Background, General Information and Weather in Prosper, Texas
Prosper is located in two counties, Collin and Denton in the state of Texas. Prosper is located within the Dallas – Fort Worth – Metro Area. Prosper was incorporated all the way back in 1914 when the town population was just 500. At the time a man by the name of U.N. Clary was the Mayor and served in that position for almost half a century! At the time of the 2010 census the population here was just under 10,000 coming in at 9,423 residents. In just a few short years the population shot up to 14,416 which is a substantial increase in only four years. When the most recent non census poll was taken in 2018 it showed that the current population here was almost 24,000! So this area of Texas has experienced tremendous growth in terms of population in a very short period of time. One of the main reasons for the growth is the incredible real estate found here. The homes in Prosper are very large and attract a wide range of potential homebuyers. “D Magazine,” which is a monthly magazine for the people in the Dallas – Fort Worth area named Prosper as the 5th Best Suburb in the Dallas Metro Area back in 2010. This is a big deal seeing as though the Dallas – Fort Worth Area is so large and has many suburbs. According to the United States Census Bureau, Prosper has is a total of 22.8 square miles with just 0.02 square miles of that being water. When it comes to the weather here in Prosper it falls under the category of “Humid Subtropical.” This means that the summers will be long, hot and often times muggy. The winters on the other hand will be somewhat short but cold and windy. The cold season here lasts for exactly three months. From November 25th until February 25th the daily average high is just about 63 degrees. The low for this time is above the freezing mark coming in at 35 degrees. Prosper experiences average rain fall with just about 40 inches per year. Even though Prosper rarely falls below the freezing point there have been times during the winter months when temperatures have fallen to about 23 degrees. Despite that, this portion of Texas will only receive one inch of snow per year. During the summer months there have been times when the thermometer has spiked to a very hot 101 degrees. This tends to happen most times in July and August.
