Lexington, Kentucky
The Howard was built in 1920 in the back yard of an c.1840 Antebellum Mansion on Lexington's swanky West Third Street. In fell into disrepair and we bought it in 2007. We turned the existing eight apartments into five renovated condos with all the modern amenities, but preserving all of the vintage charm. They are small and incredibly cozy with a great room with opening windows on the second floor.
We refinished the hardwood floors, cleaned all the window and door hardware, repaired windows, and fixed plaster. We hired one of Lexington's best architects to fit a modern kitchen into a vintage kitchen space. We fit in a laundry, dishwasher, beverage center and microwave that formerly only had a two burner stove and two cabinets.
This apartment is located on the second floor of the building. It is only 650 square feet, but thanks to our brilliant architect, it feels much larger.
We are confident that as you drive through the stone arches of Hampton Court you will realize what a special corner of Lexington it is, on the site of a former orphanage and alongside the oldest University west of the Alleghenies, Transylvania University.
PHOTOS: These photos are of the actual apartment. It is 650 sq ft (32.5 feet x 20 ft). If this seems too small for your stay, we completely understand. If you do not like what you see in the photos, we understand you choosing another property. We strive to please and feel that our apartment can fill a significant niche in Lexington travel, but realize others have varied needs not served by The Howard. Thanks to everyone who considers booking our corner of Lexington. We truly appreciate it!

Greatly impressed with owner. There was a mix up and she took total responsibility and made other arrangements for one night, also making up the difference in price! She wins the award in honesty and trustworthiness in my book! If you are hesitant or weary about renting from an individual, as I always am, be at peace with this person, and know you will be treated fairly.
This is the perfect place for a little get away - I almost hate to review it because I don't want it to be gone the next time I want to stay here! In an old building on a quiet court with beautiful houses and trees, tucked away and quiet, close to restaurants and downtown, and a great price on top of it all. Updated and modernized for every comfort, but with the old charm that fits the building. Teri was wonderful to work with. Thanks for sharing this hidden gem!
Comfortable, well appointed, tastefully furnished, quiet historic property. Comfortable bed, nice shower, well equipped kitchen. Loved the neighborhood. Within easy walking distance of downtown.
We enjoyed our stay in Hampton Court @ the Howard. The Court itself offered a quiet place to walk our pup. The apartment was very clean, well appointed, and comfortable. One of the neighbors was planting flowers and hostas, so even the exterior was pretty and inviting. It turned out to be a short walk to a choice of restaurants, and we chose Blue Heron , where we could sit on the porch with our pup and enjoy the wonderful food and mint julep! Thank you for having us.
My mother and I loved the historic area and the cozy updated space. It is clean, well appointed, and full of charm.
My husband and I had a lovely stay at The Howard earlier this month. We live right outside of Lexington, so it may not have seemed like we were getting away, but we absolutely did! The apartment is so comfortably and tastefully appointed, it's a treat just to be there! The architecture is such a delight; we really appreciated the preservation efforts of the owners! Rather than running all over, we chose to stay in, cook, and just relax. The kitchen had everything we needed! The next morning we took a walk and enjoyed seeing the neighborhood. We dubbed Hampton Court the Savannah District of Lexington! And walking over to nearby Gratz Park for May Fest was the perfect way to wrap up our time here! We have already recommended The Howard to our friends, and will definitely be back soon!
Lovely flat in a beautiful area of Lexington's historic district. Easy to walk to many activities and bars/restaurants, as well as the visitors center. Really appreciated local info and recommendations from the owner - Spaldings was definitely worth the wait!
Wonderful property in lovely neighbourhood - walked everywhere. So convenient!
We rented this property in order to attend a UK Men's basketball game at Rupp. The apartment is beautiful, well-appointed, and cozy. We really appreciated all the historic preservation. The bed is super comfortable and the linens are first rate. We came in late and I was worried as I didn't stop for essentials. An example of this owner's thoughtfulness for her guests: Starbucks coffee (with cream in the fridge!) so we didn't have to venture out into the cold the next morning to get a cup. Also, the off-street private parking is a definite bonus for downtown. The walk to Rupp was short and convenient. All in all, a great experience.
Owner was very accommodating and helpful. The condo was ideally located and well furnished. It was clean and comfortable. It was also quiet and in the historic area. Def a great rental!
