Salida, Colorado
Have you ever been walking along in the woods and suddenly things are just different
Good different. Greener. More alive. We call it Spruce Pocket. Spruce Pocket is a 4 bedroom, 3 bath ranch style home with a finished basement. We are about 2 miles from the amazing little town of Salida. The property is within 150 yards of the upper Arkansas River which is one of the premier white water rafting rivers in the US. This section of the Arkansas is also a Gold Medal Fishery. If you have a major league arm and the wind is at your back you can launch a rock from our spacious redwood deck into the river. The Salida Trail System is accessible within a mile challenging accomplished mountain bikers as well as road rookies. Chaffee County has the most 14000' peaks in Colorado. The master bedroom has a breathtaking view of some the most beautiful peaks of the Sangre de Christo Mountain Range. The house sits on 4 acres, but because of the proximity to an old 62 acre dairy, it feels like a whole lot bigger. We run our horses on part of the old dairy. If you bring your horses, our pasture gate accesses about 400 square miles of state and federal land. Then there is a 9 hole golf course about 2 miles away. If you are more civilized, there are some great art galleries in Colorado's largest historic district. Restaurants are good and a couple are great. Spruce Pocket is 22 miles from the Monarch Ski Area. It is also 82 miles (plus or minus) from Breckenridge, Copper and Crested Butte...pretty sure. The important consideration is that you never see I 70. The house is pretty cool too. There is a beautiful stone (real stone) fireplace in the family room and a large screen TV for those who are not into gazing into the flames. The master bedroom has those stunning views, access to the deck and hot tub and a tiled bathroom which is to die for. If you really like tiled bathrooms. There is a guest bedroom downstairs with its own bath. An "exercise room" is available for the gym enthusiasts. Spruce Pocket is beautifully landscaped. The hot tub is drained and cleaned after each group leaves. As a result, the tub is seasonal.

My husband and I took the family to Salida for a Christmas ski trip. The house was perfect for our needs. We felt secluded while being close to town. The kitchen had everything for cooking meals. Tony was very accommodating and easy to contact.
Super host
Tony was the nicest host we've ever met! He made sure that all the things (like soaps, shampoo, plenty of towels, etc.) that we needed for our stay were available, and the kitchen was surprisingly well-stocked, too! The beds were super comfortable, the house and property were fun to explore, and the view from the master bedroom was jaw-dropping! It was so neat to see the stars at night and wake up to beautiful sunrises. If we ever have another opportunity to visit Salida, we will definitely reserve Tony's home again. Loved it!
Loved spending time in this beautiful house with the beautiful views. And the stars are amazing there!
Four generations of our family enjoyed this well appointed mountain home for a long weekend wedding. The rooms were all clean and very comfortable and the children loved exploring the grounds. Our host was welcoming and available and we are already talking about our return next summer!
Our whole family spent the weekend in this beautiful country home. We got everything we were looking for...5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, brought our dogs and put them in the fenced in yard, hot tub and fully functional kitchen, and country charm with a mother doe with twins. Very quiet and peaceful location. Our host Tony was a very nice gentleman who checked in, was available but let us have our space. We were all very pleased with our stay and would highly recommend it. The master bedroom was huge with windows facing straight out from the bed overlooking the mountains. We have made new memories. Forgot to mention that the river is 1 block away and our kids caught 11 fish from the pond. Yummy! This area has a walking/bike path, is about 20-30 minutes from the hot springs (which were incredible) at mt. Princeton. There are some lakes also that you can take the kids swimming in or hire a guide to take you rafting. So much to do in Salida. Cool mid-size town. Anyway, thanks to Tony for allowing us to stay in his wonderful house and make our new memories.
Our family had an excellent stay at Tony’s property. There was plenty of space, a well stocked kitchen, and many sitting areas to enjoy the outdoors. It is walking distance to the river and town. Tony was a very responsive and accommodating host. He went above and beyond to make our stay memorable.
Tony’s home was so much better than expected! It had ample room for our 9 person group (6 adults and 3 kids). It was fully equipped and completely ready for us when we arrived. Be prepared to argue over who gets the primary bed and bath — they are huge and well-appointed. Salida is a sweet town with good choices for meals, shopping and sightseeing. Thanks again, Tony for sharing your amazing home.
The house was perfect for our needs and comfortably fit our group of 9. The layout is a little funky, but there was plenty of space to spread out. The kitchen had everything you could think of needing to cook meals for a big group, grills outside, etc. One note, the master bedroom with its fab floor to ceiling windows was wonderful, but there are no blinds and no door to the bathroom area, so heads up to the sheepish!! Tony, the owner, was so incredibly nice-giving us a tour on the first day, brought us mountain bikes to borrow, and suggesting fly fishing spots and hikes for us throughout the week complete with showing us maps, etc. Tony was around and available most days to help with anything and everything!
Good space. Larger than the pictures show.
This property worked well for us. Exactly as was described.
We had the best time! Tony, the property owner, was amazing, if I could give 6 stars I would ? Overall, the house is quirky. In a good way? The kitchen is on the smaller side but, Tony has everything in there that you could possibly need! We were able to comfortably cook a Thanksgiving dinner for 7!! It was great! When we came in the dining room table was set for 7 with beautifully folded napkins that looked like trees? A very nice touch! The house has 5 bedrooms- 4 upstairs and 1 downstairs which has its own bathroom and workout room. Our adult daughter really enjoyed having her own space! The master bedroom and bathroom are stunning! There are floor to ceiling windows which look out onto spectacular views of the mountains! The bathroom has a jacuzzi tub??. The only drawback is that there are no blinds on the windows. I thought it might be a problem in the morning with the sun blaring in but actually the light was diffused because of the angle of the room ? However, it was hot in the afternoon. For us that wasn’t a problem! Tony also welcomed our dogs Ellie and Odinn! They enjoyed the deck and the fenced in rock garden ?? We all had the best time and will definitely be back! Thank you, Tony♥️
Great stay, really nice home in an excellent location. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a peaceful place close to town.
Property was in great location and views were beautiful. Plenty of room for everyone.
It’s in a beautiful rural location a short distance from downtown and close to Arkansas river
Nice place to stay with great mountain views!
We really enjoyed our stay at the property! The house was very nice and spacious, and the owner was highly accommodating and helpful.
It was a nice stay. The only complaint is no window shades and the basement had an order to it. But even with that we said we would stay there again.
We stayed in this home for the week of our daughter’s wedding in Salida and it was a great place to use as our home base as we prepared for the big day. Our host, Tony, was extremely kind and hospitable and went the extra mile to make sure we enjoyed our stay. The deck and hot tub provided some great relaxation spots, the views from the master bedroom were beautiful and the location was very conveniently located for all the activities there are to enjoy in the area which for us included horseback riding, tubing, hot springs, St. Elmo ghost town, and lots of time in downtown Salida. We would love to visit again!
Easy rental and check in. Tony was very accommodating and gave a quick response when needed. Thankfully, we didn’t have to bother him too much. Couldn’t have been a better location for what we needed.
What can I say, Tony and the property are the best. From the beginning of our stay to the last minute was very relaxing, there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy while soaking in the hot tub.
We stayed in mid June to attend FibArk in Salida. There is no air conditioning but lots of fans and the open windows provided a nice breeze. The property manager, Mr. Martinez was wonderful and had great communication with us. We had 3 couples in our group for the weekend and we enjoyed our stay very much!
