Only a hundred miles from DC, it’s the ideal vacation destination for families, weekend getaway for friends, or romantic rendezvous for couples. Firefly Farmhouse is the perfect place to get away from it all, whether you want to curl up with a good book or lose yourself in nature. It also serves as the optimal adventure hub: Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park (the best views and hikes are between the Thornton Gap entrance and the Swift Run entrance to the south) and the Appalachian Trail, Luray Caverns (the most visited in the U.S. for good reason), the Shenandoah River (within walking distance), George Washington National Forest (minutes to Massanutten Mountain and the Storybook Trail), and downtown Luray (a charming historic district), and just a half hour to Massanutten Resort (winter ski slopes and summer water park). After a day of adventuring – or relaxing – gather outdoors for dinner by the fire pit, relax in the hot tub, and then dry off by the indoor fireplace.
The space
A welcoming, open floor plan makes for lovely gatherings with groups up to 8, but also includes nooks where you can find quiet moments to yourself. A large wraparound porch leads into a comfortable living room with sofas you can sink into, a wood-burning fireplace and a huge, fully equipped kitchen where you can try new recipes and dine together. The living room has a Roku TV and wifi. (A note: the secluded nature of the farmhouse means using satellite internet, so cozy screentime is possible, but binge-watching is not, unless you want to take advantage of the DVD library or download before you come.) You can also escape to a smaller den, which has a sofa and a Roku TV, as well as a bar-height table, perfect for game nights and conversation.
Three bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths accommodates groups of adults or families with children. The master bedroom on the first floor features a king bed, nursery with twin bed, and ensuite bath (with shower). Upstairs you’ll find two private bedrooms: one with a queen bed and one with a queen bed and twin bunkbeds, with a shared bath next door (also with a shower). Ten people can sleep comfortably (one king bed, two queen beds, three twin beds, and an air mattress).

We had 4 adults and 3 kids (all under 8) stay for 2 nights. We enjoyed every amenity; hot tub, real wood campfire, propane fire pit, propane grill, flattop grill, ping pong, big yard, super comfy couches for TV watching, game table (house had a bunch of games there), and a massive open concept kitchen to cook and eat at! The check in process and instructions on how to best use the house/amenities provided by owner was so easy and spot on! We will be back again for sure…for a little bit longer of a stay!
Great time with my adult family! Enjoyed caverns and wineries and house!
My family wanted to get away for a few days. We found this property and glad we did. The house had everything needed to make our stay comfortable. The property owners were responsive in our communication with them. There were few days that were very hot outside, but we were able to use that time to explore the surrounding area and find things to do. The area has many things to do for families. We would definitely recommend this property to our friends.

Stayed at this property for my daughter’s graduation from JMU and although a little bit of a ride to campus, we loved returning and relaxing in the hot tub, grilling and playing games!
We rented this property to get away from the city for a few nights with our kids and dogs. The house was fantastic- it’s a beautiful old farmhouse that’s been nicely updated and is well-appointed. The kids enjoyed the game room, and the dogs loved the yard. The location was great- the house is very close to Luray caverns as well as grocery stores, restaurants etc. The location was quiet and peaceful, and the owners obviously put great care into setting up and maintaining the house for guests. The house was very clean and comfortable, and we loved that it was so pet friendly. We would definitely stay here again!
