palafrugell, Catalonia
The Good News - Although booked for most of June, July and August, Can Ralet is still free up to June 8th, from June 22nd to July 5th, from August 3rd to August 10th and from September 7th onwards.
Theoff-season periods offer a lot - the beaches are often emptier, but the sea is just as warm. Down near the beaches the bars and restaurants are all going strong, but you should be able to park more easily and the waiters (and waitresses!) are not so stressed.
And however busy the villages are, our regular guests know that they can always find peace and quiet - and greenery - and space - here, only minutes away from the beach.
So if you're looking for somewhere that provides easy access to some of the Costa Brava's loveliest coastline and its friendliest small resorts, Can Ralet is the answer. If you want to be near some of the best restaurants in Spain, Can Ralet is an ideal centre. Not to mention our 'Ruta de Vino' that takes you to some of the area's best wineries. (Let us know in advance and we can make a booking for you to visit a bodega.) Neighbouring Palafrugell has the most impressive wine mercant in Spain, with bottles from €1.50 to €20,000!
And if you want to sleep peacefully, away from the noise and bustle, Can Ralet is quiet and peaceful. Open fields, a 'self-help' vegetable garden and the scents of eucalyptus and jasmine. And if you're a bird-watcher, this year we have welcomed Golden Orioles and a Kestrel (not very popular with our chickens!).
Can Ralet consists of two bedrooms (one double bedroom, one twin bedroom), a kitchen diner, a cozy sitting room with a library, TV, and a selection of CD's and even vinyl! There's a spacious bathroom and French windows lead to the ‘Italian’ garden giving on to extensive lawns and overlooking the house’s vegetable garden. The kitchen/diner gives on to a charming covered floral terrace featuring a large dining table and sitting area. A Norwegian guest said recently that he's coming back next year simply to relax and read.
Parking is on the lawn less than 5 yards from the terrace. Both Llafranc and Tamariu offer (in addition to their charming beaches), numerous restaurants, hotels and cafés. There is also a restaurant and bar in the (rather Ritzy) hotel at the San Sebastian lighthouse, as well as a very fashionable Japanese restaurant and a relaxed bar in what used to be the lighthouse-keeper's house. On Cala Pedrosa there is an informal beach bar offering drinks and excellent light meals during the summer months. Do let us know in advance if you'd like us to make a restaurant reservation or recommendation.
Oh, and by the way. We've a sturdy bicycle for those who want to 'pop' down to the local shop for a loaf, a croissant or a bottle of wine. It's uphill on the way back, though!
For us as a family with 3 kids its great to have space for kids to play in the garden during the hot days. The hosts are very kind and open to help on all issues and to answer all questions. Many thanks!
We had wonderful holidays here. The hosts were always helping whenever needed, very kind and friendly. The flat is good, tastefully refurbished with some antiques. The children loved to play in the garden and the spacious shady terrace is a perfect choise to have a lunch at a hot summer day.
My wife, two daughters and I had a fantastic stay at this house in the beginning of August. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by Tony and Theresa and their family, and had a very warm and pleasant contact with them the entire week. So we really felt at home and on a splendid vacation at the same time. The house itself is decorated in a warm and artistic style. The huge garden, with several types of plants is a really oasis, so there is always a nice place in the shade or sun, whatever you like. From there it is a 15 minute walk to two nearby beaches. The location is an ideal starting point to do several trips in the surroundings in this beautiful and not overcrowded area. And it's very good to realise that after your daytrip, there is this fine quiet paradise waiting for you! Tony and Therasa, thank you again!
This was our third stay in Can Ralet and hopefully not our last. We have never returned to a holiday home before Can Ralet! We love our visits as a real tonic from our busy lives. Staying in a very comfortable, spacious, peaceful and rustic house and surroundings with lots to see in a car but also beautiful coves within 20 mins or so stroll from the house. The local town has a great market selling everything you could possibly want to eat or wear! Not to mention seeing Tony and Teresa again who are very lovely hosts. Sarah and Jane
Nice vintage appartment in an old beautiful big farmhouse with very nice garden. Quiet, and you can hear the birds singing. Two bedrooms. One for our son and daughter with two single beds and one with a double bed. They put in a larger double bed for me because I am 192 cm and the original bed was a bit to short. The hosts are very friendly, and gave us lot of information about the area. We have been travelling a lot, and lived in private homes. ( Home away and a b n b) Short distance to different beaches, and villages around. Many good restaurants. Anyway we recommend to have a car. This place I will give my best score. Hope to come back.
Take care! The apartment is in the basement and there is an other apartment above. Two simple louvre doors / stairs separate them. They rent that one out as well. They are not clear about that as they put each one on different websites. Hearing people talking and walking above your head is no fun. It spoiled the holiday.
We stayed in this rural house in September and were delighted with it. Rustic settings, lots of space and character, authentic and lived-in feel to the house (but clean and all in working order), beautiful bedroom and French doors into the garden - elegant sunny terraces, and to top it up - genuine hospitality and helpfulness of hosts nearby melted our hearts. We felt welcomed and well looked after. The location is truly amazing too. We will be back.
Rather surprised to read the previous review. We stayed at Can Ralet in September and yes, it is an old farm house, doors and beds normal sizes for the period. The hosts were charming and friendly and the grounds &local area secluded and very relaxing. We have a wonderful week and would certainly consider returning.
Definitely a hidden gem. My wife and I had a lovely time. Very welcoming hosts and an ideal location. We were blessed by great weather so the proximity to many excellent and secluded sandy beaches was a bonus in October.
Nice location, very sucluded. But, being 1,92m, this porperty was not for me. Some doors were very low (1,75m?). Double bed also more for smaller people. Kitchen was old, not clean with a bad odour. Toilet did not flush properly - I won't go into details! Although we had paid in adance for the whole week, we left after one night.
