Goodyear is located in Maricopa County, Arizona and has an estimated population of roughly 78,000. This suburb of Phoenix was the third fastest growing city in Arizona between the year 1990 and the beginning of the millennium. According to the United States Census Bureau, Goodyear is a little more than 191 square miles in size. Back in 1917 Goodyear was established when the “Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company” purchased 16,000 acres of land here. They acquired the land in order to cultivate cotton for vehicle tire cords. Then on November 19th, 1946 Goodyear became a town. There was not a whole lot here besides a few hundred homes and apartments as well as things like a grocery store, barber and beauty shop and a small gas station. So, back in the late 40’s, Goodyear was truly a small town but was continuing to develop and grow as time went on. When it comes to the climate here it is categorized as a subtropical desert climate. Here in Goodyear you can expect it to be hot for most of the year with very short, cool winters. The hottest portion of the year here is from the end of May until mid-September when the daily average high is just under 100 degrees. The low for this time is just around 80 degrees. So it does get a bit hot here but the climate here in Arizona is very dry so there is not much humidity in the air which can often lead to the actual temperature feeling much hotter than it really is. The cool season here goes from the end of November until the end of February when the daily average high is just about 73 degrees. The low for this time is a cool 42 degrees. The weather here rarely goes below freezing during the winter, but it can go above 110 during the summer months. Snow is a very rare occurrence here, but it has snowed on a few random occasions here during the winter months. What is wonderful about Goodyear is that this area gets more than 300 sunny days a year which is great if you like to do outdoor activities.
Here in Goodyear there is something special for baseball fans. The Goodyear Ballpark is a baseball complex that is the spring training home of both the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians. The stadium is owned by the city of Goodyear and has a capacity of about 10,300. This stadium is a major attraction for many here in Goodyear and also hosts various events throughout the year here such as seasonal festivals and a Fourth of July extravaganza.
Education in Goodyear
Here in Goodyear there are several school districts that encompass several schools within them. There is the Avondale Elementary School District, Liberty Elementary School District, Litchfield Elementary School District as well as the Mobile Elementary School District.
