Falmouth, Kentucky
The Catawba farm is located at the actual site of the former town of Catawba. The town of Catawba in the late 1800’s had a blacksmith shop, general store, school, church, train station and pop. ~110. You will feel the history as you explore the 99 acre farm taking in the beautiful scenery or relaxing at the beautifully renovated farmhouse. The farm has 1.5 miles of Licking River waterfront w/nice river access and stocked 1
acre fishing pond.
The farmhouse boasts custom Kentucky field stone work and barnwood detail throughout. Much of the materials used on the renovation came off or out of buildings and barns around the farm. The farmhouse has two primary bedrooms w/queen beds. Both primary bedrooms have their own private walkout. The third bedroom has two sets bunk beds w/ full size beds on bottom and twin on top. Beautifully updated kitchen. Oversized deck with gazebo and fire pit outback offer an exceptional experience. Spacious front porch with seating. Very cool to watch the trains pass by. We have just completed the new pond by the house and don’t forget to say high to Jackie our rescue donkey, Big T the bull, Ramuel our Icelandic Ram and our two baby Tennessee Fainting Goats. They are located in the “Old Barn” (red, white and blue barn). Jackie loves apples and other fruits and vegetables, Big T loves to be fed hay and Ramuel will come to you if you yell sheep sheep. He loves bread.
Guests can explore the farm including the 2 acre stocked pond, the Licking River access, or explore the farms wildlife and scenic acres.
Keep in mind this is an operating farm and you may see farmers and workers come and go time to time.
If the river conditions allow for it we offer canoe trips or river raft rides without leaving the valley. Farmer Rob the neighbor who owns Gravett Farms can come pick you up. He will guide you to and help you in at a river access point on his property and your trip will finish up at our Licking River access. Approximately 2.5 mile trip
We enjoyed , the firepit ,farm animals, The house ...ok everything about our stay ! Thanks
It was very good
We enjoyed our stay during our visit to the Ark and Creation Museum. The farmhouse was perfect and had everything we needed. It is full of charm on the inside and out. The host have done a great job!
Loved feeding and enjoying the animals. House was in the “country” so a little off the beaten path. Beautiful countryside, and home was as advertised. A little rustic, and would have liked a bit more in the bathroom - clothes hooks and more towel hanging space. Jackie, Big T and Ramuel were our favorites! Totally delightful!
My husband and I stayed at this property with three of our grandchildren on a recent visit to the Ark Encounter. On the way to the property, our car broke down, and I believe every person in the small town stopped to help. Officer Schmeing, who is also a mechanic, saved the day! The grandkids were super excited to find a swing in the backyard and games to play in the kitchen. They loved feeding the animals, which vied for attention with moo’s, baa’s, and heehaws, much to the delight of the kids. The river was a short walk through the field and the kids enjoyed finding large shells. There was so much to do on the property, the kids wore themselves out and slept well. The house was very clean and artfully decorated. The beds were very, very comfortable. There is a train track nearby, by the sound wasn’t loud enough to disturb anyone; it just provided another cool aspect for the grandkids. The owners were thoughtful and left a tray of snacks. I would definitely stay at this property again!
We had the best time. From sitting under the stars by the fire pit to listening to the tranquil sounds of the trains. My grandson loved the animals at the barn. We walked the trail around the farm. The house was so inviting. We had everything needed for a quiet vacation. Thanks for your hospitality and lovely home. Kaffie from Mississippi.
Well maintained property. Nicely decorated, well equip. Beautiful peaceful setting. Can easily accommodate a family with pets and or children. Just know that Catawba road will require caution driving.
Well designed and laid out , everything you may need is there for great time Sister in-law love the animals in the barn ie Donkey, ram, goats and bull 1.5 trail was well laid out and easy to follow as well as fun Host was very responsive and it also has Great internet Wife was impressed with the cleanliness and deco was cute. Enjoyed the fire pit and swing Setting on back porch was very peaceful When we return to this area this first choice. Just make sure any food items you want to buy before going to house. It’s a ways out and don’t want to return to town unless necessary. We loved it.
Amazing! The location is perfect for those who want something a little bit more country but not so far away that you can't run 20 minutes up the road to run to the store ( which where we are from is close!). Plenty of privacy and backyard for the kids to play in. Ours particularly loved the swing! There is an active train track that runs along the property but the owners have earplugs stashed everywhere if the noise bothers you while sleeping. Well stocked kitchen, outdoor grill and seating, and comfortable beds. Our family enjoyed staying here immensely and would definitely stay here again!
This place is a nice peaceful escape. Lovely fire pit, pond and outdoor sitting areas.
We really enjoyed being away from everything and relaxing by the fire pit. We will visit again for sure!
We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The owners have done a wonderful job on the property. The lids enjoyed swimming in the pond and fishing in the other pond. We also had several visits to Jack the Donkey. Kids also love the train coming by. We highly recommend this property!
Wonderfully peaceful stay. Not the far from The Ark Encounter. Very clean home and nicely decorated. Host responded very quickly to all questions.
We were traveling with our four children ranging in age from 7-21, and my parents, on a family trip from home in the UP of Michigan, to Nashville, Gatlinburg and finally to the Ark Encounter on the way back home. This was our third VRBO home of the trip, and was by far our favorite! Mind you, we live on a farm, so country life is not foreign to us, but this home is just so relaxing and beautiful. It comfortably slept all 8 of us, the beds were comfy and clean, and even though the home is small, there was plenty of room for all of us. We enjoyed swimming in the pond, visits with Jack the donkey, watching the train go by, bonfires in the evening.... we had everything we needed! We went to The Ark Encounter one whole day (highly recommend), and hung out at the house the next day. The front porch is great for coffee in the morning, and the back deck for grilling at night. Book this home, you won't regret it!
Good
This was a wonderful home base in between visits to the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter. The farm, fishing ponds, fire pit, and trains took us back to a time so often overlooked in today’s world. It was truly a delight to stay here - the escape from the hustle&bustle allowed us to soak up time with friends&family and to reflect on all the necessities that rural livelihoods provide. We created memories that will last a lifetime- my oldest caught (& released) his first fish, my youngest boys LOVED the trains, and we cooked a tasty stew with local beef delivered by Farmer Rob himself from Gravett’s Angus. Thank you for a lovely week!
The Catawba Farmhouse was a lovely relaxing stay! The property is enjoyable and even though the weather wasn't great while we were there, we did get some sunshine to enjoy walking to the pond and the river and had a blast at the firepit roasting hotdogs and marshmallows! The home was very clean and expertly decorated. Beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of towels. There were a few items that we felt we needed in the kitchen - a colander & a toaster - but not a huge deal. It was cold and so we also made use of the woodstove and there was plenty of wood provided. Our 2 Goldendoodles had PLENTY of room to run and play and enjoyed themselves immensely! Overall, it was a very peaceful stay although the first time a train went by in the middle of the night, it caught us off guard ;). Thank you for sharing your sweet farmhouse with us! You can definitely tell you put your heart and soul into it!
