families who manned the Eddystone Lighthouse, this three-bedroom apartment is arranged over two floors, with an open plan living area occupying the upper level. Beautifully furnished, with a bright and airy atmosphere throughout, the lounge has amulti-fuel burner and boasts sea views from nearly every angle, making it the perfect place to watch the changing moods of ocean.

The lovely Shaker style kitchen which is open plan with the dining room, has plenty of worktop space and is equipped with modern, integrated appliances and a range of utensils and crockery. Further wonderful views make cooking and entertaining a pleasure, and for those glorious summery evenings there’s a furnished front terrace where guests can enjoy a refreshment or two while taking in the ocean panoramas towards Plymouth Sound.

Surrounded by unspoiled countryside and wide sea views, it’s unsurprising that there are many wonderful walks in the area, the best of which is the 5-mile circular route along the coast path which passes right by the property’s front door. This stunning section of the South West Coast Path takes in the wild beauty of Rame Peninsula’s position in an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty with woodland and wildflowers to enjoy, as well as sandy bays and the historic villages of Kingsand and Cawsand.

Of course if you’d like to spend time on the beach during your stay, you’ll also have plenty of beautiful sandy stretches to choose from including Penlee Point Beach (just a short scramble along the path), Cawsand Bay and Kingsand Bay, and Whitsand Bay which at low tide sprawls for 4 shimmering miles.

A seasonal ferry from nearby Cawsand transports visitors to the Barbican in Plymouth during the summer months so for those who fancy a spot of shopping and culture this is a great way to spend the day. The trip takes about half an hour and the Barbican is a fun spot for all the family, with a range of bars and cafes and a small museum about the US Pilgrim’s Mayflower voyage. Plymouth itself offers a huge range of activities too, including the national marine aquarium, museums and art galleries, climbing walls, theatres and the Drake Centre shopping centre.

*Please note that the property is accessed via 82 steps, so wouldn't be suitable for guests with limited mobility.

Pets: 2 Pets accepted. Please advise the Luxury Coastal team directly if you would like us to host your pet after completing your booking. A fixed charge of £30 will be applicable for 1 or 2 pets and required before your stay. We will arrange and invoice with you directly upon booking confirmation.

Good Housekeeping Bond
We ask our guests for a £150 good housekeeping bond, which is pre-authorised against your card. This is in case there is any damage to the property during your stay. The money is simply reserved and then released afterwards if there is no claim. We will contact you nearer the time of your arrival to arrange this.

Came from the US and stayed for 3 weeks on my own in February. I had everything I needed to be comfortable for a long stay. I had no car and managed fine. I have no real mobility issues but am 62 not that fit and the stairs were no joke as someone else said. But not as bad as I thought they'd be. BUT there are 80 of them. Pictures are accurate, its a beautiful property. 2 floors, well equipped kitchen and dining room with fireplace on ground floor, 3 bedrooms and living room on main floor. Gorgeous walking/hiking trails! Waitrose delivered food (even down the 80 steps) With my walking speed it was a 30 - 45 minute walk (hilly but mostly flat dirt/gravel road) to: Grocery/convenience store Great coffee/cheese shop several good restaurants and pubs in Cawsand/Kingsand Several small beaches Cawsand ferry (seasonal only) to Barbican (lots of shops and restaurants) Bus stop which takes you to Cremyll ferry to Plymouth or just into Milford to a Co-Op and organic grocery or to Mt. Edgecombe House/Garden The windows are high and as another reviewer said, there isn't a place you can sit and look out at the coastline all that easily, but I propped some pillows up on the couch and was able to sit and watch the waves crash against the rocks on the rainy windy wintery days. Also, sitting on the bed in the back bedroom you can see the water. There is a rooftop deck with amazing views and the patio off the back is right there on the water. So lots of opportunities to take in the stunning landscape and water. And there is a fun back way to St Adelaide's Grotto! The property manager Shell is the best I've ever come across. She cares about the property and the guests and goes out of her way to make you comfortable. Some places you never hear back from the management, but if I had a question I heard back within an hour at most, usually faster. She went out of her way to make my stay feel like home. She even checked in on me periodically :) This was also my first time using Luxury Coastal and they were extremely responsive and helpful too.

Wonderful few days in this amazing house, stunning views.Beautiful unspoilt part of Cornwall. Due to the 86 steps to property not ideal for very young or the elderly.

We had a fantastic stay, even with the normal English weather, the views including Dolphins were excellent. The property itself is spacious and well maintained, with everything you need within. There is p;enty to do in and around the error. Good eating places in the local area. Only downside, is you need to be aware of the 82 steps down to the property, tough work getting back up.

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at the house in Penlee Point, Cornwall. The stunning ocean views and cozy atmosphere made it a perfect retreat. The accommodations were impeccable, and the attention to detail in the decor and amenities was impressive. The location provided a serene escape while still being close to local attractions. The hospitality of the staff added a personal touch to the experience. I would highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a memorable and relaxing getaway.

5 stars is basically not enough. This is a 10 star property for cleanliness and comfort. Beautiful idea of the welcome hamper. All credit to Michelle for her cleaning, property smelt beautiful. Pity we only stayed 3 nights but will be back. Slightly pricey as very remote but this didn't spoil anything. Couldn't fault the property or location

We had a great time. The house is amazing with a beautiful view. Next to the house is a private beach. You can walk in 15 min to Cawsand/Kingsand.

We had such a great long weekend, the area is really beautiful and the coastal path is literally on the doorstep. The local village of Cawsand is a 30 minute stroll away and well worth the leg stretch. The house is gorgeous and there’s everything you could possibly need, would highly recommend.

Our third visit - we still haven't got used to those steps but worth the exercise just for the views.

The house was perfect, comfortable, spacey, with sublime views. The (almost) private little bay for swimming was wonderful. We felt heartbroken to leave. Fab walking and great for dogs too.
