Mount Juliet can be found in Western Wilson County. This suburb of Nashville is roughly 17 miles East of Downtown Nashville. Mount Juliet is located between Interstate 40 and U.S. Route 70. These roads are both major East-West Routes. The population here at the time of the 2010 census was 23,671. In 2016 there was a non census poll taken that showed that the population here had increased by 10,000 to 33,263 residents. Mount Juliet is the largest city in all of Wilson County and was incorporated as a city back in 1972. There are two conflicting stories as to how Mount Juliet got its name. The first is that it is named after Julia Gleaves who was a woman that was known for taking care of those in need within the community some time ago. There is a more well known story that it is named after the Mount Juliet Estate which is a manor house in County Kilkenny, Ireland. Both stories are interesting and offer up residents a great story to share with others when talking about the town. According to the United States Census Bureau, Mount Juliet is a total of 16.6 square miles in size with a very tiny portion of that being water. The official city slogan for Mount Juliet is “The City Between The Lakes.” This is referring to the city’s close proximity to Old Hickory Lake located on the Cumberland River which is to the North and the Percy Priest Lake which is on the Stones River to the South. Although it does tend to get pretty chilly during the winter months you will not see a lot of snow here.
